So if you remove the top screw completely, will the motor just come out of the mount with that lower screw/steel countersunk washer?

Motor comes out, however you cannot pull that plug out when the upper screw is sinched down.

It looks great. I have an older model that got bent. but I dont like that the motor is only held with 1 screw. Why was this new design created? what was wrong with the old setup? yeah it took a bit to set mesh but it was solid... I just bent it back and tapped a hole in the side to try and brace it...well see

But if tapped to 4mm (on motors applicable) it probably would be solid. but I would not trust 1 3mm screw to say an 1520 CC/Neu in
an 8ight truggy...

So how close is that motor to the chassis noW? it looks alot lower than the older 1. should be nice.

Could be very low, but im using the spacer plate that came with it to space the spur from the chassis. do you know the tensile strength of an m3 screw. it will surprise you..

According to McMaster, tensile strength of a 12mm long M3 screw is 174,000psi, however, that is pretty much a straight back pullin force, and it is rare to get a straight back pulling force on the motor in an RC. I've twisted the heads off plenty of M3 cap head screws before, and I've also bent and sheared off quite a few of them too. For instance, I bent 4 M3 cap head screws holding the DiemakerDave wing mount to my UE knucklehead shock tower on my Maxx when it landed hard straight down on the wing mount from only about 4 feet in the air. Now or course, that was 12 pounds of truck landing on that wing mount, and it did bend it pretty badly for being high grade aluminum, but the point is, that bent 4 M3 cap head screws at once and ripped the nut off the lower two. A heavy motor puts alot of force on a motor mount when landing flat on the ground, and if the car lands upside down, its going to want to pull that lower screw and washer out and bend the upper screw. IMO, there needs to be a machined lip of some kind at the back of that lower hole so the motor actually has 2 screws holding it on. It may be convenient to just have to remove 1 screw to pull the motor, but I'd rather be sure my motor is very strongly secured to the motor mount.

If you were to look into the geometry of it all, with the upper screw tight the whole motor is pulled flush against the mount, to bend the screw in that position you have to stretch it.. before you knock it get one and see for yourself...

whoa there keyboard cowboy...

i installed the losi mount earlier today, and i find it to be an amazing improvement over an already great design.

i LIKE that the top screw is what holds the whole motor in. i NEEDED a quick change mount. the losi's mount sucked, and elite's has been long gone.

I used Mike's motor cover and drilled the 3mm holes to 4mm so it would be stronger on higher jumps. i threadlocked everything in and took some high jumps this evening.

WOW...this mount is STRONG. no flex at all. imo, it does fit better than the first mount too.

it took a great beating and stayed strong. i need more of these for my other rides. this is a GOOD improvement.

i also would like to get a hold of a few more of those black aluminum spacers used in the bottom hole. it would be nice to be able to have 2-3 motors ready with them already assembled to the motor so i can just unscrew the top hole and drop a new motor in.

Truely, i think Mike has out done himself. this is a great piece of engineering.

Are you using the bottom plate/standoff, I hear it fits pretty good.... I know the guy that designed it:oops::oops:

the bottom plate is the glue that holds this mount together. yes, i am using it. it really makes this one incredibly solid unit.

why thank you.

I dont think my 8ight can be any more rc-monster-ised

DwightSchrute 07.17.2010 08:24 AM

i just came back in from doing more high jumps.....

WOW.... is about all i can say.

i almost never come back in without a motor coming loose.

today, it stayed solid as a rock.

Guys, i can't say enough about these mounts except get them while you can. they're gonna be the hot tip on any track soon as soon as word of mouth spreads. these mounts are versatile and very very strong.

georgec 07.17.2010 08:37 AM

Hey brushlessdoy, got any pics with the lower plate installed? This motor mount looks very promising!

sorry to keep invading this thread, but i just bought another losi mount. i'm gonna take the one i have to the track today and spread the word.

georgec 07.17.2010 12:06 PM

Sweet!

bigboi146 07.17.2010 03:04 PM

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys!

georgec 07.17.2010 07:51 PM

Doubt very seriously that one of these will be made for my Z01-B, not enough of us out there. But hopefully one will be made for my buds D8 and D8t.

Nard Cox 07.18.2010 05:57 PM

Are these mounts already out for the RC8T? A friend of mine wants one.

brushlessboy16 07.19.2010 12:22 AM

Can a mod change the nameof this to 'updated Rc-monster motor mounts'

georgec 07.19.2010 06:20 AM

Good idea! I don't even like reading that name in this forum

Well First, I would never doubt Mike, His Engineering, His Designs, His Machining or His Products...there is no one or nothing better, PERIOD!

Second, I have (3) of the "Newest" BL-Conversion Motor-Mounts; (2) for both of my XRAY XB808 2009-Spec & 2010-Spec 1/8 Buggies and (1) for my Kyosho MP777-WC, and I beat the ever-living crap out of them and have never had a single problem with them...they are ABSOLUTELY Rock-Solid! The "New" Design is not only better and easier to work on, they are just as strong, if not stronger, than the "older" design!

Third, I have (2) of Mike's BL-Conversion Revo/Slayer Motor-Mounts, and they have withstood more punishment than any Revo or Slayer should ever have to deal with, but they are still perfect! Sure...my very first Revo Motor-Mount got bent, but it had nothing to do with the Mount itself, I didn't set the pinion properly so it caught the slipper and the Crazy-Strong Torque of the MMMv3 ESC & CC/Neu 2200kV Motor torqued the motor forward & sideways, bending the motor-mount slightly (but Mike replaced it and it has stayed perfect since).

And Lastly...I just recently bought one of Mike's Universal Center-Diff Motor-Mounts for a Custom Supermaxx Build, and I plan on beating the crap out of it as well, and I have no doubts that it won't bend, bind, break, or do anything except remain PERFECT!

RC-Monster Mike ROCKS!!!

coolhandcountry 12.20.2011 12:12 PM

The great thing about Mike is he is a Hobbiest in this field too.
He has been around and knows what will work or not.
Looks like some great mounts.
May have to look into some of these for a project.

Chadworkz 12.28.2011 05:29 PM

Yea, he is the nicest guy, loves the hobby, and actually enjoys what he does...that's what makes Mike & His Products so Awesome!

How Big Pinions can fit?

I read this entire thread, and no-one failed to mention how big of pinions can you fit in this mount. I was told you can now only fit a 22 pinion max with a 43 spur, I dunno the truth of that, just what I heard. I don't bash, I run top-speed only and need a mount that will fit a 30 pinion, or larger. yes his old one was a pain, but it was perfect for that kind of stuff. I thought we all ran Mikes mounts cause we can gear the crap out of our cars and this was the mount to do it in. If we can't do that anymore then what was the point of such a great mount. No disrespect ofcourse, but if we can't gear up, then the speed guys are in trouble in my opinion. What mounts do we run to fit large pinions. Atleast in my Losi 8 and my new DM-1. PLZ correct me if I'm wrong, and thanks again......Oh, one last thing, how big of a motor can you fit in here, can a Castle 1717 still work here, Ty.......
