Well, the thing I have going for me is time. I planned on building this truck over the winter so I've got a couple months. I feel pretty good about either Castle or Tekin hitting the market by mid February or the start of March.

well i have driving the mugen an the x-ray truggies an both are really good but i just like the way the losi handles. it just feels more planted an turns a little better but when i tried them that was in nitro. couldn't really say whats better when they go electric i just think the losi cause you can move the battery pack colser to the center of the chassis. i seen the new st-rr but dont know to much about them.

I see. From what I've read - the XT8 is not as good out of the box, but has much more adjustability and when tuned right is insane. Like I said though, I don't have my XT8 running yet. :intello:

All of the major brand truggy's are pretty close to each other in my opinion. My JAMMIN was built according to the book & handels great. Some may have more adjustments but if you dont understand all the adjustments your going to get frustrated with your truggy. If i did't get a SWEET deal on my jammin i personally would go with a MUGEN X5T

+1. All the truggies mentioned are great. The driver is what seperates them. We had a sponsered event at my track this year and a local Jammin CRT took the prize over factory drivers. Converting the truggy changes much of their personality anyway. I would suggest you consider going with what your local hobby shop or track carries the most support for, and how much replacement parts are. This aside, I'd go with an 8T due to the offset diff.

I do like my Hyper ST Pro:

- Comes with all upgrades as stard
- Tough as nails (good for my driving ability)
- Turns like a buggy

Well now that I've run my XT8 for the last season I'm even more inclined to recommend it over anything else. It proved very durable, was excellent on turn in, and just flat out hanlded awesome. Every aspect of it was great during races. I would recommend buying the 808 big bore shocks though as I've seen a big improvement over stock.

And if you watch your setup closeley the balance from left to right can be great - even without the off center diff many people tout on the 8T. My system is within 50 grams from left to right and feels perfectly balanced.

Would love to hear someone's experience with the new Associated truggy though - that looks pretty nice. Good luck!

Seriously if you have this Truggy, the greatest improvement you can do (IMHO) is add the 808 shocks, it / they make all the difference in the world.. :intello:

I have been reading and one thing I thought my help you decide is considering parts availability. I have both the X-Ray buggy and just picked up the Losi 8ight-E buggy, while I haven't had time to compare durability I will say getting parts for my X-ray buggy is a pain in the butt. I have a great local hobby shop, but it is smaller and they have to have a certain dollar amount in a order to buy from X-Ray. I have waited as long as a month for a part. That being said though you will likely not need a lot of parts for the X-Ray they are tough. Not saying the 8ight isn't just haven't messed with it to much yet. I also just bash I don't race, I throw that in because I don't know what you plan to do. Good luck let us know what you get.

I usually order from Amainhobbies for Xray parts - only wait a couple days. :yes:

Well I can't speak to all of the others but I can talk a little about the XT8 and the CRT. My first conversion was the CRT Pro and it was a nice vehicle, but I would say the handling was the downside. The XT8 just handles every aspect of racing better. Turn in, bumps, jumps, everything. Now, I can't speak to the new CRT X2 - maybe that takes care of all those things.

Otherwise I would say Xray's quality is just better too. Although I found the CRT to be very durable. Anyone else want to add to that?

I've run or owned the LSP, CRT, Hyper ST, and an XT8. Out of those 4, I liked the XT8 the best then the Hyper ST.

The LSP and CRT are great trucks, but getting a outdated. I wouldn't hesitate to run them any of them as bashers (as they are all built like tanks), but for racing, I'd get the XT8 or Hyper ST. Of those two, I'd choose the XT8 for all the reasons Sower posted above.

to be honest,ever since i completed my e-xt8,all my other cars turned to shelf queens instantly.driving anything else felt like a chore.i owned lsp and cen truggy but tried a couple of other truggies at the track.ive never tried the rc8t yet but it looks good on the track

:smile:I started with an HB LSP which I spent a small fortune on making durable enough to race, upgraded hinge pin holders, better shocks, 17mm conversion etc. and it was pretty competitive but just so heavy.
I changed to a CEN Matrix TR Arena and jsut found that a complete PIA and only kept it a couple of months before changing to a Losi 8T. I've found the Losi very durable, still on the original A arms and about the only thing that let's it down are the rear outer hinge pins. I've now changed these for the Mugen MBX5T outer pins as they are supposed to be stronger.
I also bought a new 8T RR and then converted it to brushless using the Tekno conversion with a Neu 1515-1Y motor and MGM 16025 esc and it drives very well. Nicer to driver than the nitro although you miss the noise and smell. My nitro 8T may not be getting much use in future as the B/L is just so much smoother to drive.
I've never had an Xray but the quality looks very good, I went with the Losi as even here in the U.K. parts are easy to get and reasonably priced when you do need them.
I think most of the better quality manufacturers all make a good product and it will boil down to what you like. Try and see if people at your local track will let you try there truggy's so you can make a comparison. Different people drive in different way's and what suits one person may not suit another.:smile:

I still want to say MBX5-T. It just is truely the FIRST real GOOD truggy released. I feel like the 5T kind of started the trend of long chassis, weight moved forward sort of thing. Mugen kind of started a trend with this style I think, it was the first truck of the next generation of truggs.. Mine has been reliable ever since, I haven't even broken a single part yet.

I'm not saying it's the best as it's my first truggy but i am impressed with the Jammin X2 CRT , quality is up there but can't compare it to anything else .There is no need for any hop ups.
Turns on a dime , accelerates like a scalded cat and has been as tough as nails with no broken parts yet.
Did i mention how it jumps and is so easy to control in the air .
I'm so impressed that i'm turning it into my basher , might break something then :mdr:

Mini LST all the way. No need to do anything to it. Super strong diffs, handles like a dream, and never breaks. Mega powerful twin servos, all plastic slipper clutch and proven tough mini t drive train parts (easily handle a 4wd truck that is twice the weight of the mini t).

Plus there is a huge selection of aftermarket parts to make it even heavier! Go ahead and run maxx size wheels/tires, the diffs will laugh at you. Plus it is super easy to work on, all hardened screws, and oversized ball cups and turnbuckles. No need to even change the stock radio, ergonomics are spot on. Plus with 2!!! huge brushed motors the power is unbelieveable. I personally think it should have a 50% throttle mode for beginner/intermediate drivers. And maybe a test that only adavanced drivers can pass to unlock the full potential.

And it has really great body posts too.

Freaking hilarious - dude you forgot the ultra strong stock wheels that can handle tremendous impact without shattering the plastic center. :rofl:

lol.... you also forgot all the different versions available too! Since the original was so strong and well built, Losi decided to one up themselves by releasing the mini Raminator. That truck is flat out the best mini monster on the market today! Its got a great looking body and those fluffy red wheels make me drool. Plus, who needs two motors when you can have one for nearly the same cost? I think if I sell my XT8 and Neu 1515 combo, I may have enough to buy a Raminator roller.... hopefully.

I am just glad that I am not the only person who is floored by the unbelieveable design of the MLST family of vehicles. Something like this only comes along once in a while and should be part of everyones r/c collection.
