I use a 1515 3d on 6 & 8s and love it!.. no heat issues at all, pulls for days.. Jnev is selling a 1515 1.5y now for a good price you might want to pm him.. just a thought..
|
What is the kv rating on a 1515 1.5y?
|
Shaun- jnev is selling a 1515 1.5D
|
1515/1D = 4100kv
1515/1.5D = 2700kv 1515/1Y = 2200kv 1515/2D = 2050kv 1515/2.5D = 1650kv 1515/1.5Y = 1500kv |
so would a 1515 1.5d have more torque and be able to handlie higher gearing than say a 1515 1y. Because of the lower kv rating or is my thinking wrong. I know kv rating is how many rpm per volt and that you want to keep the rpms around 35000. So basically a 1515 1.5y on 6s would be 33000 rpm and 1515 1y is 48400 rpm. Which is better more rpm with lower gearing or less rpm with higher gearing or does it all equal out in the end anyway.
|
1st question, answer = they produce the same level of torque as such, though torque is a product of power in terms of wattage, or something confusing like that- lower kv motors tend to produce more torque than high kv ones at any rate.
I wouldnt choose the 2700kv option for 4s lipo, ever, its just too much of an amp hog and limits you to 4s lipo permanently. 2nd question is more tricky, as either route can be made to work well, and there are two schools of thought as such. I personally favour the lower kv with higher voltage option, gearing is moot really as with a higher kv and lower voltage it will be roughly the same give or take a tooth. The fun starts when you get into debating what the perfect kv and voltage is; in principle the 2200kv on 4s is perfect, but many will say that motor (1515 1y) doesnt 'come alive' until you feed it 5s lipo, though 6s would still be too much for liking, speed runs only. All depends on your voltage really, I would say the best alround motor for bashing/racing/ speedy stuff would be the much overlooked 1515 2D; still fun on 4s with slightly taller gearing, perfect for 5s, and plenty fast on 6s. 1515 2.5d is an excellent 6s motor for long runtimes and cool temps, and will tolerate taller gearing as such due to lower current draw, but good batts are essential with any of the above options in order to get the most out of the setup. Im loving the 1518 1800kv motor castle will be bringing out soon, I really want one of those things baddly for my 5s setup. |
What is the kv rating going to be on the new 1518 motors or are they going to have different set ups ? I saw they were looking for beta testers awhile ago too bad I wasnt ready for that yet. Maybe in the next couple of month while im selling things and aquiring parts there will be a new hot set up too get as always Id like to be on the cutting edge.
|
1518 = 1800kv, ideal for 5s and 6s use, and wont be a slouch on 4s either really (my 9XL (1900kv) did very well on 4s lipo, sensible power for racing I'd say).
Thats the thing though, the speed BL is moving at the moment nothing will stay top-dog or cutting edge for all that long, but budget vs performance is my main concern- $150 for a Neu quality motor is a bargain. |
Yea that what I am saying I probably wait till the end to buy my ecm engine combo. Right now the mmm combo seems like the best bang for the buck @ ~$255 shiped. call me picky but I just dont like green lol.
|
Me neither actually- I have some oven cleaner & masking tape that can fix that though...
|
River get the RCM heatsink and you'll never notice the green
BTW - After driving this beast again today I will NEVER be going back to nitro :mdr: |

need more pics.. UPDATE :::POKE:::
|
After finally getting the chance to buy 2 3s 5000mah 30c batts that are constantly out of stock and saving some money too possibly finish this build. I need to figure out a few things. I was also waiting for the slipperential to come out for this truck but I really dont see it happening. So I am going to use the g-maxx single speed conversion with a hardened idler gear. I also am going to use a strobe slipper with a 51 mod 1 tooth spur gear. I am going to get a castle creations monster mamba max combo with the 2200 kv motor on 6s. Can anybody experienced with this setup recomend 3 good combination of pinion gears to go with ? I am planning to use ultra deans connectors anyone have an alternative better plug they like better and why. With the heat we have been having lately I hopefully will have more time inside to finish this build. Sorrry about all the pics I will post new ones as the build moves on.
|
I like my 5.5mm gold bullet connectors, but there is a fairly recent thread with pros, cons and alternatives to every connector going- might be worth seeking it out.
On the gearing question, you can start off with fairly conservative, then work your way up until temps start to climb: 51/14 = 42mph 51/16 = 48mph 51/18 = 54mph My only concern would be that a small spur gear may not mate up with certain small-ish pinions, but instead the motor will hit the tranny before they can mesh/ mate up properly. Cant really answer that myself as I have a smaller diameter motor (36mm vs 39mm for the smooth can neus) and 32p gearing.. |
If I remember right george16(lito) was running ~20 tooth pinion on his but not sure on how many volts. Thanks for the help neil I just finished catching up on your build. I also read jo freaks build and he had mike make him a center cd mount for his g3. I might want to go that route.
|
River, I'm using a 51/20T Strobe spur/pinion combo on 6S.
|
Thanks lito for the 411. Its been over 6 months since I started this build, I need to remember some things I had learned from before.
|
Have you guys seen the overevos top speed revo with a 2650 kv motor and 6s hes going over 90MPH. Thats very impressive!

link please!

No way man, nu-uh... my muggy would blow that chunk away, anyting going over 75 on dyed phaltlines would wreck so fast if jze didn't hook it up. Lame PLUS gay and lame too with a side a Canadian I bet
|
Hes got video of gps and radar at the same time plus he has broke several nitro speed records also so his reputation is pretty good. Hes gots some secrets he is not giving up maybe its somthing he did with the tires to make them stay on the bead. Lets see some vids of that muggy goin 75 mph got a link ?
I am not defending him but hes got real proof thats hard to down play not too mention hes got tons of experience with nitro high speed runs also. Hes all over youtube. |

He just point blank revealed all the secrets because of all the IMO jealous doubters. On TRX

Shoot its all about the tires.

I got my new revo mmm combo today. I wanted a black can and cc dont offer it to the public so I got one of the bay. It came with a mount that fits the g-maxx chassis perfect its like it was made for it.With one extra set of holes to use also , I can move it towards the center. Sorry for the dark pic:
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...x/CIMG2467.jpg I am just waiting for some parts I bought from rcm so I can mock it up for the final assembly. |
Hmm, suddenly I feel the urge to get one of those mounts- gotta look better than zipties..
EDIT: just found that modelsport.co.uk had some instock, so I bought one- ~£3 including postage :yipi: Thankyou Rivermaxx for reminding me about those :mdr: |
You can get them for ~$5 on the bay and its like its made for the g-maxx chassis. The funny thing is the gmaxx chassis were out of production after these were being made. Kinda reminds me of a turbined powered car hehe.

Interesting for sure...
I looked on ebay for one of the mounts, found only one seller, and it was ~$3 which is good, but another ~£7 for shipping, so a UK based retailer was my best solution. Its a very clean design, and Neil likes clean  |
I bought 3 of those from buytraxxas.com for $12 shipped. They even included some banners for our track for free advertisement.
|
After searching and not finding what I want can somebody lead me to a link for the single speed input shaft pin mod. I have seen it before but cant find it. I know lito has done it and neil also did you guys post a how too thread on this?
|
I paid TDC57 to do it for me, lol.
Here you go: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11589 |
Ok guys I pretty much finsh just need to do a little fine tunning. I just drove my first ever brushless setup today playing around taking it easy (yea right) and all I have to say is this thing is a beast hence the name Silverback. OMG! it has so much power it literally blew one of the foam tires off the rim (I need to glue them on some plastic wheels)This is on 2 3s 5000mah 30c zippy lipos in series. Pics coming when I find my camera.
|
Yeah on 6s you will need plenty of tire glue:yes::mdr:
|
Yea I think 14mm hex wheels are a bad idea also, I just striped one out. So now on to my 3rd set if wheel and tires lol. I put some 23 mm 1/2 offset wheels with proline standard mt bowties and took it out in the street. I pulled the trigger a little too much and it jumped up in the air and did a complete flip over and back on its wheels OMG! ITS INSANE. I even have the punch reduced to 50%. I went on to drive it for another 15-20 minutes until the I guess lvc started to work. When the lvc kicked in id give throttle and the esc would just blink and move a little bit and stop and then move alittle and stop and so on is this correct? My absolute highest temps after driving around in the uncut grass were: motor ~151, batts ~90, and esc ~121 they were cooler on the street 119, 85, 105,respectively. Its geared 20 tooth pinion with 51 tooth spur with a 3906 g-maxx single speed tranny.
|
Temps looks great Beau. I'm glad you're liking your new brushless truck.
I can't wait to get back home so I can drive my trucks again. |
Sent you a pm lito. I owe it all to you lito turning me to the darkside. Thanks When do you get off the ship? I thought you brought some trucks with you. I am sure you son is keeping the rc's warm for you and hopefully you dont come home to a bunch of broken trucks lol. My son likes to drive them but he wont fix them,he leaves that to dad.
I got a question you guys; I have read not to let your lipos go below 3.2 volts, is this just with the lvc in the esc or is that when you are discharging them also with the charger also? The reason I ask is because my charger only lets me pick to discharge 3s to 3 volts per cell. Is this ok as long as it not a heavy load? |
