Not much to report about it yet. Quality seems very good. Very powerful servo. It will probably be another week or two before the snow is gone and I can actually get outside for some real testing.

Only other thing is I can't get the alloy servo horn I bought (Dynamite Futaba horn) to fit. All my other plastic Futaba horns and servo savers fit fine, so it could just as well be poor machining on the Dynamite horn, but it does fit fine on an old Futaba servo I tested it on, so not really sure. Turnigy servos are definitely 25-tooth Futaba spline.

Will you run it off 7V?

simplechamp 03.13.2010 02:27 AM

Yep, 7.4V from CC BEC.

how does the speed seem, i just ordered one for my buggy, how does it fit on your mount? the specs say it is 5mm taller from the tabs to the bottom

simplechamp 03.16.2010 03:36 PM

My truggy uses a laydown mount, so it fits fine, not sure how it would fit on a standing orientation servo mount though.

Seems very fast to me, but this is the first "good" servo I've had so I don't have any reference to the high-end Futaba or Hitec servos.

When someone else gets theirs if you use an alloy horn let me know if/how it fits. Still not sure if my Dynamite horn is the problem, or the servo output is a tiny bit larger and can only squeeze into plastic Futaba-spline horns.

Doesn't it come with an alloy horn?

big greg 03.16.2010 05:41 PM

you have a futaba horn? i wonder if its jr spline, i believe they are 24t instead of 23t like futaba

simplechamp 03.16.2010 07:09 PM

It doesn't come with an alloy horn (for a servo that can make this much torque the included horns are pathetic, but that's the price of choosing Turnigy instead of Hitec), and Futaba spline is 25-tooth. The Turnigy servo has 25T spline, but maybe the diameter is slightly different, just enough so the plastic can still squeeze on there but alloy won't budge. Or like I mentioned maybe the Dynamite arms is out of spec/tolerance slightly. I just don't want to buy another alloy arm of a different brand only to find it doesn't fit either.

rawfuls 03.16.2010 07:10 PM

OH, right, sorry, for some reason I thought it was a Hitec servo, guess I was dreaming :)
Well, all Hitec servos do come with alloy horns.. nevermind now..

big greg 03.16.2010 09:12 PM

the only horn that is 25 is hitec, the others are 23 and 24, dont ask me why hitec has the most teeth and its the smallest, kinda weird

simplechamp 03.16.2010 09:27 PM

From servocity.com: Futaba Servo Horns - These horns have the standard 25 tooth Futaba spline so they will fit all standard spline Futaba servos.

Futaba is definitely 25-tooth, and the Turnigy servos are also 25-tooth Futaba spline.

Hitec are actually 24-tooth.

Airtronics, JR, KO, Sanwa are 23-tooth

big greg 03.16.2010 09:39 PM

oops, my bad, i got jr and futaba mixed up, my bad

simplechamp 03.16.2010 09:54 PM

I just ordered a set of Hot Bodies D8/D8T plastic horns. They look pretty beefy and the plastic won't be so picky about fitting on the Turnigy servo spline. I eventually may get a clamping-style alloy horn, but for now the plastic will do.

clamps FTW :yipi:

i really hope thy didnt try to reinvent the wheel and come up with their own servo spline, that would be a huge down side to these new servos

big greg 03.17.2010 05:58 AM

i guess i will find out myself, cause plastic horns do not last very long. we could always dremmel something to work

big greg 03.22.2010 07:53 PM

they are futaba spline, i have a alu futaba horn and it fits right on

simplechamp 03.22.2010 08:06 PM

The Dynamite horn I bought must be the issue then. The teeth do look a little bit poorly done, looks like I'll have to try another brand.

big greg 03.22.2010 09:17 PM

i think im going to get the hotbodies one for the Ve8, the one i have now is ugly lol

big greg 03.28.2010 09:46 AM

well, didnt even last one race day, the motor id trashed, looks like there garbage

simplechamp 03.28.2010 07:24 PM

Ouch, that's a bit worrysome. We can only hope it was a fluke and is the exception instead of the rule. Sorry to hear about that Greg.

Were the endpoints set so the servo wasn't trying to turn past the mechanical limits of the steering system?

big greg 03.28.2010 08:38 PM

they were a little past but not much, just to make sure there was no loss of steering, i do it to all my servos, i sent an email to hc, we will see about a replacement
