BrianG 03.12.2007 12:02 AM

Yeah, 32p would be nice.

Did you get your CRT yet?

And any word on when the next batch will be made?

glassdoctor 03.12.2007 12:21 AM

Yeah... too bad they didn't tell you there was two more on the way. Actually the two coming are being held by thd distributor until the new orings show up. Then they will ship to the LHS.

I don't know when more are coming out of China... probably pretty quick though, unless there is some hold up on the diff fix.

A guy I know said the Chinese new year is one reason only a few have got here so far. :D

BrianG 03.12.2007 12:54 AM

Diff o-ring? I remember someone at HH saying something about an "issue". I guess that's what he was talking about. Well, I guess it's a good thing I'm getting the next batch then! :)

BP-Revo 03.12.2007 12:56 AM

Nah, haven't got mine yet - funds my friend...funds.

I have ~$300 right now. I suspect I'll get ~$330 for selling my HV stuff. Between selling stuff and earning money, I'm hoping to have~$1100 by early to mid April. I will earn more at the end of May, and then I will have a job in the summer.

Take away about $550, probably more like $600 for the 1950/6 and other stuff for me G2R. That brings me down to $500, so that enough to get things rolling on the CRT project. Pretty much just the actual truck and have Mike order me the motor.

Then I'll need at least a good $400 or more to get it finished.

HH = Horizon Hobby right?

BrianG 03.12.2007 01:07 AM

Hmmm, funds, yeah. Just remember; it's not how much, it's how much per month! :027:

J/K. Using a credit card is a fast way into debt. I wait until I have the funds, use the CC for the rewards, and then pay it off. Looks good on a credit report too.

I recently dismantled parts of my Revo to get a better motor mount. GriffinRU in conjunction with Mike (last I heard) is fabbing something up for me. Other than that, I usually work on one project at a time. It tends to be cheaper that way. It's amazing how much this hobby adds up!

HH=Hobby Haven. It's a LHS in the Des Moines area. :)

jnev 03.12.2007 01:08 AM

I think HH is actually Hobby Haven if I am not mistaken.

Edit: BrianG beat me too it. ;)

BrianG 03.12.2007 01:16 AM

lol. How'd you know that? You from around here too?

BrianG 03.14.2007 01:27 AM

Yay! My CRT.5 has shipped!

Had a confusing conversation with them yesteday morning. I called them asking when they expected more in and they said they had one in stock right now, so I asked to talk to the shipping dept. That guy said he'd go check and came back saying all they had was the RTR version with the motor. Soooo, I asked to talk to the sales dept again and the guy there said that it was in fact the pro kit without the motor (and getting a little annoyed with me since I asked him if was sure). I then asked to speak to the shipping dept yet again and told him that the one he saw was the pro kit and the motor in the picture was simply a demo of what it would look like with a motor. Then, he went to the sales area and pulled the kit so they wouldn't sell it from under me again. Wow, talk about the right hand not knowing what the left is doing! I doubt I'll ever order from them again!

But, I still wasn't absolutely positive until I just checked and the order status is "shipped"!

There must have been more than a small amount available in the US. HH has had 4 according to GD. And the place where I got it sold at least 4 or 5. I can't imagine all the hobby stores throughout the rest of the US was shortchanged...

BP-Revo 03.14.2007 01:50 AM

Good news Brian.

You are to post pictures of it upon arrival.

I'm not asking. :D ;)

BrianG 03.14.2007 02:04 AM

lol, ok - will do.

There should be a forum rule where pictures of a new "toy" are mandatory. And if someone posts a thread or post describing a new acquisition without pictures/video, the post gets deleted. :)

BP-Revo 03.14.2007 02:05 AM

Deleted would be too easy a consequence. Instead, it should be a verbal stoning :p

BrianG 03.14.2007 02:28 AM

lol. "Verbal stoning", funny. Now, we just need to get a mod or two to buy into that idea.:027:

skellyo 03.14.2007 11:09 AM

Glad they finally got your CRT .5 on the way to you.

Also, just as an FYI, they probably shipped your package UPS ground with signature required for delivery. They always send them that way to me and I end up having to get it held at UPS to go get it since we're never home when UPS delivers here.

glassdoctor 03.14.2007 11:24 AM

Good news and funny stuff.. somehow I missed the posts on here.

I was told that the two main US distributors got only 9 kits each on the first train out of China :), and hobby haven got two from each of them.

I think now there are more out there... this was just the first ones to hit the shores.

BTW, the same thing has happened with other new releases... hobby haven often is among the first to get stuff and gets more of it. 8ight T was the same way... I have heard guys other places dying to get one and hh has half a dozen in the store right now (all spoken for) and I got to race mine a week ago in another city and the guys there had not seen one yet, even though they have had them on backorder for weeks.

riceman 03.14.2007 04:20 PM

Good news for you! Bad for me :031: I pre-ordered my CRT-05 at the beginning of this month. His distributor is Horizon Hobby and they told him to expect delivery on 27th. I pre-ordered my 8ight-T from him too. Just came yesterday. He got six of them when they first released... I was number nine on the list though and had to wait another 10 days for the next shipment. Hopefully the next batch of CRT-05's will arrive sooner than the 27th. I can't wait.

No, I am not from around that area. But I have heard about so many people shop there, the name is practically drilled into my brain, lol.

BrianG 03.14.2007 11:44 PM

@gd: Yeah, it just seems like the initial shipment is over the 18 specified. I wouldn't put it past marketing to say there is a limited supply just to boost interest and that "gotta buy it now" inpulse purchase. Maybe it's just the cynic in me. :)

@riceman: After hearing that I would be #9th in line for the next shipment, I shopped all over the place online. I finally found one place that said they had them in stock (thanks to another member here). After the ordering fiasco with this place, I was beginning to think I'd be in the same boat as you! In all honesty, it wouldn't really matter when it came because I know it'll sit on my workbench waiting for the owner to set aside the funds for other parts.

@***RC***: lol. And there's only two people that I know of here that mention the place! That must mean we talk about it a lot. :dft001: Unfortunately, it's the only LHS within a 30 mile drive that I know of...

BrianG 03.19.2007 09:16 PM

It came today! Yay!

I am quite satisfied with the build quality (basically as good as a regular buggy/truggy, just smaller) so I think this will be a success. :) The center diff mount and F/R braces are plastic. Not a big deal since it seems strong enough.

No pics yet, sorry. Maybe tomorrow. The only thing I've done so far is put together the shocks, servo, and wing - not too much progress today.

Anyway, the pitch is Mod1 strangely enough. I would've been willing to bet it would be something like 32p. Anyway, the spur is 46T, and the diffs are standard 3.31:1 ratio. They just used a shallower diff cup. I think a Kyosho spur may fit on the center diff since it uses a "standard" diameter diff cup.

One confusing thing though; it came with Proline tires and rims, but also another set of just rims. But this extra set has a different bead geometry than the Proline rims. Kinda odd.

Just messin with ya:005:

Sounds really cool!

BrianG 03.19.2007 09:45 PM

Yeah, I know. :dft001:

Actually, the wife left on a trip today and I thought she took the camera. I noticed later that it was still here. But I'm a little sleepy since I've been up since noon yesterday. :025: So pics will have to wait. :)

BP-Revo 03.19.2007 10:01 PM

Well, I hope there is a plastic spur, or else Mike will have to whip me up some custom pinions.

glassdoctor 03.19.2007 11:34 PM

Gimmie $10 and I will drove over to give Brian a wedgie or something.... and then make him get up and take some pics. :D

jnev 03.19.2007 11:54 PM

Sounds great. Can't wait to see it finally turn to brushless form. As far as I know, you may be the very first one to make it brushless.

BrianG 03.19.2007 11:55 PM

Ha ha! You don't know where I live! Although, my car doesn't exactly blend in...

glassdoctor 03.19.2007 11:58 PM

Yeah... drive around until I find that orange 3..... ha ha

btw, the track is dry enough to run on now... you should try out the hyper before it rains tomorrow night. Nobody has done any work on the track but it's at least the snow is gone and it's dry.

BrianG 03.20.2007 12:30 PM

lol. I know there is one other orange Mazda3 around, so make sure you get the right one! :) And BTW: it's "lava orange". ;)

Yeah, I saw that yesterday, but didn't have my Hyper 8 with me. And then today, I was running late for work and didn't have a chance to charge my lipos and gather everything together. Poo. Knowing Iowa, the track will probably stay wet and muddy until May once it starts raining. It doesn't help that the track has very poor drainage...

BrianG 03.20.2007 09:44 PM

OK, here are some pics. Happy now? ;)

And a comparison with my Jato to show relative size:

The only thing I've modded so far is the CF plate on the servo...

Yes! This little thing looks awesome! What motor system are you going to put in this?

Bye:018:

BrianG 03.20.2007 10:07 PM

Probably a MM 4600. I figure it's cheap and works well in the Jato, which is about the same weight despite the size. The 4600 will also let me easily use 2s or 3s. I was thinking of using 2s1p 5Ah maxamps lipos - 100A should be enough, eh? :)

jnev 03.20.2007 10:07 PM

Looks really nice and fairly straight forward for a conversion. Imagine it with a 5700 on 3s lipo :027: lol, it would literally fly!!! :027:

Edit: Even with the 4600, it shoudl have a high top speed and awesome run times.

BrianG 03.20.2007 10:14 PM

Yeah, I really like the 4600. It's treated me very well so far. After plugging in the various values, top speed is calculated at over 32mph with a 15T pinion. Great for a smaller track. 3s would be over 48mph.

BTW: The CRT.5 diff ratio has been added to the calculator...

BP-Revo 03.20.2007 10:56 PM

Sweet! Looks good!

Brian, could I go so far as to ask you for a few favors? :018:

First question is a simple one - what servo is that? Is that a standard sized one?

Second, could you measure the distance on the chassis from the servo to the tie bar on the front of the rear bulkhead.

Then, could you measure from the same tie bar to the post on the front of the chassis that the top plate bolts to (whatever that thing is).

Could you also measure the distance of the edge of the chassis (the part that has been angled)?

Lastly, can you measure width?

They don't have to be exact, but within a few mm is fine.

If you could do that it would be AWESOME! :027:

Seeing pics makes me want one now! :043::004:

BrianG 03.20.2007 11:53 PM

The servo is a Hitec 225 and is not a standard size servo. Even though it's small, the 225 has 67 oz-in of torque and 0.11"/sec at 6v. Should be plenty.

I'll get you the dimensions tomorrow if that's ok. I just shut everything down for the night after making about 80% of the motor mount (still have to "machine" out the mesh slots - the part I hate to do). To make it easier to know what measurements you need, could you grab one of the pics above and draw lines showing what you mean? You can either post it here or PM it...

EDIT: Edited to remove inadvertent profanity. :dft001:

BrianG 03.20.2007 11:59 PM

Hey glassdoctor, empty your PM's! I'm trying to respond to you!

LMAO, it must be getting late in Iowa!

BrianG 03.21.2007 12:29 AM

LOL. Ooops! :dft001:

I'll go fix that. Stupid letters on the keyboard keep jumping around. :027:

BP-Revo 03.21.2007 12:40 AM

Them letters like jumping around. :p

Tomorrow is fine - no big hurry. I thought it was that servo size...it looked a bit small to be a standard one.

I'll go edit a pic right now.

BP-Revo 03.21.2007 12:45 AM

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3...surebi6.th.jpg

There you go. Just measure along the lines. The lines have a T at the end to designate the start and ends of the measurement. Again, doesn't have to be exact (but it would be nice if it was within a few mm).

Thanks Brian! :)

Ok... I need to clean out the PM box.. hang on :)

Well if it wasn't late then it's definitely late now. Heck it's late even on the left coast now!!! ha ha I just owned California :D

BP-Revo 03.21.2007 10:33 AM

Hey - no smacking Cali - or Cali will smack you! :D
