Well here's a first... My wife just came home from the LHS and gave me a set of 40 Series Road Rage II's to replace the bowties with ripped beads that came with the roller. now to get a set of off road wheels. I'm boiling, stripping, and redying the wabash's black now and will mount the tires this evening.

much better!

gtxracer 12.22.2007 11:28 PM

Nice! I remember when I dyed my Wabash wheels when they first came out. I need to get some and dye them black again. Yours look almost identical to mine:

Sounds like its gonna be really nice! You might want to simply sell those shock caps though. I had the same ones and didn't like them at all. They cause ALOT of slop in the suspension.

DickyT 12.23.2007 03:11 AM

hmmm. i might try and shim them then with a small plastic spacer, or use the stockers and sell em.

DickyT 01.03.2008 07:21 PM

goody box came today via big brown truck :D

I will, in April or so. lol. still need lipo\charger, motor\esc, tx\rx. and I'm still undecided on motor esc combo plus the RC piggy bank is empty.

mkrusedc 01.04.2008 04:36 PM

Valentines day is coming. Maybe Cupid  could bring you a nice BL motor wrapped in red hearts. After all Santa brought you tires.

hahaha well put. and my b-day is in march!

Patrick 01.05.2008 08:24 AM

If we're really lucky cc will get the mmm out when they say they will, which will be in time for March.

DickyT 01.06.2008 02:33 PM

I did some wrenching on it this weekend. I still have to tear into the tranny, but it looks a bit different!

look really clean!!

thats going to be one awsome truck!

jnev 01.06.2008 03:04 PM

Loving the black theme. Great job so far!!

gtxracer 01.06.2008 03:10 PM

Yep, that black with a little red scheme is killer. Love the Wabash wheels too.

Ninmaxx 01.06.2008 04:25 PM

The black and red look nice together. Are you going for a red/black setup?(I think would look awesome) IMO I think you should dye the blue rubber, and maybe get the chassis powdered or anodized black or red.

BL_RV0 01.06.2008 04:48 PM

you should de-ano the 23mm hubs. that'd look killer.

t-maxxracer32 01.06.2008 04:56 PM

what color would it be then? chrome?

BL_RV0 01.06.2008 05:42 PM

no, silver just like the chassis.

DickyT 01.06.2008 06:29 PM

I'm going too. I ran out of oven cleaner. I need to get new rubbers if I'm going to dye them. They are pretty shot.

DickyT 01.09.2008 11:36 PM

1 rustler rear red camber link + 2 revo gtr shock ends = matching revo steering linkage!

gtxracer 01.10.2008 12:16 AM

Nice!

squeeforever 01.10.2008 01:02 AM

Is that a camber link or a tie rod?

my error. rear camber link. I just grabbed it from a bucket.

drkros3 01.13.2008 11:04 PM

about the center diff. your going to love it on the track but it jumps better with out it.

team3six 01.14.2008 01:05 AM

Looks very tight! Just my advice on the whole thing, I know money is an issue. But dont be afraid to splurge a little to get the results you want. No one ever said that RC was inexpensive and you went from Blah to WOW in a nice way.

DickyT 01.18.2008 12:23 PM

I just ordered my 17t mod1 pinion an neu endbell dust cover from mike and my 1515 1y from a guy out in Oregon (sorry Mike, I tried to wait).

Team3six, I am splurging on this, that is why it is taking so long. I could have gone the 8xl MM route and had it running already, I have spare MM laying around. here's hoping taht next moth when I get round 2 of 2008 budget from wife Mike has an mgm 16018 in stock!

DickyT 01.19.2008 08:48 PM

Did the tranny work today.

2nd gear locked, I'm trying it with the centrifugal clutch locked in rather than against the pin. If it hold's, great! if not I'l get another disk and redo it. I clamped it in a vice and connected an 18v drill to the shaft. no flex at all.

DickyT 02.10.2008 04:03 PM

It lives!!!

Still missing lipos and an MMM, but it runs! 12 very old and tired nimh and a MM with no ubec. GriffinRu has my MM right now performing his stage 1 mod. lipos get ordered next Friday.

pardon the messy wires, this is just a mockup, they will get cleaned up.

Just go Play 02.10.2008 04:18 PM

What are your initial thoughts on the center diff your running? I'm mostly wondering if seems to unload excessively?

DickyT 02.10.2008 04:26 PM

It was fine on these batteries, but it felt like it was at the end of it's holding abilities. When I have some good cells pushing it I will need thicker fluid. I have 300k in there now. will get 500k and id that doesn't do it, try ofna diff lock lube.

gtxracer 02.10.2008 05:16 PM

What is the stage 1 mod?

I dropped the punch control fro 80% to 50%. The truck run great but the diff is unloading now. I just finished putting ofna diff lock lube in the CD and am on wy way out to test it now.

DickyT 02.11.2008 07:51 PM

15 min run, much better with the CD. it doesn't unload but still has enough give in the fluid that it functions. that ofna diff lock lube is the stickiest stuff I have ever been around honey to the 10th power. lol

I went out:
12 old nimh
mm settings:
Punch control: 50%
motor timing: normal
brake: 45%
1st bar on throttle curve raised to 10%

all other settings at default

14 minutes of dead starts and hard stops and hard corners under power (still under powered) and the fronts showed zero signs of ballooning and it certainly has not lost any handling, amazingly no cogging, even with the crap batteries. castle nailed it with this last update.

I have the suspension pretty dialed in right now, but that will all have to be readjusted when the lipos arrive.

Thank you everyone who has helped me get my 1st conversion drivable. Special notes to Serum and BrianG, I could not have done it with out you guys! . Here's looking forward to project completion. :D

DT

BrianG 02.11.2008 07:54 PM

Glad to hear you got it dialed!

The lipos will have more punch and probably be lighter than the NiMHs you're using so you might have to increase the punch control a bit more to compensate for the added grunt...

More voltage too! They will definitely be lighter. 12 nimh with the voltage of 10 nimh compared to a new 4s 8000 mah lipo pack is just not comparable.

You calculator and my gearing on 4s is just over 40 mph, which is great for 80% of my bashing. 5s pushes it to just over 50.

It feels like it will take even less punch control than I have set now. I'll try tomorrow. Yes I am trying to destroy these old batteries. Revo testing is their last stand ;)

DickyT 02.12.2008 12:17 PM

Friday I am buying my 1st lipo battery for this thing. I only have budget for 1 pack right now since I still need dirt tires and a body.

My question is should I get a 4s pack 1st and get used to the power or should I go straight balls out into 5s?
