lol nice wound, im glad your getting it done

Time for more updates
Where to begin.. We can start with
Motor/Transmision/Roll bar - Well i have come to find the differences betweek the 2.5R chassis and 3.3 chassis. Tthe 2.5r will accomodate up to a 44t spur (what i have) with no clearance issues, the 3.3 is made for the 40t only. I had to raise the one side of my transmission with washers to get the spur to clear the chassis. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0004-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0002.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -The motor mount didnt need much work for going to the new chassis, two areas needed to be clearanced, nothing major. For more gearing adjustment and asthetics, i replaced the cap head scews that connect the motor mount to the chassis with countersunk units.. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0011-1.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -With the original setup the revo was very unbalanced, and had no on-power steering, hopefully with the weight of the battery and motor placed diagonally across from each other I will get more steering and front traction. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0027.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -The roll bar is just for lazy guys like me to pick up the truck, I had two that werent being used so I modified one to fit. It uses the stock holes but the outer mount must be clearanced so that it does not hit your pinion, I also cut down the roll bar to the highest line to fit lower profile bodies. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0013-1.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (other) -Battery tray is a cut down Team Novak tray, mounted using the original right side steering servo screws. Losi Differnential Mod First off I'd like to say that all mail carrying services are starting to annoy me.. The revo stub shafts that were do in today were not delivered. and the body that was supposed to be here tuesday came today... -where to begin... to complete this mod you will need four extra stub shafts... if not you need to make your own out of 6mm stock. These diffs went together smoothly. one came pre shimmed out of the package, the other did not. (i ended up picking up 2 stub shafts at the local hobby shop- that is all they had) The rear diff received the modded stub shafts.. and the front diff was dead in the water when the other shafts did not arrive in the mail.. So after spending an hour trying to find a suitable material- i found an old car hood prop that was 6mm OD.. after some creative cutting and drilling this is what I ended up with. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0017-1.jpg They install just like any dog bone cup would. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0018-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0019-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0020-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0021.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
14 hours of work later I ended up with a beast of a truck, the black chassis looks soo stealthy- it came out better then i expexted... Now i just have to paint my body...
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0024.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0025.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0031.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0032.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...o/PICT0033.jpg Well thats all (for now) folks. Im racing it tomorow and will report back. Edit Forgot to mention, got those traxxas red tubes for 5 bucks per pair, couldnt pass up that deal- they look great :) |
Sorry if I haven't read the whole thread, but are those Mike's diffs? Or from another truck? They are nice anyhow. Keep up the work, get er' done!
|
They are the diffs from a Team Losi Lst
|
Lookin' good B.B.16, not your hands the revo build. The LST diffs is a nice way to beef up the drive train cheap, good idear whom ever thought it up. Clever utilizing the hood prop shaft,I've used them myself on a prodject.
Good luck on race day and hope you whip some nitro ass. |

Well the truck runs great!, on the track surface it does not even lift the front wheels. handles a whole lot better and is more composed during the whoops and washboards.
I qualified 6th and placed 4th in the a-main! If i had a better tire i would have placed better.. After the race is was runnig the last of my two packs out and hit one of the doubles that had been torn up from racing, the odd face kicked the back end of the truck over the fron and the truck was like this / upside down... I had to land completely wide open throttle to save it- the plastic modded center drive shaft yolks did not like that one bit and failed.. so rc-monster steel here i come I finally get my first check from work today, should be over 300 bucks! I plan to order: Some Proline caliber vtr's and wheels, 17mm adapters, an e-revo transmission and other odds and ends. |
Update, LST diff mod-mod
Well in lieu of my failed center drive shaft couplers I had to come up with something stronger.. while rummaging through the spare parts and such i had- i found that the coupler to the standard LST center cvd looks very close to fitting with the tapered u-joint of the revo wheel drive shafts.... I had one of those "this just might work" moments...
The revo shafts had to be ground down slightly, easily done with a dremel- to fit inside the Lst coupler. once the fitting was done i squeezed the whole thing together in the vice so that it was a tight fit... then it was as easy as putting a pin through the entire assembly and setting it in CA-viola! Then you need to swap your modded u-joint over to the center axles and trim them about 3/16in to fit in the stock location. after about 2 hours of racing they are still holding up  http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0713092142.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0713092214.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0001-1.jpg |
More updates.
Went out today and purchased the following Revo Center diff P2 rocker arms Yellow Losi wing some various oils and lubes... new 40t mod1 spur gear 17t pinion After installing the center diff in the truck I have fallen in love with it... truck turns in soo much better (at least on asphalt), holds a line better and now i can enter corners how i would like (feint- blip brakes to loosen the rear and drift around)... P2 rocker arms have yet to be tested on anything put my driveway and yard so no info on them yet.. |
Its beautiful...
Got my wheels and tires in, they are great- it was almost like they were pre-balanced!.
Also got my losi wing installed- bask in the shiny-ness because after sunday it will never be the same:lol: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0005-2.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0007-2.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0008-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...PICT0006-2.jpg |

thanks ian. takin her to the track tommorow :) Mini-update. had a problem since i had the truck. off Every jump the truck would nose dive horribly, i went with heavier springs to compensate for the weight of the truck.. ajd now have 70w oil in the shocks with #3 variable dampening pistons.. now the truck is more stable on flat ground.... I was about to jump it when my battery packs hit cuttoff.. Was this a move in the right direction? |
Make SURE your battery is very securely strapped down! Before I went to the races a few weeks ago, I reinforced my battery mounting plate with a bar underneath to brace it when you land off jumps, because it just bends otherwise, badly. Also I put velcro tape (sticky on one side) on both the batteries and the plate, with a single velcro buckle strap to hold in on. The combination of the two makes for a very secure hold.
|
I already have 2 high strength velcro straps holdig it in, seems to work well
|
Well, don't say I didn't tell you so... you do a nose dive, or land just right to put maximum inertia on the battery, and it's gone.
|
I like the paint scheme! Very nicely done on your build
