Drill and countersink two more holes like so:

If you so choose, you can also drill new holes for the two smaller screws that hold the transmission down. It wasn't necessary for me because I used the aluminum bar to bridge over to the top deck.

phildogg 10.19.2007 03:52 PM

hey bro how does the truck run with the 12xl and 8s? it has to fly.. looking good.
phil

suicideneil 10.19.2007 04:01 PM

Ah, I always wondered what the 2 extra small screws were for in that area, now I understand fully.

I don't know. I still need to buy both the motor and ESC.

I'll let you know how far back in time it goes when I get it running.

suicideneil 10.19.2007 06:11 PM

Hmm, does anyone make a Delorean bodyshell, that would be rather cool, if somewhat bizarre....

What's_nitro? 10.19.2007 06:17 PM

Believe it or not, I want one (I love the movies). I have checked around but I can't find one. I'd like a matching body for the R/C as well.

What's_nitro? 10.28.2007 12:54 AM

Question:

Does anybody know for sure if a Neu motor fits the Rustler transmission without clearance issues? I'd rather not have to buy one to find out.

I'm thinking a 1515/2y/s instead of the 12XL.

suicideneil 10.28.2007 10:06 AM

I believe the Candyman had the Plett bigmaxximum in his rustler once- he had to trim away the plastic protecting the motor due to its diameter. Since you have the FLM tranny though there is nothing surrounding the motor, so the Neu should in theory bolt right up. More useful pics can be found HERE (scroll down a little).

Just make sure the motor has 1/8" shaft. Unless you know where to buy 48 pitch pinions that fit 5mm shafts. If you do then I'd like to know about them.

B15 11.21.2007 06:51 PM

Hes using mod 1 pinons and revo spurs I believe.
The only problem with using a neu (or any other larger diameter motor can) with the smaller revo spurs is going to be gearing it low enough. I would switch over to 32p Jato spurs if you dont already have too much invested in mod 1 pinions, you can get those a little bigger. I adapted a 44t mod1 RS4 single speed spur to the traxxas slipper without too much hassle, that could help as well. Ive also heard that there are bigger MGT spurs that can fit the traxxas slipper.

What's_nitro? 11.21.2007 08:22 PM

The problem is that I need to gear "high" to get any reasonable speed out of a high-wind motor because I have 3" tires on the truck. We're talking close to a 2:1 pinion/spur ratio. Yes, I do have M1 Revo spur gears with the Revo slipper. I have M1 14, 16, 18T pinions, and 40, 38, 36T spurs.

Why so high you say? I want around 35K max unloaded rpm on the motor with 8s lipo to make it efficient. With standard Rustler gear ratios, say 19/87, that's less than 40 mph with 3" tires. I want the small tires to keep ground clearance to a minimum. I don't mind donuts, but I don't like rolls.

snellemin 11.21.2007 09:05 PM

I working on some foam tires for my rustler. They are 3.5" tall and have 2 types of foams as well. Still need to glue them and see what they can do.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/DSCF1654.jpg

What's_nitro? 11.22.2007 11:56 PM

Those look pretty sick, man. What are you using for the foams?

snellemin 11.23.2007 12:45 AM

I bought the foams online. Those are the cheapo ones..10bucks a pair. I have the 20 dollar silver compound as well. I still need to work on some new rims with the outer lips intact still. I'm still seeking a manufacturer for the foams.

But I got them here.

What's_nitro? 11.25.2007 02:27 AM

How exactly do you go about gluing foams? I mean, is there a proper way?

Is that a stock Traxxas spur I see in your above picture, and is it bolted to a Revo slipper?!??!

Also, good idea using the Rustler bumper as a liner for your wheelie bar. Less friction and the Al wont wear out.

snellemin 11.25.2007 03:12 AM

The glue part is what I'm still trying to master. There are so many glues available and I'm still finding out what will work and what won't. But so far I have used 3M #77 and it worked great on the foams. My drill press is working overtime cutting up old rims. So far the tires don't balloon at all, freewheeling at max unloaded speeds. 180 Grit sandpaper is what I use for creating a rounded edge and flat contact surface.

The spur is connected to a traxxas adapter, which eliminate the slipper all together. #3693 is the traxxas partnumber.

That bumper/skid mod works out great for me. I don't worry about breaking little wheels at high speed tumbles. That plastic bumper is cheaper then a set of wheels and bearings.

tashpop 11.25.2007 11:42 AM

just a quick question about you searching for foam setups. have you thought about using the new era 1/8 buggy hex (17mm) conversion so you can use buggy wheels? i know you will lose i little tire width, but the foam tire/wheels combos are very easy to get.

snellemin 11.25.2007 12:15 PM

Oh I looked into those as well. The buggie wheels will just look silly in my opinion, but all that extra weight in adapters would not work out well for dragracing. It might look ok with the extended rustler chassis, hooked up to a XL motor.

What's_nitro? 12.09.2007 09:53 PM

OK then!

Forget everything I said above about all the new setups I was going to use. I have come to a conclusion. :gasp:

MGM 16024 on 6s LiPo running a _________. :na: Any guesses?

I'll give you some clues: I just bought it on eBay not 10 minutes ago, it cost $89 shipped, and this is the last time I'll change my mind - period.

MTBikerTim 12.09.2007 10:32 PM

I don't know but I'm sure it's going to be fast. Nice work swapping the motor to the inside. I don't understand why they don't make them like that to start with.

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 12:12 AM

Thanks. I agree on that last part - they should be made with the motor inward. First off, its more protected than it is hanging out the back end. Secondly, mid-engine cars handle like they're on rails. It works for R/C, too.

FYI - There is a link to the motor I bought in that post somewhere.........................

BlackedOutREVO 12.10.2007 12:32 AM

I win!!! =D

The blue period Gave it away.. lol

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 12:37 AM

Yes, you win. Unfortunately I've run out of prizes.

I couldn't pass it up. Such a good price for that motor! Plus I saw a vid of a Revo with that motor and it sounds soooooo awesome! I like the internal fan, too. It should stay fairly cool.

Haha:party::lol:

Have a link to that vid? I run the orion vortex series motors in my touring cars, and they have the internal fans, and they sound really sweet also:na:

Here: Revo Testing video Caution! 76Mb file! May take >10 Minutes to load!

BlackedOutREVO 12.10.2007 12:49 AM

Loaded up instantly for me...

Sounds awesome! You have that one on its way? lol

EDIT, I meant the one in the vid

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 01:06 AM

That's wierd, must be my media player. Oh well. I downloaded it anyways. Glad you like it. Pics will be posted when I recieve it.

BlackedOutREVO 12.10.2007 01:09 AM

I edited my old post, oops

But you ordered the same one that guy is running in the revo? To put in your rusty? Your NUTS lol!!!!!

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 01:14 AM

Well I was gonna order a 1515/2Y or a 1950/11 for 8s LiPo. THAT would have been nuts. Plus, I didn't want to wait for myself to have $300 to spend on either of those.

:surprised: Anybody order some motor? lol

Wow, that would o been CRAZY! I cant wait to see what this motor does lol:rofl:

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 01:18 AM

Well it's like I've said before. Always leave room to upgrade! :surprised:

I'll tell you what this motor will do --- Mostly donuts until I get used to driving it!

BlackedOutREVO 12.10.2007 01:24 AM

Haha yeah

Whats the voltage going to be?

That is going to be beyond ridiculous. I thought my 8l on 4s in a rustler was ridiculous.

BlackedOutREVO 12.10.2007 01:30 AM

Oooops, I dont know how I forgot that lol, I just read that like 30 mins ago lol.....

Should be fun to watch =)

I hope there WILL be a vid?

lincpimp 12.10.2007 01:44 AM

Ah, the align 600xl. They work well, I had one setup in an emaxx. No problems moving it around on 5s. I still have an align 600l that will go in a buggy or something. You will not have any clearance issue with the flm tranny. I have an flm pede with a plett maxximun in it, running jato spurs and 32 p pinions. Not sure on the size, but I know that a 46t mgt spur is the largest that will fit on a rustler tranny before it hits the driveshaft output on the gear side. You will have to use a large pinion to get the gears to mesh with that align, it is 43mm in diameter!

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 02:18 AM

I have a 40T Revo M1 spur already. Will a 20T M1 pinion mesh properly with the larger motor? I don't have the pinion so I cant even make a guess. The 600XL is 2mm less in diameter than a Neu 15xx. Yeah I'm gonna have a 2:1 ratio on the pinion/spur. That's the only way to get hellish speeds with 35K RPM and 3" tires. :mdr:

Well the 40t spur is 41mm in diameter, and the 20t pinion is 21mm. So you could take half of each and add that together abd get 31mm. That would be the distance between the center of the slipper shaft and the center of the align motor shaft when installed with a 40t sopur and 20t pinion. Take a ruler and see if there is 21.5mm (radius of the align motor) between the case and the motor shaft end of the 31mm measurement. Hope that makes some sense. I have a feeling that it will fit, but it may be close, and require some motor fin trimming!

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 02:27 AM

Guys - I thought I'd make a video for you ahead of time since I know you don't like to wait. :surprised:

Wow, I want to drive that on the street!

Right in front of a couple of harley riders! HAHAHAHAHAHa

What's_nitro? 12.10.2007 02:33 AM

I'm pretty certain you could intimidate anyone driving any vehicle with that thing! Not just the Harley riders! Dare I say even Chuck Norris driving an M1A2!?
