I bought that body form a member on RCTech who does painting. It looks better in person than in the pic. His prices seemed reasonable as well. Just a tad more than RUSTY XL5 charged. If you would like his name let me know crap..i never took a picture of it..will have to do so tonight and send you a pic of it |
Made me wonder cause It looks Sooooo much better than mine that he painted.
Nah, I doubt I'll go that route ever again. Getting burned once is enough, rather not take a chance again at that. To many variables and a simple miscommunication could end badly. I've always painted my own but thought I'd take the chance just once. |
He did a much better job than Andrew did for sure. Don't blame you one bit either for painting your own...i just HATE painting bodies
|
It is a pretty nice lookin body I have to agree. I can paint awsome with solid colours lol :)
Ok good to know about the fluids, by the sounds of things im not too far oof from where I should be.. Today is the day hopefully that I can get er going  |
Ok!
I drove it for the firs time today woooo :) seemed like alot of power was unloading to the front.. I so now I have my center diff open, the center gears are out, and its mostly clean of the old fluid.. How do you get the outdrives off? I seems like its locked to the pinion some how.. |
Put some wd40 and hit it repeatly on the floor. Or gran the planetary directly out with a fin tool.
|
Awsome!
Thanks man! :) Hey.. wait a sec.. There is a bearing infront of the outdrive.. |
You put the wd40 in the cup, not outside ;).
|
Remove all the gears and the outdrives are held on with a small pin...remove pin and bearing and done
|
Doh!
Okay thanks guys  |
I clean my diffs and shocks with BrakeClean...works great. Usually one can last me a complete cleaning of all 3 diffs providing I flip diffs over and let as much oil drip out as I can before I clean.
|
Well, Ive been messing around with this thing in terms of diff fluids, and Im close! I played a bit with some placement of certain components, and Im content with this. Im going to scoop a set of revolvers like in the other photos, but they will be standard offset, with badlands mounted  I do think I may need a better steer servo tho.. is 200oz enough? Because thats what I have on there now.. Unless my servo is worn out, it has had alot of use heh..
Other then that tho I like it, this thing rips. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/6568/img3695ma.jpg http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1535/img3695t.jpg http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4030/img3692x.jpg http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8273/img3692j.jpg |
I would get a stronger servo if it was me. I use a JR 9001T servo....http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...rvo-Metal-Gear This one works well for me
another...http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...rvo-Metal-Gear no really good servo is ever cheap! |
Holy carp mines just a little underpowered..
Thanks ! I knew it shouldnt suck that much lol :rules: |
A few very common truggy servos: JR9100T, JR8711T, Futaba9351, ACE1015XP, Hitec 7955TG.
A good quality 200in/oz servo with a good speed makes all the difference! |
Thanks, Im usieng an Airtronics 94361 at the moment. It does alright in my E-Revo, but this thing kicks its butt. I could try useing new axle carriers up front, Im not sure if that the proper name, but its like the revos.. They are almost sloppy loose right now, and still bind occasionally, like there is a step inside of them. They are from the previous owner, who raced it, so I can only assume they are fairly worn heh.
|
Well, I am about to order 2 mugen mounts, and keep the tekno chassis either as a spare, or take all of my spare parts and maybe a few dollars and make another one.. But I am looking forward to getting the buggy going, I have a feeling its going to be evil :) I took the truggy out for a boot the other day useing both 4s and 6s and dam its insane with high voltage, I like it :) I am getting a new steer servo for it, reciever, and another pinion since I looted it for use on my revo conversion. But in the mean time I thought Id post some more pix wooo

Hey guys, Im haveing some steering issues that I havent been able to figure out, so I thought maybe I should ask.. Ive had the front end apart a few times, but maybe I did something wrong.. This thing steers like crap! It has such a large turning radius.. If I tap the brake into a turn its fine, but on its own, it takes at least the width of a normal steet, like a residential street.. Do you have any tips or tweaks youd like to share? Like how to get a longer throw? Ill rip it apart again right now, but everything is smooth, and bind free..
Edit: OK! I figured it out lol, much gooder. |
I'm curious what the problem was :)

I love this truck now! I woke up about 15 minutes ago, but once I can function normally I am going to take it out for a rip! Im sad winter is comeing. |

My Mugen can also turn on a dime, I love it  |
Well, I think I have er. It doesnt quite turn on a dime because of my servo, but it turns reallly well. I love how it drifts thru corners. Im getting a new Hitec 7955TG servo from my bud, it only has about 20 mins use on it. That way I can toss this airtronics back on my revo, it seems to like that truck better heh. One thing I did notice tho is how warm the center diff gets when you are hard on the truck, Im assumeing thats normal? I cant give exact temps, but its close to the motor temp at times, but cools relatively quickly. I believe I am running 10k in the center. Would it be worth it to get an MBX6T over the 5T?
Edit: I set each tie rod to 2.330" and shes good! I should tighten the servo saver spring up a bit, but other then that Im content :) Also my buddy reminded me that I should attach the rear chassis brace.. noobs eh :) http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7470/img3754a.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/7470/img3754a.jpg |
I would run 20K in the center and try that. I run 15 front 20 center and 10 rear for bashing and it works great
|
I guess 10k is a bit thick eh?
20k in the center would probably help with turning a bit too heheh. |

Well, Im pretty sure I blew the front diff last night.. It could be the center diff, but Im almost positive its the front. That sux :( I have spare parts, but i still havent figured out how to get the outdrives off. I hate being a noob :(
Edit: Nope, the grub screw holding the pin in the shaft cup up front came out, casue it to wedge.. now its got some loctite in it heh. |
Blue loctite ALL those grub screws and you should have no worries.
Also if you haven't done it yet, down load an exploded view of your truck..it will help. if you do not have one already |
Well, I got that part done lol.
About 20 minutes after the loctite set, this happend  Figures it has to be 50 bux for the parts I need :whip: http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2743/img3761r.jpg |

So, how was it running? |
Heheh yup, thems the breaks! Literally lol :) I just hate it when something breaks and the store is closed, or like in my current situation, 2 days before pay
As for how it runs.. Well I will be honest. At first, I did not like it, mainly because it steered like a bus. But! Checking the tie rod length really made a huuge difference. I guess the previous owner while it was nitro powered did not need much steering, or he steered with the throttle. But now, I think its an awsome machine :) Its very quick, even with just 4s geared 16/46 it pulls pretty hard. It will turn on a quarter, and it drifts very nicely. I took it out for its first ramp session yesterday, and I have to say, I really love how it flies :) Overall, Im very satisfied with it.. I realise you can buy a new model from any company, but as a first truggy, Im content with my choice. On top of a few suspension bits I want to replace, I was looking at what few hopups there are for it.. hmm. Also, Im starting to see what people are talking about when it comes to power and efficiency.. My run times arent for very long, maybe 15-20 mins just messing around out front of the house on the street. I do have a Q tho.. at around 30mph, the pinion/spur mesh starts sounding a bit ragged.. that would be a good indication the mesh is a bit on the sloppy side? I set it for about .030" of slop.. Edit: I think its just the metal pinion and spur sound.. Im not quite used to it yet heheh. My revo is much quieter heheh. |
15-20 minutes of run time per battery is very good considering the weight of the truggy. If you tweak your esc settings a bit you main gain another minute or two. I set my punch control down to 70% and that does make a difference. As far as hop ups go..I have Kings Head rear arm holders and that's basically it. It is a prospect version so there really wasn't muck to do on it......and yes it is a bit loud at high speeds with the metal on metal gears
|
Any vids of it flying around ??
Damage : front lower and upper arm, shock shaft and the plastic thing on the end? |
his damage is almost a mirror image of what i did one day
|
Yup, upper and lowers, shock end, and I hope the shaft didnt bite it, Ill have to check.. I just put it up on the shelf. I did give my buddy the cam, but he did such a bunk job, its truely sad :(
I will get this fixed and make a vid this weekend  I do have 1 jump on my ipod, it doesnt look too high, but it flew pretty good :) |
I have the OFNA/ X-RAY big bore shocks on my truck and it made a huge difference in handling and jumping. That would be a nice upgrade for yours. Not sure which ones I have as they came with the truck
|
You can find on Ebay a complete MBX6 center diff, which fit perfectly in the 5.
It's lighter and the teeth shape on the spur is different. I tried it yesterday and I can ajust the mesh very tight without any noise :yipi: It's true that the mbx5 spur make some noise, so I think it's a good solution to get the lighter mbx6 diff. I am almost sure that the rear and front diff spur and bevel are the same between the mbx5T and the mbx6T, to be confirmed by other... |
Hey thanks for letting me know :)
Nothing grinds my gears like a noisey drivetrain :yipi: |
Well, I got my truggy all fixed up :) I also scooped an HS-7955TG servo for it, but I need to go to the shop and grab a screw and horn for it, dammit. Once I get that tho, I will have 2 working trucks :)
Sorry for the picture spam http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/553/img3779.jpg http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9990/img3780a.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/1444/img3781z.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7633/img3782w.jpg http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/3149/img3784z.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1175/img3785t.jpg http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/613/img3788kn.jpg http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7673/img3789e.jpg http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9582/img3803je.jpg http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/8264/img3804o.jpg |
What type of run times are you getting with the mbx5t's? I have the tekno setup with MMM 2200kv and i'm looking at upgrading my 2-2s batteries to something that will get me more than 11 minutes with 12/46 gearing.
|
I use 16/46, and get about 15-20 mins with my lvc set at 3.5v usieng my smc 2s 5200 40c packs. Thats just ripping around on the front street. With my baby smc 3s 3400 18c I get about 10 mins heheh. Ive never been to a track tho, so I cant say how long they would last on one..
