I just hope it doesnt have to do with the ignition.

You may have flooded it and slightly fouled the plugs with oil. This happened to me on mine every now and then. Wait a while and try again. When mine would start back up it would smoke heavily through the exhaust burning off the oil for a minute or so. Rotaries work more like a two stroke and burn some oil anyway.
Worst scenario you may have fouled the plugs, but those are cheap. |

Just remember one plug can foul the whole deal. I had a bad trailing plug in my 89 GTU that gave me all sorts of hell. The big issue was the fact whoever had put it in cross threaded it and we could not get it out. The issue with the rotary being you cannot use a heliocoil(sp?) to re-thread a stripped plug hole. Unfortunately I was broke at the time and did not know rotaries that well and sold it for $750.00. OUCH! This was 1999 and the car was in good shape otherwise. It was a loaded GTU and I loved it!

Stick a screwdriver in the end of the spark plug wire and hold it away from a ground somewhere and see if it sparks that way. If its spark there you know the coils and wires are good so the plugs would be the problem.
If know spark there pull the wire off the coils and spin it over. The coil should ark to the negative terminal, or a ground somewhere on the coil so that way you can rule out the coils. You can also touch it and see it is shocks you. lol doesnt hurt that bad but you can definitely feel it. I wouldnt recommend this method though. Ive done it a few times though. If nothing from the coils it could be the coils, pick up, wiring, Lots of things. |
well the car runs again. replaced the ignition coils.
