Neil we are talking about mod1 gears not .8 or 32p gears. A 25 tooth mod 1 is bigger than a 27 tooth .8 or 32p. Bigger than 25 tooth mod 1 steel gear is almost non existant.

a 25t mod 1 gear is huge .
ok i got 4 ofna blue dot foams, losi eight e 43t spur plastic ( lighter than metal )
hpi 25t pinion gear, 6s 30c turnigy lipo, high down force wing. mamba monster 2650.
seem like a setup?

Rivermaxx 08.31.2009 11:44 AM

Looks good to me go for it.

nitrostarter 08.31.2009 01:45 PM

How big of gears do you guys want?

Go to sdp.si.com and go to "Buy Online". Click on the Metric Unit button. Then go down to the option for Gears. Then click on Spur Gears, next click on the suboption called "Metal". Then you should be able to adjust the search functions for 5mm bore and Mod1 specs and voila! Metal gears in Carbon steel, 2024 Aluminum alloy, 303 Stainless Steel. Teeth numbers available: 14,15,16,18,20,22,24,30,36,42,48,54,60,72,84,96.

i did 100+ this morning with 30C flightmaxx lipos, 34/25(mike's mod 1 is lighter than HPI, i have both) with green springs all around(you need it to be soft and low) with the 2650. on the mamba settings, 0% punch control, no reverse and everything else stock except i did use the hi-flow ofna wing...that made a big difference in control ability....after 5 passes the 2650 was 128 degrees, the esc was 90 and the batteries 91.

i was also using the losi rally tires. i think if anything stops you from getting 100 it would be wheel spin on the foams.

also, make sure your drive train isn't binding in any way and is very free spinning. that's why you'll need to sand like 1/8" of the face of the 43T to prevent binding the center diff and the motor mount.

i love this setup...i just bought another 2650 MMM combo an hour ago so i could build another.:yipi: thanks to OverrevO for the suggestions. bye bye to my 1.5D. it had too much torque for me.

I'll get video of it on my day off saturday.

Id be interested in the 30 and possibly the 36 but I am not sure what the "pressure angle degrees" means. It says only 20* is the only one availiable . Now looking at my spur it says 14.5* so I am not sure it will work with my spur gears.Anybody know if they are compatible? It also looks like they sell the same plastic gears up to 28 tooth that kershaw sells. sdpi sells them for less money also but I dont know what the shipping would be.

Rivermaxx 08.31.2009 03:48 PM

Hey dwight how much for the 1.5d? It might work good in my setup. did you do anything like tape the inside of the tires or are the stock.

emaxxnitro 08.31.2009 04:54 PM

on the foams. if they spin will they chip? i mean my street is pretty rough. should i go for a smooth street?

nitrostarter 08.31.2009 05:43 PM

http://shopswarf.orconhosting.net.nz/spur.html

Thats a description of the Pressure angle. It seems as though it really wont matter, but the 20* is becoming most prevalent.

Rivermaxx 08.31.2009 06:06 PM

With those foam tires you need to control the tire spin or you'll wear them out quick. Don't stab the throttle ease into it and try not to spin.

It specifically says the teeth that are meshing must have the same pressure angle, So those gears wont work with my set up or spur. The plastic ones will but I still don't think they are strong enough.

emaxxnitro 08.31.2009 07:02 PM

should i clean and lube my bearings?

nitrostarter 08.31.2009 07:09 PM

Definitely! Freshen up and clean everything. I would replace all bearings if capable. The least amount of rolling resistance as possible is the best!

Alas, I cannot read, for Im sure the info said Mod1, but then again, I was wrong; rare thing indeed....

Do like those Acer poster girls though, think RCM should sex up its image too a bit... :mdr:

Will the plastic 30 tooth work with brushless power since the aluminum gear is the wrong degree pressure angle ?

I ran the plastics for 1 to 1 ratio on a 10S truggy and had no problems with them. Ofcourse, your trigger finger might be more anxious than mine........

Rivermaxx 08.31.2009 11:04 PM

They wont work for me my gear specifically says 14.5* on it those are 20* pressure angle. So IDK??

DwightSchrute 08.31.2009 11:05 PM

i would buy them had i not broken 100 today. but geared 43/25 is a good ratio and about as much speed as i was ever looking for.

I don't know where you are getting pressure angle info from?? All I can tell you is that the 24t and 25t came from Mike and the gears mesh perfectly between them. I normally used a Revo 36t for a spur gear and it is the same mesh.

A mod1 is a mod1 is a mod1.........

emaxxnitro 08.31.2009 11:36 PM

great to hear that 43/25 is a good ratio as thats what i ordered

PBO 08.31.2009 11:42 PM

You guys suck!!

I was trying so hard to just enjoy some bashing with my new 8ight-T's but now I'm getting sucked back into speed runs again. I have the makings of a 100+mph Truggy that's going to get a run soon...waiting for my new 6S 6500 G3 to arrive, then it's 44/25, buggy diff, 1515 1.5d madness...

I'll be relying on the tyre/string method though. I have ballooning down to 0.1"...let's hope the string doesn't break!!!

A mod1 is a mod1 is a mod1.........

I assume those are the same gears are from sdp.si.com for about $8 each.Alsothe same ones KD uses and sells for ~$10. The only plastic or metal gears they sell are 20* pressure angle. Mod 1 has 3 different pressure angles and they are not supposed to be used with each other, At least thats what this link says. Not my info I am just relaying it. read it for yourself. http://shopswarf.orconhosting.net.nz/spur.html
" Three spur gear tooth forms are generally used with pressure angles of 14½, 20, and 25 degrees. The 14½ degree tooth form is being replaced and made obsolete by the 20 and 25 degree forms. Figure 1. illustrates these three pressure angles as applied to a gear rack with all teeth being the same depth.
The larger pressure angle makes teeth with a much larger base, which makes these teeth much stronger
and also allows the production of gears with fewer teeth. Any two gears in mesh with each other must be
of the same pressure angle.
When gear tooth measurements are to be made with gear tooth calipers, the chordal tooth thickness and
the chordal addendum must be calculated."
The revo is 14.5 * and your gears are 20* They may fit each other because the revo gear has smaller teeth but it isnt exactly right like it should be. So a mod 1 is not a mod1 is not a mod 1. Sorry but these are the facts.

Not trying to get anyone. I just want the facts just like everybody else here. Whats funny if you read the link they say they are going to phase out those 14.5* pressure angle and traxxas is still making them for the revo.So are they behind the times or what.

Yeah, no one is trying to one up anybody. I just have been wanting to use that pic, and it felt right:intello:

hehe...once you get bit by the speed bug, it's hard to stop. i got 2 buggies that'll do over 100 now. i'm done. i'll put it on my photobucket account as soon as i get my garmin back.

i can't even run it out in front of my house anymore....it's too fast, and too many idiot parents aren't watching their little kids and let run out in the middle of the street..:grrrrrr: the local high school is the only place i can really let it rip. that's why i'm glad i have an 8T. i can go out in my back field and rip it like an e-maxx with some mashers.

Interesting info!! I don't know what to say.......First, I don't know where you found the Revo spur info as I can not find it anywhere!! Second and most importantly I think, I don't think anyone here has ever had a problem mixing different brands of gears with each other. I say that because I am sure that different brands have different manufacturers producing gears and these discrepencies may exist between brands. So in short, I think you are looking into it too deeply. I can see this as a possible problem in a precision mechanism.....but a pinion/spur combo??? What I can say is there are bigger problems to worry about with a high speed car build than this! Good luck with the build!!

If you read the write up I posted ther are only 3 types of mod 1 gears 14.5* 20* and 25*. If one manufacturer makes a mod 1 20* gear it should match perfect to the other manufacturer 20 degrees mod 1 gear. 20 degrees is 20 degrees its a universal measurement I believe and there is no metric or foreign equivelent form of measurment for degrees .There should be no descrepencies between 2 20* mod 1 gears at all made by different manufacturers period. If there is, then one manufacturer is making them wrong. Yes it is just a spur and pinion the 2 peices that mesh together and all the power goes through. I may be looking into it too deep but thats just me I refuse to 1/2 ass something together and hope it works. If you still want to argue about the different pressure angles of gears dont look at me its not my rules. I am sure some dumb ass engineer with a phd thought of it just to screw with us and make things difficult . The biggest problem I had was tires and I now have that solved. My first goal is to break the current isc record of ~70 mph. Second goal is to break 100mph so well see.

Riv,

I think you overshot my comment. All I meant is that Traxxas may use 14.5*, Mike may use 20*, Kyosho may use 25* yet plenty of us have intermixed these with no real issues because the only factor we look for is matching pitch between gears. This is NOT a pssing contest!! You have the right to go about it how you please but I think everyone can agree with me.........The simpler you keep it, the more fun it stays!!! Good luck and hope to see you at 100+!! I already have the t-shirt....:yipi:

No pissing match here! I was just explaining myself after your comment. It really is simple especially if its done right. Congradulations on going over 100mph. May I ask what you didit with? I know for a fact that doing it with a ~10# monster truck is going to be a challenge. But hey! I like a challenge, anybody can make a on road car do a 100mph.

I went overkill with a 10S setup on a 8T......It was fun getting there, but when I did I was like now what?? I think alot of guys agree that it is more fun during the building and experimenting process than when everything is done and all you do is turn on the car and know what it is going to do! I think that is why I have lost interest in the hobby!!! Time to move on to something for me!
