i really like it where it is i have room to mount it behind the battery but chose not to. it handles pretty good for as big as it is. it flies good and im pretty happy overall. i guess its just personal preference.

Here are some updates, i got my new roll cage installed, the medusa 36-80-2000kv, heatsink with fan mount and fan, i wrapped the front tires to stop ballooning (works great) so all im waiting for is my replacement mamba monster to come in and im ready to go. wow is it pretty:mdr:

Looking good! Any idea what that weighs with the roll cage and all? Body still fit over cage?
im at 13.5lbs with battery and motor. its a heavy tank, does anyone know the heaviest springs i can get for this thing without changing shocks, they are the muggy shocks and allow the chassis to bottom out so would like a firmer spring. but i was very happy with the roll cage from rollcage city, i paid 40 bucks shipped on ebay, they sent it fast, it mounts easily to the body posts clamp style, and really adds to the integrity of the frame. it would take a hard hit to make this cage come off and it hides completely under the body. cant wait to get the mamba back and yes the hood ordament is going back on:party:

The yellow LST2 springs work. I tried them on mine; mine being "only" 12lbs the yellows were a bit too stiff in the front but worked ok in the rear. Should work perfect on yours.
great thanks man
dude, thats a great looking muggy. love the clean build. post some vids if you get a chance.
i just added LST yellow springs, much firmer, definitely an improvement. and the yellow really helps the look.
still thinking of more shock absorption, definitely stiffer but i think its going to take thicker oil for me to be satisfied, any ideas it has 35wt in there now, any suggestions without giving up drivability, so im thinking 50wt perhaps

yea i think so as well, nothing to do but tinker till my esc comes back
I run the yellow springs and 45 wt. oil 50 would probably be better. It can jump 30ft and love it. I can jump the whole track off the big jump and all 1/10th guys just turd. I wear my RCM shirt and point them here. Surprised no ones called me out yet
where do u run in IL jay?
Cool another IL dude, Algonquin not to far... I was running at this place was up the 90 ontop of a hill. I had the website but fried my PC and its now a fresh puppy. He owns a golf driving range and put in a track, he rents slashes for people to use if they dont have. I live right by the 53/90 and the tracks 20 minute drive west and up a big hill. Also the guy from truerc.com lipos bought 2 warehouses and opened a carpet track and it going to open an indoor dirt track soon. They are both closed at the moment, guess he fudged up some zoning amunsment law thing. Should be some good winter fun though ! Call him up
sweet, would love to find a dirt indoor track this winter short of going to joiet/

well after my 40mph curb smash trashing my chassis, shock towers, and front bulkhead, also bent up my roll cage a bit but nothing that cant be fixed, also bent my motor mount but was also able to straiten that as well. one dumb mistake has aot of work in front of me. but on a better not was a great chance to buy the losi upgrade chassis. as i found it shipped on atomic for 74bucks. so its a start i really love this thing so it will get fixed, its just money is a problem at the moment so peice by peice it will eventually get fixed, no hurry till spring, im just glad i have another thing to drive in the meantime

spiderwire q's
how many times did you wrap the tires with the line? Did you just use CA to secure it? Were the tires also taped?
Thanks! |
the tires came pre glued so never got a chance to tape them, so i ran 3 winds in 4 spots, tied it and used ca glue to help hold it in place. they will stay in place and help ballooning very much so. but if u start spinning out and turning hard they will come off, but i went from pizza cutters back to a wide tire and can keep it strait full speed. also if the tires cant expand u can no longer due back flips from a stop. as the balloning really helps it flip around.

So its time for an update after the crash, after some bent tirerods, a broken bulkhead, shock towers and a pretty badly bent chassis that was just tweeked from its weakness before from just jumping. im about 90% back together, I got the losi hardened chassis which is musch less flexible than the stock flimsy chassis. I ordered lst shock towers but realized the body mount positions are wider than the muggy towers. i really like the stance better and it is way more stout than with the muggy towers. i think i may just keep them and modify my rollcage to fit, i just have to widen the mounting plates. im due for a new body anyhow and am thinking of just leaving it clear to show off my goodies! Just need a battery tray i ordered from mike and im ready for spring! ill post pics soon.
New pics!
Here are the new pics with the new hardened losi chassis and lst towers. i like the stance better but if i plan to use the cage it is going to sit too high, plus ill have to put a new set of holes in my body or get a new one as the width is different between the mount posts. not sure what to do i bought the towers on ebay for 6bucks shipped but ideally would like a set of alloy towers just like the muggy towers, i am going to search for some. but really all i need is a battery tray and im ready to go.

The losi Battery tray fits the Muggy quite well, I only had to drill one hole.
i ordered one from mike but i ordered the 45x168 with the shelf for the esc but for some dumb reason i was thinking my turnigy 5000's would fit in there but the tray was way to narrow. so i finally sent it back to mike and am ready for the right sized tray, so as soon as he gets it and i get my credit ill get the right one and all will be good, still thinking about those shock towers, it changes the stance so much!
What tray did you use before? I will probably use the Losi tray on mine, I like it in my 8ight-T.
This should fit with the label upwards: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s..._40C_Lipo_Pack |
It was an old custom zippy tray from mike that i purchased from another member, but when i sold my CRT i included it. mike makes great trays and I try to support him when i can.
Can you measure the ride height? (from the lowest point) Wonder if this will be able to replace my Savage Flux for crazy bashing.
its at 2.5in with the muggy shocks in the position it is in in the pics
I was reading about your muggy's weights & decided to weigh my LST.
It came in at 12lb 5oz = 5.58kgs ready to run with a 5S 4000mAh. Not bad considering my X1CRT tipped the scales at 5kgs = 11.02lbs ready to run with the same pack. |
It definitely has some weight to it but i carries it well. its amazing what those big tires absorb!
Is the center diff the same as the 8ight's?

There's about a 1/4" difference in height of the mounts. I was going to try to use my RCM 8T mount in my Muggy, but it wouldn't line up correctly with the other stock muggy mount. The bearing size on the muggy is larger than the 8T mount also.
Got my roller, some questions:
Should I run a plastic spur? What's the largest one that will fit without spacers on the RCM mount? What pinions will fit? How do I get rid of the stering slop? Will LST towers give me more clearance? Can InnovativeRC make me a bit wider chassis on one side? (it will be tight to fit the 6500 Hyperions flat since they're 70mm wide) Anyone got an email? Can't get a response from him. 1717 or 1520? (have a 1520 in my Savage now) |
Plastic spur will work, 46t is max on stock chassis, 48t if you go innovative chassis, but I would recommend a steel spur for durability on heavy rig.
New steering parts get rid of most slop, also use a turnbuckle in the center instead of the factory link. LST towers will only help with LST shocks AFAIK. I can find Innovative's e-mail when I get home. The 1520 should be plenty (running one in mine), and the 1717 may limit gearing options (big pinions required). |
+1 could not have said it better myself.
Managed to get the address?
Do you have a pic of your brace so I can try to make one please? Thanks.

even with a brace I still recommend a hardened chassis
