Inciteful and ironic input to say the least. I went to my LHS a few days ago and decided to play with the Losi Micro crawler, my first time driving on ANY crawler EVER in my life. The LHS guy who I know well, set me up on the Losi test cardboard with some obstacles to try and conquer to the top of a parts pile. I amazingly was finding myself having fun trying to figure how the hell to crawl up this rolled up car mat and up to this next box that was nearly as high as the crawler itself, while trying not to flip the crawler over like a retarded turtle or rolling off the side onto the floor. Unbelievably, I found the challenge fueling my drive to get up that box kept me going, I wasn't gonna let that damn box get the best of me! The LHS guy was watching me, laughing and smiling at me the whole time, as if he knew something.... After draining two batteries, I finally got up the box and on the RC parts pile and did a little victory pose with the micro crawler and I literally jumped into the air with a "Woooo!* I was so excited and proud of myself! The guy smiled at me and said "Now you know...." I was shocked at how the "challenge" of that damn box beating just forced me keep trying and going until I conquered the damn thing!
Now I want a Losi Micro crawler to play with in the apt this winter and a Night crawler in spring! What the hell has happened to me??! :oh: |

I don't want to say we told you so, but.......WE TOLD YOU SO!!!! :na: Im glad you liked it. The micro crawler and a couple cases of beer and you should be having a blast...if not you aren't doing it right! |
LOL And i micro crawler is a toy compared to its bigger cousins...
|
One thing to watch for is if you want to try it, get a good rig to start with. I am not bashing the Wheely King, but I got one when they first came out, 2wd drive ect.....up graded it, it was fun as a little monster truck, but then I started looking at some of the crawlers that were around....any way long story short, what I have dollar wise in my WK I could have gotten a good Ax-10 set up or if I had been really patient the Losi crawler, which would perform better I believe (my lack of driving skill aside ) than I can get out of my WK.

dont get a nite crawler, start off with a good rig, buy berg

Set your standards a bit higher and ditch the night crawler and get the losi comp or a Comp Axil. Only because you know dam well your gonna upgrade the crap out of it, with the bar and purchase set higher, less mods and upgrades will be needed ! And then you can install what electronics of your choice. The Novak Rooster is a perfect starting platform and inexpensive. A few HC small lipos and your golden.
|
Nah, im not interested in the scalers, I rather like the look of the Losi Night Crawler and such. I'll first purchase the Micro crawler and see how long I keep interested in crawling before I spend money on a full sized one, just to be sure.

I'd skip Micro and get a Mini - That way you can actually compete with it in due course.
|
The mini is nice, it can climb couch cushions/pillows/boxes and real rocks too. Really best of both worlds.
If you look for a 2.2 crawler later I would go Axial simply because it has the most support out there and it's a great platform. |

I too would go with the mini over the micro. For a bit more money you could get the mini which has HUGE support and also you can fart around on the rocks a bit more to see if you like it. The micro is almost limited to indoors which will surely bore you in a hurry.
On the wheely king, there is no argument that it is not the best platform lol. I bought it new, 2wd, and went to town from there. The only stock parts I have left are the axle housings, bearings and tranny case... I have more into the axles alone than what the truck is worth brand new but I learned A LOT about the axles, how everything works and crawling in general. Starting with an under-performer will make a better crawler out of you anyways. |
No comps?
Funny because the largest scale comp in the United States in held in Montana every year in May. |
I saw that even Integy has entered the crawler game with the IRock 1/8th scale. Not knowing much about crawlers, it at least looked good for the price they were asking (I think I was at Hobbytown).
Freeze - you have more good places to run available to you than most of these guys can even dream about. With the terrain choices you have, I wouldn't go with the mini size - The Axial would likely be a wiser choice for you. |
Crawling is amazingly fun for as slow as it is. The run times are also a huge bonus. If it isn't for you then it isn't for you, but personally I love watching the suspension work and seeing the little machine conquer the terrain. I don't have a crawler (too many other toys to get rid of before I can let myself buy one) but it's very technical (for people like me, that means fun) and we have no shortage of crawling terrain out here.

:slap: Dude, you live right near the ruggedest and prettiest part of the Rocky Mts. If there is anywhere to crawl, I can't imagine a better spot (other than maybe southern Utah.) CO has to be great too. One of those has to be a lot of fun to take camping and mess with while you are hanging around the site. My cousins have houses near Babb by Glacier, and I've been around there and Hungry Horse and all that. Incredible places to go and play off in the woods. If anyone can complain, its poor Bondo (FL) and BrianG (IA). Biggest mountains Bondo is going to find are the one's laying on Miami Beach. Quote:

Batteries last long too since not much high speed runs are involved. Just steering, torque, and tactics onhow to overcome something. |
