Exactly.

RC toy = Is this with battery??? You asked. All I did was point out that the answer to your question is in the photograph. |
Ohhhhhhh, sorry, I didn't notice...
|
Well, I can't touch your setups, but I do have a Lightning with the Latest Version VBS & 16mm Racer-X! Seriously, your builds are simply amazing...I would never have the balls to do what you did, but they both turned out awesome!
Here's Mine... http://www.supermaxx.info/images/LiVBSM1.jpg http://www.supermaxx.info/images/LiVBSM2.jpg http://www.supermaxx.info/images/LiVBSM3.jpg |
Looks fantastic.
What body is it you use? |

Got the rear knuckles shaved down so I could install this set of Monsters I got. Installed a Castle motor cooling fan and a Savox servo a while back. Pretty much complete now, only thing left to do is install some limiter straps.

Very nice
Hey Joe that is a very nice looking truck, except for that God awful windshield reflection in the second picture. Scary!!!! ha ha ha ha. No really nice truck you have come up with there. Now lets see some videos of how it works.

 Thanks for the kind words Jerry! I will get some video ASAP! |
Very nice truck you've put together. I really like the overall look.
I have one suggestion, Black Rims to match the chassic and arms. Nice work, Nick |

I installed some limiting straps on the Predator tonight. http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...belimiters.jpg http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...belimiters.jpg Thanks for stopping by and checking out my build. I appreciate the response, these are fun projects. |
Very nice build, I wouldn't change a thing! Man do I love the RacerX with the swept backs, especially in black. As I said earlier, I love The design of UE (and the other old school Maxx stuff, Dace, Duh etc.) but the monochromatic finish of polished aluminum doesn't do much for me. This on the other hand is awesome, I love how you kept it all old school except for the body and electronics. Will be looking forward to seeing more of the Lightening too!

I am thinking about ditching the wing and current shell and doing a Ironhide Transformer GMC Top Kick. What do you all think? I think it might look pretty cool with the Monster wheels and I looked at it today and the wheelbase fits perfectly. I am a big Transformers fan and already have 2 Decepticon bodies on my Clods. http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1315022532 http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...adeprofile.jpg So I think having a Autobot Predator might be kind of cool. Just unsure yet, have not made up my mind.... |
Got the shell done for the Lightning. Our resident painter over at the UE forum did this for me.
This shell turned out very sweet! I saw this scheme on another truck in the UE Gallery and I gave Menardo a couple other ideas and he pulled it off with his talent. Very Nice!!! I will proudly display this on my rig, from one UE member to another.....Thank you! http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...oto2_37228.jpg http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...0/6/Photo4.jpg http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...0/6/Photo5.jpg http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...oto3_68289.jpg http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...0/6/Photo9.jpg |
Finally got word that all my small pieces I sent out for anodizing are finally done. :yipi: The dude got behind and I sent him a email this week telling him to just send them back anodized or not because I wanted to start on the Lightning build since I tore it down and packed it away again till I could do a final build. So hopefully have some updates next week on the Lightning. I sent out over 40 small tid bits to be done in black so I did not have all of the little shiny pieces sticking out everywhere.
|
I started on getting my Lightning built up now that I got all my little black pieces back from the anodizing shop I sent them to. I have been working on it all weekend and got a lot done. Going to work on the shocks and suspension this week.
Building up the diffs : http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...ffassembly.JPG Shimming was not too bad at all, once I got the rear all completed and assembled it was not good so I had to take that one back apart and remove a shim from the pinion shaft. Then it smoothed it right out. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...pydersetup.JPG All done and skids on: http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/.../6/VBSdone.JPG Had to mess with the G1 transmission a bunch. I don't know if it was the anodizing that added the tolerance to the bearing seat on the one side of the case or what but every time I would bolt it together it would bind up and not roll freely. I replaced all the bearings and had to grind the input gear a bit to free it up. Took forever to get it done right but I finally got it. Mounted the F/R up and the transmission. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...hassisdone.JPG http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...bottomdone.JPG More coming this week. :yipi: |

Just normal anodizing. The input shaft gear I ground down a bit on the G1 side of the case and it seemed to help with riding on that bearing.

Nice man toy
Thats a nice man toy you have there Joe. The Maxx truck is alive and well. Now this is a truck worth putting into R/C Action Magazine. You are creating a SuperMaxx that has not been done before. Thanks for sharing.
|
Man, that looks really great!!!!!!

Did not get a whole lot done tonight, wifey and I spent some time watching TV getting caught up after her long shifts over the weekend. But I sat down and actually realized these might be one of the nicest pieces on this rig now that I opened the package up and felt them. Sold my Dave Mustaine Signature Jackson guitar for these bad boys. Hopefully be able to get them TiN coated some day, that would be bad azz. I have only seen Eric's and can just imagine how sweet it must look in person.
UE 8mm Ti CVD's :yipi: http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...E8mmTiCVDs.JPG Thread locked and Cow RC Moo Slick treatment http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...TiCVDsetup.JPG Installed Vantage Racing boots http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...mTiCVDboot.JPG These CVD's are soooo nice, very light on weight. 30g / 1.0 oz per CVD, nut, spacer and hex. Bought them from Mike with 4hrs left on his Ebay sale, decided I would enjoy these more than my Jackson since I never played anymore. Well just never got any better I guess I would say.....haha I am a better RC pilot than guitar player....LOL! Didn't get any farther this evening, I don't have anything going on tomorrow other than doing laundry so I will have a good amount of time to wrench and get my hinge pins cut and notched for the VBS. I have Plastix ejector pins to make them out of for the VBS. Thanks for following my thread! |
I have the 6mm Titanium UE CVDs and never thought about getting them TiN coated. Do you have someone that can do that, and do you have an idea of the approximate cost? Are you talking about trying to get that dark iridescent bluish-purple color? That would definitely would be very bad azz!!!!!!
|
TiN = titanium nitride coating, it's the gold colored coating you usually see on shock shafts and drill bits. It makes the surface more resistant to wear and reduces friction. TiN cvd's would definitely be different, and would be a really nice accent on both trucks.

I do not have a definite shop yet for this process, still looking here locally. I want to do these and my pillow balls. I found this chart on google : http://eltraglobal.co.uk/images/Colo...%20Coating.jpg This is what these CVD's look like done with the coating : http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...1/DSCN2512.jpg "Picture property of Eric Hornaday - 0700 - Duh Engineering" Once I find a shop for a reasonable price I will let you know. Eric said it was pretty costly but I had one other friend say he can get it done for right around $80. December was the time frame he quoted me when the shop could take my business so I hope that is still a possibility. I will have to see when that time rolls around. It for sure looks awesome though! My friend told me he got his done in Red but I have yet to find any Ti coatings in Red?? I am still waiting to see a picture of them, they sound spectacular. |
Yes I wish mine were totally Ti, but like you said a completly all Ti set is very rare. what size is the hex on those 8mms? In the grand scheme of things $80.00 is really nothing let me know if you find a shop. I will try to find a shop here in Houston and I will let you know if I can find a better price.
Thanks, Mike. |

Well I learned something today! Didn't know there were so many variations and that the blueish finish was a Ti coating.

MiRatlhed-
Post 54, the limiting straps. The truck looks like it is in full droop, yet the limiting straps aren't tight. Are they just for looks, or did you tighten the straps, or are the arms compressed a little? I'm so confused because these are works of art otherwise! |
Quote:
I tightened them up again after the pics, it seems one side of the strap likes to get real tight and the other stays a bit loose. Probably have to do it again, they are hard little buggers to keep tight and fasten while trying to hold the suspension just right before full droop. Even now it appears they are not tight just because the wire is pretty beefy but they are. I appreciate you checking out the pics and pointing things out, it helps me notice things sometimes I might have overlooked! Just now sitting here I had a brain fart, I have a small RC Jack I could use to get the suspension at just the right spot before I fasten the limiter holder on the shock tower......DOH..... |
Maxx trucks got me started in r/c, I will always love them. I try to choose a color theme for my builds too, but with off the shelf parts. You've taken it to a whole new level.
Thanks for sharing the pics and taking the time to post a thread. R/C sure is a fun hobby. I'll be watching:yes: |
