no prob Mike. Heck if it was an option to just drill the tray and put a stop in and bolt it to the tray no sweat, I could look into that.

The cell shift was an issue before the whole hard case lipo deal really took off. Seen it with a variety of packs from el cheapos to some higher dollar ones like Hyperions.

I never had it affect anything in particular and I did prefer it to the bend you could get from using a Tekno style strapping system (down the middle strap could have packs bend at that point).

And mike if you find you are liking the MCD and want to make more upgrades for it, a really big thing would be some better shock shafts / forks combination as that area bends under impacts at times or snaps off. Pretty much the one main complaint short of using alloy arms that is an issue.

rotary rocket 04.20.2012 11:37 AM

How is the motor/center diff positioning looking?

If it is like your 1/8 set up, then I would guess one battery tray parallel to the motor on the opposite side of the chassis. The other battery tray in the back where the gas tank used to sit (perpendicular to the motor).

I will be using 8S via two packs of 4S, so two battery trays would be great. It will also help with the weight distribution.

Thank you for the love for our MCDs.

Were did that motor mount come from and how can I get one?

nitrostarter 04.25.2012 02:29 PM

That mount is similar to those offered by Tekno. They are intended to mount a motor where a nitro motor was as the mounting holes are the same as a nitro motor.

Big House 04.25.2012 03:41 PM

I get that...I was talking about the one shown here....is that one on the market anywhere. Currently the tekno only goes up to 42 mm. I would like one to fit a castle 1717.

That mount is a one-off custom, but it may possible to have another made. Ryujames here on the forums designed it and had it made. Last i talked to him, he was learning how machine parts himself.

Hello Mike,

Just checking in to see how you are progressing. Any pics you could share?

Cain 05.16.2012 12:22 AM

anyone else see this? If this is what MCD decided to go with, looking forward more and more to mikes kit.

killajb 05.16.2012 12:45 PM

Agreed.. (regarding looking fwd to Mike's kit). I'd rather have a purpose-build electric car, motor mounted properly on a center diff without all that extra gearing meant for a gasser in the way.

Cain 05.22.2012 11:49 PM

didn't notice this, but apparently both conversions were on display, so maybe the dual motor one is not dead in the water yet?

Watching this too, just saw the Monster Cheetah, that is cool.

Cain 05.23.2012 09:57 AM

Nah, that's an EZrun or one of the rebranded versions- the fan is too big and mounted over the esc casing, not inside.

Cain 05.23.2012 10:49 AM

thanks. I thought it looked like it, but wasn't sure. curious why they didn't go with a castle ESC but the motor.

Looking forward to seeing what Mike has come up with.

That's a link too the Cheetah Monster from largescalerc, it can be ordered with no motor also. That thing just looks badarse.

Cain 05.23.2012 04:10 PM

ah ok I see what you mean.

I actually had those tires and wheels except in white for a bit, but wished they had a steel ring around them. The hex is actually pretty beefy though so maybe it was a non issue.

bigblkblazin 05.24.2012 08:09 AM

I eagerly wait for this mount. I have several projects waiting for this piece to be made .

Got a message from Mike....mmmmm....my lips are sealed. :D

Yeah, I'm a stinker...hehe...

FG101C 06.06.2012 03:19 AM

Interested to see this.

Argh!!!!

You think he would be interested in making anything else for the vehicle, like alloy a-arms us mere mortals can afford?

rotary rocket 08.07.2012 04:16 PM

Monster Mike,

Any updates?

rotary rocket 08.26.2012 10:00 PM

Is this project dead?

RC-Monster Mike 08.27.2012 11:09 AM

Not dead, Larry - it was wounded for a couple weeks due to shop issues, but has recovered and is back on the table...soon to be completed. I do apologize for the slow movement due to unfortunate circumstances.

rotary rocket 08.31.2012 01:26 AM

No worries Mike, I'm glad the project is back on the front burner.

Any pics to keep us drooling would be appreciated.

Cheers.

rotary rocket 09.18.2012 11:01 PM

RC-Monster Mike 09.20.2012 11:25 AM

Very soon, my friend. Very soon. :)

rotary rocket 10.07.2012 09:56 PM

Mike,

Can you share a pic of what you have accomplished so far on this project?

TIA.

rotary rocket 12.05.2012 12:49 AM

Hello Mike,

Sent you a couple of emails, but did not hear back. Has your email changed?

RC-Monster Mike 12.06.2012 02:20 PM

Have to check my spam filters for your messages, Larry - email hasn't changed in years, but it isn't uncommon to find good emails in the spam folder.

rotary rocket 12.06.2012 03:15 PM

Just checking up on your progress on this project. Any updates you can share?

Cheers.

nho1 01.03.2013 05:03 PM

Installed the battery trays. I decided to keep the weight balanced and as close to the center line of the truck as possible.

rotary rocket 02.24.2013 11:23 PM

Motor went is with no issues. The mount is nice and beefy. Conversion came with a 12 tooth pinion and locked center diff. A regular diff is also in the works.
Check out the "back bone" brace. No flex what so ever.
