Uggg, you guys are killing me here! I just had to call my LHS and get him to put the Platinum Edition on order for me. It's a no brainer for me since I wouldn't have used the RTR radio or battery pack anyhow.

Just don't see the attraction of the Slash w/ that chassis design?

Agreed. Won't compete with the Hyper 10 SC or the CRT.5 version, though it does have more ground clearance... And it's waterproof.

Hmm...That is odd. That is a lot of bang for the buck though! Might have to save my pennies for one of these! The platinum editions are going to go like hot cakes, because most of us already have our own batts and radios.

I see a lot of attraction to the vehicle in general.

A) If it's anything like my 2wd Slash was, it'll take a beating and just laugh at you.
B) Parts availability is going to be much better than Ofna/Jammin, for stock parts and aftermarket parts.
C) I wouldn't judge a truck based solely on how it may handle on a track. I really don't give a damn since mine probably will never see a track.


The price tower lists when an item first comes out isn't usually what they'll sell it for. It's already been stated on multiple forums that the Plat. Ed. will be almost the same price as the RTR. Keep an eye on the tower link, you'll see it decrease. My guess is they list that price based on the MSRP and then adjust it when they get actual per unit cost info from Traxxas.

A) I've never really been impressed by the durability of the Slash. Granted, I have never owned one (didn't see a point) but from the customers who have brought theirs in I've seen a number of things that would have been easy for Traxxas to fix in the first place. Of course if you spend $50+ in upgrades then it's reasonably durable (until you go BL...) But for example, in the same conditions my stock Blitz has taken WAY more abuse than a Slash did without any part breakages until I went BL (Slash was stock and broke several parts). Not trying to make this Blitz vs Slash, though.
So if the Slash 4x4 is as durable as the 2wd, then I'd be disappointed.

B) You're definitely right on that point. Parts will be EVERYWHERE. However, I go back to my point above: you don't need parts if it doesn't break :whistle:. I'm fortunate that Nitro House is in the same city as the college I go to.

C) One of my buddies will be getting the Slash 4x4 (probably Platinum) as soon as it comes out, and we will be able to do some comparisons between it and my Hyper Mini ST-converted Hyper 10 SC. Even off the track I forsee the Slash 4x4 under-performing in comparison, but it's just skepticism for now.

Do you guys know that the Slash 4x4 plat is 16th scale.....

I had a Slash, 2 of them actually. Aside from a stock shock cap popping off, I never had any breakage from bashing. This includes running one of them with a MMM, Medusa 36-60-2000 and 4S. I have no durability complaints regarding the 2WD Slash.

It's not necessarily about needing replacement parts. However, with knowing the parts are plentiful, it's a little easier to justify bashing the vehicle harder since parts are easier to find and won't keep it shelved for a week+ each time waiting on parts to be delivered.

There's a little to be said for the extra ground clearance of the Slash chassis, especially for those folks that want to put larger tires on it to make it more of a 4WD Stampede. So what if it doesn't handle as well?!? A Stampede doesn't handle for crap, but it's still fun as hell to drive. Every new truck doesn't have to be based on a buggy/truggy platform to be something fun to drive. This hobby is about fun right, or have you guys forgotten that? Not everything is about competition.

Fun... school kinda takes that out of us at times. Yet again you're right, just driving a 4x4 Slash would be fun! Stampede, I'm not so sure (not my cup of tea). However, if my truck is performing better than my buddy's then I'm having more fun :na: Sorry to say we're gonna have to agree to disagree.

Anyone get their 4x4 Slash yet?!?!? My LHS has 3 of them sitting behind the counter and wouldn't open one of them. I want to see how they are stock and how they handle on the track.

I brought one home with me from the store today.. Ran a few of my 3s 5000 packs from my 1/8th stuff through it.. I've got about 2-3" of snow on the front street and this thing is a freaking blast!

Can't comment on the handling because I was just messing around in the snow.

Durability is there, no issues after a hard 4 packs through it. Setup the launch ramp and it saw 6+ feet a few times landing on the clean driveway.

I was going to put one of my spare MMMs in it tonight but I think I'll wait until at least tomorrow night because I don't want to go in the snow with the MMM. I wish it was waterproof, it would have been in there already :(

just saw one at the track last night. waiting for the platinum but it looks like it should be another fun class.

Picked a RTR up from the LHS yesterday. I was going to get the PE, but it was too hard to resist the RTR sitting there on the shelf yesterday.

8 of these came into my LHS and they sold out the first day. They look to be good aside from the Velineon ESC. Typical LVC issues with them, people are already swapping them out for Castle controllers but they're a hoot to drive.

got the PE yesterday. if the track is open sunday ill test it out .i installed the center diff ( which is in the box but not in the truck) so simple to work on. WOW 4 screws and the rear end comes off and the diff slides in after the slipper slides out.

my platinum is in the mail. should have it monday. then time to get rid of the stock esc and motor.

The vxl system is pretty nice actually. (my younger cousin got one to get into racing) stayed pretty cool running 2s lipos:neutral:

Yeah BB16 the vxl system looks alot nicer now then the 1st version I got with the rustler. The motor is one piece now at the front end bell / can, with a beveled edge now and the finish is alot better. It's a good 1st bl esc to learn with. IMO

you can also use a sensored motor with this esc. still the brakes and reverse are no good. really have to race with no reverse unlike a more expensive esc . have to see what rules are made up to see what can be changed.

So how do you like the ofna.I like there products but for me its hard to find parts. Really like the performance of 4800's on 2s in my slashes though.

Great truck.. weight is a touch forward when jumping 1/8 style monster jumps.. nothing skill can't clean up and with the 8ight shocks she is great on the track. I've seen a mod where they move the battery slightly back some as well. Only broken part to date, after a few months w/ some indoor racing etc has been a body post. We'll see if the good luck continues :) nitrohouse.com is where i bought the truck, they have plenty of spare parts.. good pricing.
