congrats patrick on the first 100 posts. :003:

lol - everytime I see one of those videos with Jammin Jay driving I think the same thing. Too bad I can't post up any video that does the brushless conversion any justice. In fact people probably see mine running and say -wow too bad this guy threw away all that money:005:

BrianG 04.20.2007 12:24 PM

Someone just needs to get Jammin Jay to drive a BL converted one...

Hey the Jaco rear foams I found at tower for the Associated trucks work great they bolted right up after I pulled the wheel adapters there the same diameter as the stock tires and just a little wider. :)

jnev 04.21.2007 12:09 AM

Cool! Now I won't have to wear out the dirt tires on my "hope to come soon" crt.5. :dft012:

Do you think you can post the link for the foams and adapters? That would be great. Thanks!!

IBJAMMIN 04.21.2007 12:38 AM

You dont need adapters the Jaco tires use the pin like the RC10gt wheels just pull the hex adapters off and slide them on. Tower item # JACC2016 there 22 bucks a pr.:)

jnev 04.21.2007 01:30 AM

Oh, I understand. Cool. It'll be a lot easier than I originally thought.

Then I have to find a servo. Ibjammin how is that hitec working for you? I checked out the 5245 and they are only $40 so I am thinking of trying that.

On second thought maybe this is not the best servo I just melted mine :(

jnev 04.21.2007 05:18 PM

Really? How did it happen?

gixxer 04.21.2007 05:34 PM

that sucks. I just ordered one last night.

My friend & i are getting the futaba servos.

IBJAMMIN 04.21.2007 07:25 PM

It fried the circut board in the servo I need to ck my ubec and make sure the voltage is under 6v I cut the wire on the ESC but left the pin it could have made contact? I pulled the pin on the ESC plug and the best servo I could find was the Hitec 5245mg so I picked up another one

jaejw1 04.29.2007 10:55 PM

after practicing with a few of these (nitro) at the track yesterday ,, me and my lil vendetta ST.. i would like to get one and do a conversion..

what are the list of things needed to convert one of these from nitro to electric..

i was actually surprised that my vendetta was able to keep up with the nitro version on the straights.. but the infield is where the lil 18th scale falls short..

Welcome to the forums!

People are still trying to figure out the CRT.5 conversion steps. Most people want to use a plastic spur, but there are fitment problems (diff length). So, some are using a steel pinion on the steel spur, which isn't the "best" way, and some are modding the chassis. The center diff is the biggest hurdle. After that, it's just a matter of making your run-of-the-mill motor mount and battery tray. The good news is that there are a couple people (Mike included) who are working on some custom plastic spurs.

thank you.. i hope to learn a lot about this car from you guys..

who all.. or where is the listing of all the conversions aswell as where to get motor mounts and such.. or is everyone doing something diffeerent

BrianG 04.30.2007 01:02 AM

Mike (site owner) has several different mounts in his store depending on what vehicle you have, and he is creating more all the time.

He also does custom jobs on request, but those take understandably longer to do. He did one for me (Hyper 8) - I sent the whole buggy to him so he could test fit as he went along. Mike's stuff is top-notch; you won't be disappointed.

There is no comprehensive listing of all the conversions here, but if you dig around, I'm sure you'll find many of them.

If you're new to the brushless scene, you might want to check out Serum's information thread; it has a lot of useful information. And to do what-if scenarios for various gearing on a specific vehicle, you can try this page out.

Feel free to ask questions, that's what we're here for. :)

jaejw1 04.30.2007 01:09 AM

ok cool.. well im not completely new.. i have been racing for about 2 years now.. and have been racing my brushless mini for almost a year.. racing against 10th scale cars.. this is the reason for me wanting to get the crt.. it is small and im sure i can race with mod trucks at my track,, since my mini although able to keep up with any mod vehicle on the straight , has a tough time keeping pace in the infield.. so i wanted something more competitive..

im currently using airplane motors for my vehicles.. great planes ammo 28-35-3900(3900kv) and the multiplex permax 400/4d (5200kv) i think they make these in 540 sizes and would be just awesome in this crt..

BrianG 04.30.2007 01:16 AM

Unless you already have an ESC and motor in mind, most people are using the Mamba Max system. It's an "S" size 540 can, and the controller is good for 100A, up to 4s lipo (or 12 cells NiMH), has great programmability via PC, and is small. If you plan to use that ESC, but with a different motor, check back here first as the MM seems finnicky for certain motors. It runs 2 pole inrunner motors just fine though.

I have some pics of my CRT.5 with the Mamba Max system installed if you're interested (the "BL Conversions" link in my sig - last entry on that page).

jaejw1 04.30.2007 01:24 AM

yeah i have been looking at them,, i already have a novak gtb 5.5 but im thinking with the gearing the 5.5 might not have the torque to turn the wheels like it should.. i had it geared at 18/87 in my 2wd truck i might just keep that esc and get a lower kv motor just dont know which.. 13.5 ,, 10.5,, 8.5,,7.5 all the choices to make..lol. what is ideal i know 13.5 is more like a good stock motor.. ,,, basically what final drives are needed.. what is the internal ratio of the vehicle

BP-Revo 04.30.2007 01:47 AM

If you plan to use a Novak system in a CRT.5, I'd run the 5.5 or 6.5. Probably the 6.5, as its better suited to a heavier vehicle - the CRT.5, despite its small size, is actually heavier than the average 1/10 scale.

gixxer 04.30.2007 02:23 AM

I am planning on running novak 7.5 in it. I already have the 7.5, 8.5, 10.5 and 13.5 motors. If i didn't already have the motors I would probable buy a 6.5 as bp suggested just because its a 4wd car and should be able to put the power down.

If your looking for info on brushless conversions you found the place here on the RC-monster forums.:017:

If your looking for a bolt in mount I would wait for Mike to get his mount and spur done if you want one now your going to have to redrill some holes in the chassis and use the Kyosho plastic spur see "Ricemans" post on doing this mod or find a hardened pinion? You can get the Mamba Max motor and ESC for around a 150 bucks I need to find that link?

I found the weak spot in the front end today at my friends MX track jumping a 20ft dbl jump I broke a front camber turnbuckle I found a screw that fit and cut it down to get it going again and lawn darted it later and broke the C-hub and upper camber link.:002: If you dont want to be sidelined I would recomend getting some spare turnbuckles and plastic parts to be safe.:032:

jaejw1 04.30.2007 12:22 PM

do they make alumn knuckles for it

IBJAMMIN 04.30.2007 06:00 PM

There not out yet I see in the back of the instrutions that Jammin is going to have lots of aluminum upgrades. I'm sure the aftermarket companys are going to get some aluminum part's out there but nothing yet?

I'm going to stop by the hobby shop and see if I can find some better ball ends that are stronger and less brittle? If I cant find anything better I may try boiling the parts to soften them up a little and see how that works. :)

That is exactly what I am doing. Once my rc18mt sells (on ebay right now) I'll buy the CRT.5, and then just hope the mount comes very soon.

Yeah I know about that I thought you ment you can buy them now. :(

RC I do that with all my new cars take em out and see what breaks find the weak spots and fix em before I get to the track. The CRT.5 fly's great the balance is very neutral and the handling is very impresive with the battery mount and motor mount there is almost no chassis flex even the onroad handling is great. I'm thinking about picking up another one and basicly do the samething I did with my RC18B with a 4s or 5s lipo and a proper motor for a worlds fastest 1/12th scale RC car? :005:

jaejw1 05.01.2007 12:20 AM

believe it or not but the crt.5 and the vendetta ST share the same driving and flying characteristics,,,, just on a larger scale ,,, thats the main reason why I want the crt.5 brushless

Pierre 05.05.2007 03:14 PM

i want the same :043:

IBJAMMIN 05.16.2007 11:30 PM

Here's an update I found a Neu 1506-1Y 5500kv motor for the CRT.5 time to see what a high end motor does compared to the Mamba motor?

I just got a Eagletree micro logger with a brushless rpm sensor and 2 temp sensors I'm going to try and get some good data on the Mamba before I install the Neu motor and compare the data see where the diference is and if it is worth the extra 100 bucks for the Neu? Hopefully the Mamba Max esc will run the Neu without cogging if not I may try the Quark 80amp esc.:032:

This should be interesting.:005:

BlackedOutREVO 05.17.2007 12:35 AM

U HAVE to make shure all the info is posted here! i bet with caps, and hard wire there will bo NO probs

IBJAMMIN 05.23.2007 06:00 AM

Well I got the Neu 1506-1Y today and got it mounted up in the CRT.5 hopefully the MM esc is going to work? see how it goes tomarrow keep my fingers crossed:013:

I snaped a shot of the motor and battery mount the blue aluminum diff mount is off my CRT with the buggy diff tubes it's 2 pc's and clamps the diff bearing so I can put the diff in and set the pinion & spur mesh with the motor and diff out of the chassis.:027:

I ordered some titanium turnbuckles from Lundsford they dont have a kit yet so I had to piece together my own here's the part numbers if your interested.:017:

#1009 3x20mm servo link
#1069 3mmx2" steering tie rods
#1072 3mmx2-3/8" rear camber link
#1029 4x23mm front upper arms the stock one is 3.5x24mm but lundsford does not have any 3.5mm turnbuckles so I went with the 4mm and im going to open the holes up a little it should be a little stronger I have already snaped a stock one. :dft012:

Procharged5.0 05.23.2007 10:05 AM

Looks good! I'm really interested to hear if your MM and 1506 work well together. Let us know!

IBJAMMIN 05.23.2007 06:04 PM

IT WORKS I just got done running a pack though it and not one sign of cogging the MM esc and the smaller Neu seem to get along. :D

Speed seems to be about the same as the MM 5700 but the Neu definetly has a lot more torque I clipped my mailbox and broke another turnbuckle so testing was cut short good thing is I opened the mailbox and my titanium turnbuckles from Lundsford were sitting inside perfect timming LOL ;)

Procharged5.0 05.23.2007 06:11 PM

Sounds great! Glad the Ti turnbuckles arrivedso timely!

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.24.2007 06:27 AM

Do you have any close photos on how you made the battery strap? And could a 6 cell nimh/nicad battery fit?

Cheers
