I have the terra pins already on 17mm rims - Maybe I'll just run them for a bit before slashing on the Baja stuff...

Still no sign of a chassis... :(

If you wish to put them on different rims they bake right off, the HPI glue sucks and releases at 300degrees in 15 minutes. Hardley any crystalized CA residue is remains, if so it'll flake right off.

Baja require 24mm adapter which don't exist yet (HPI stuff is still on order); you can use the 23mm adapter for the Savage from ProLine but requires wrapping some metal tape around to get a snug fit.

On my 5B/T Savage build I am using front and rear Baja 5B ProLine Badlands.

They are also heavier than most of the 8th scale tires. Personally I have been running, on my XL, Big Joes and Badlands.

Arct1k 06.07.2010 08:34 PM

This hopefully will be an FLM 5B at some point... TCS has the 24mm adapters on backorder at a good price or was going to do the 23mm...

Reality is I should just wait until i get it built and see what looks good...

I'm really looking for the tire manufactures to play some catch up here. Seems their design(s) haven't been keeping up with the speeds and power levels that brushless systems are pushing now. Might actually be time for some thing that emulates belting.

I'm intrigued by the 5B rears. Been looking at them for a while, but still waiting for "used" prices to come down on them before I give them a try. I'm actually going to run my Flux for the first time since I rebuilt it last fall....You guys that have nice weather all year long need to appreciate what you have!

thzero 06.07.2010 09:36 PM

TCS has had them on backorder for quite some time!! I'm still waiting for mine to be filled, but they are waiting on HPI.

Personally I think the TerraPins look like crap.

As for "belting", I found gorilla tape works really well.

OK - so this thread is back from the dead...

After 15 months or so I finally got my motor and transmission back from Jamie and FLM but sadly he's scrubbed the idea of making a Savage Super Extended chassis...

So its back to the drawing board!

What are your chassis recommendations?

Options:

- Flux
- TCS Extended
- Savage XL
- FLM XL
- FLM Tranny FWD XL
- ???

What do I go with?

Still wanting to get in a 1717...

suicideneil 09.18.2011 07:14 AM

Well that sucks.

The tranny forward seems like a nice option for keeping the batts inside the TVP and the weight well balanced, though the GCM Desertboy chassis is nice too for a 'big' savage, depends which looks better to you as both seem pretty sturdy by all accounts..

Arct1k 09.18.2011 07:20 AM

I'm leaning towards FLM FLUX XL...

The batteries will still be outside the tvps but should give me lots of room for the 1717...

Any views on bulks - I have the stock bulks at the moment and am debating about the FLM super hybrid bulks which use buggy diffs...

The extended arms look interesting but not sure if i need them with just the xl chassis

JThiessen 09.18.2011 12:58 PM

I kinda like the DB chassis - but what I dont like about most of those is the added weight. THe FLM bulks just seemed to kill the life in my Flux. Sure it was less wheelie prone, but it also didn't jump near as well or dramatically even. Are buggy diff's really an upgrade strength wise?

I would go with a set of carbon fiber XL or longer TVP's if I were in your shoes.

Dont worry about keeping the batteries inside - unless you want/need to run a single pack. I think having the batt's outside might help a bit with the handling on the savage - although I have never tried mine with a single pack.

Arct1k 09.18.2011 06:44 PM

OK looks like I'll stick with:
FLM45400 Flux HD Extended TVP
FLM45410 Flux XL Center Skid
FLM47500 TVP Skid Brace
FLM47000 TVP Brace
FLM41100 Lower Arm Brace
FLM48000 Drag Link

Arct1k 10.02.2011 08:12 PM

OK So I'm terrible at taking build picks - so what about all built pics...

Just need to glue tires and mount a body...

Motor mount is a one off special to keep it completely within the TVP's...

What is this witchcraft I see?

That's a rather trick idler setup, wouldn't mind seeing / hearing a little more detail about it- how it the gear(s) held into the bearing so it doesn't slide back & forth?..

bruce750i 10.03.2011 12:03 PM

It does look different, thanks for sharing it. Does the idler make allot of noise running?

Yeah, that ^ and what holds the bearing in there too???? It looks like it's just sitting there. Very interesting and neat build. Very good to see something different being done with the Savage.

Arct1k 10.10.2011 07:51 AM

Honestly it sounded like a wreck... If you've ever tried to run mod 1 and .8p steel gears together might get close...

If anyone wants to try the setup then PM me...

I'll be either picking up Mikes Flux mount or using Mikes CD mount.

josh9mille 10.10.2011 10:21 AM

That looks pretty cool. I like how the motor is centered in the TVPs. Did you build that setup yourself?

E-Revonut 10.10.2011 01:04 PM

I'm guessing that it's so noisy because how small the two gears are. I would put two larger gears on there, then the shaft will be spinning slower.

No it came from Jamie at FLM...

I have a spare RC-Mon CD Setup and a new diff on the way...

CD all the way! http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...=savage+thread

That idler setup was a neat idea, but I seriously doubt it would have lived long.

I have completed my savvy, I'll get pics up when I can.
