No, not exactly.

But it might enable you to use a battery with a lower C rating.

I'm sure this will serve to tame amperage spikes during acceleration.

I have a 12" 3 Blade Prop hooked up to serve as a fan as my desk.

Yeah, it's wicked when you turn it up, but is a nice breeze on low.

Powered by a Mamba Max Pro, it has kept me cool for hours on end.

I installed the update to my MMP, and it's going to be very interesting to play with.

The smallest number on the torque control scale ramps the speed up slowly, like climbing a hill.

I can see where dialing this control in, to your setup and track conditions, will definately give a race advantage. You can dial in the degree of controlability you need.

This will also serve to protect driveline parts.

It also makes me wonder if you could use a larger motor, gear a bit higher and still reach a higher level of overall efficiency?

Cooler Temps by taming amp spikes? I think so.

That makes sense.
Thanks James

Went back to v1.26 on the MMP and v1.24 on the MMM, both cars are perfect, smooth as glass, no cog and everything I want the esc to do.

I played with all the settings in I don't know how many combinations and always the same result. Alot of cog then lunging forward, if I kept the throttle at 1/4 it would run smooth (after the initial lunge) for about 5 seconds. Every five or so seconds it would lurch forward again.

I'll be waiting for v1.28, maybe everything will be good then, but currently with v1.26/v1.24 I have no complaints.

nuz69 07.21.2010 06:20 AM

When the grip is good, the acceleration and the amp draw is higher (dust vs on road for example)...
So it does not necessary tape the current spikes, but power the motor to get the best grip conditions. More power is given to the ground than temp and amp should not necessary be lower than before.
I am still concerned about the punch control disabled when the torque control is activated, so there is still amp spikes during a kickdown. That's why IMO you can't for the moment use lower C rating batteries... The next version will probably fix this anyway.

Patrick/Thomas

I loaded this new firmware and the my MM does not start anymore!!!! the lights only blink.. the BEC comes on and sends voltage to the steering, but that's about it...
no chiming from the motor... no response from the throttle... when i went back to an older firmware, there was no change... what gives??

Help Please...

edit: The fan stayed on the entire time...

bryan 07.21.2010 11:07 AM

Hopfully it isnt fried. I just got an update email yesterday saying replacments are three weeks out. Patrick probrably has a few set aside for certain cases like yours if you cant get it going:lol:

Sounds like you have this problem: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27597

Do you have a Castle link? Maybe try to reupdate you ESC with the castle link.

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.21.2010 03:38 PM

Yep... I used a Castle link... installed the new firmware because it was there and I also wanted the option of increasing Auto LVC to 3.5V per cell... but I when i started up the esc,
there was no chime confirmation, just the lights blinking... went back to the previous firmware and the problem persists... No Chimes, no throttle response and the fan stayed on.

Alien

Stoomstrijkijze 07.21.2010 03:39 PM

And if you load the default settings again?

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.21.2010 03:41 PM

I will try that later when I get home...

You initially said you have the MM (Mamba Max), but you also say "the fan stayed on". So do you have the Mamba Max or the Mamba Monster (MMM)? The issue in the other thread was only for the Mamba Max.

Sorry about... I meant the Mamba Monster... i edited the first post to mention the fan... So yes... My Mamba Monster is having the issue with the new firmware.

Yay! I had put the old-new sofware on my truck yesterday and went to run it today and it was dead as a doorknob. Got home and saw this thread and intalled the new-new software and it runs, no more paperweights :) thanks for the speedy fix castle creations.

Hmmmm... good to know you got the fix working.

No go for me man... I downloaded the new firmware (CURRENT CASTLE LINK VERSION: 3.255)... turned on the esc... the lights come on...
the fan starts up high and then settles when the yellow lights start to blink (but stays on a slower spin rate)... the Light react to the throttle
positions, forward, reverse and neutral... but no movement.:whip:

GO to the original firmware. then I went back to the brand new stuff, ( I got an error the first time), so old, new, than reinstall new.

and mine is back from the dead.

Still the same result:cry:... Do I send it to Castle for them to have a look at it?

You are using the Castle Link device to do the update right (not the direct USB port)?

That's odd -- we haven't had any other reports of a Mamba Monster having any issues. Does it chime on power-up when connected to a motor?

Thanx!

Patrick

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.22.2010 10:34 AM

No sir, no Chimes at all... just the lights blinking...

Hmmmm... I'd like to see your MMM personally.

I'll have Christy send you a new one today. Please return yours to my attention: Attention: Patrick del Castillo

Can you send me your personal info in a PM?

Thanx!

nuz69 07.22.2010 10:43 AM

Does the light blinking correspond to the number of the S of the battery (first serie of blinking) ?

If auto-Lipo detection is enabled, then the first series of beeps (not chimes) and LED flashes corresponds to the number of Lipos detected.

Thanx!

Patrick

I know, my question was for ANGRY ALIEN about the lighting sequence of his MM, but seems like you will take care of the problem yourself ^^

Huh? I don't follow...

nuz69 07.22.2010 12:49 PM

I asked if your MM recognised the voltage of your battery or if it just blinked to say "I don't have valid signal from the RX".

ANGRY-ALIEN 07.22.2010 01:06 PM

It recognised them, it's just not communicating with the motor it seems...

Is the starting algorithm different? Mine seems a bit choppier...

Any insight?

nuz69 07.22.2010 04:01 PM

Yes, I noticed it too, the noise is different, and the reverse is strange too.

Do you mean it cogs when you're making a slow start?

Hi Patrick... the ESC was sent off... you should have it in hand Monday morning.

nuz69 07.24.2010 05:03 PM

I tried the 1.28beta Castle just developed and the fan problem is solved.
But I still have my punch control problem : the motor acts like if there isn't any punch control although I set it on 80%. A little confusing ...

scarletboa 07.24.2010 06:17 PM

I put the latest firmware (as of yesterday afternoon) and I have noticed that it sounds a little different at low speed and it cogs more. Reverse is also rougher. I haven't changed any settings, only the firmware.

sikeston34m 07.24.2010 09:25 PM

This new firmware upgrade has me wondering some things:

#1. Since Torque is being controlled, will the amp spikes be tamed in proportion to the Torque Setting?

#2. Will there be an efficiency gain by running higher Voltage and taming the setting for how the motor is controlled?

Example:

Castle Neu 2200kv on 6S versus Castle Neu 2200kv on 4S

The 6S setup is "tamed" with torque control and throttle limiting to mimic the performance of the 4S setup. But the 4S setup is set to "all out" performance. Both setups geared the same in.......ummmm........let's say an E Revo.

The switching of the fet's on the powerboard will still conduct the full pack voltage, only the "off" time will be longer than the "on" time with 6S, compared to the 4S setup.

#3. I'm also wondering if these "tame it down" settings would allow using higher kv motors on higher than rated voltage?

Temperatures being the overall guide, of course.

phatmonk 07.24.2010 09:53 PM

Should I stay away from this update for my MMM and MMP?
