Part of your problem may be that you are geared for almost 70mph, if my calculations are correct:

yeah my overall problem with start up cogging may be my gearing; however, all testing has stopped now that my ESC is Bricked after trying to update the firmware...have to call CC tech today, but I assume it will be going back with months of waiting for a replacement...I don't have $$ to just buy a new one

This is the data im getting with my 1717 savage XL, no cogging and motor and esc temp covered in plastic was around 60f.
Great motor, my only complaint is that my run time compared to the stock savage with 1515 is halfed(ore more) :) Def a power hungry beast

i had an big 6s pack taped on the top of the reciver box, so the truck was a bit front and top heavy.
