Mike - Can you confirm that there is 5 inches (127mm) of space for a motor?

Here's a picture. 5 inches exactly.

Thanks so much for this!

From that pic, a 2230 would fit. It may be tight with the wires though. Once Mike gets some more kits in stock, I'll let you know. I'll pick one up for my e-baja
|
I just ordered one too. I know it may be going over board but I have a 2215 and ordered a 2230 + a Lehner 3060 to try out on two bajas.
Excellent thread here btw! Thanks of all the pics and info. Much appreciated. |
This thread is going to make me spend more money I shouldn't spend. My 1:1 car is freshly paid off though,

It is true that a Neu or Lehner motor in ideal circumstances may reach 90% efficiency, but this would be in very specific circumstances that will not happen very frequently if at all, and not for sustained periods in typical rc car use. Consider that the motor would need to be in ideal circusmtances, as well as the ESC, batterries, etc. - there is resistance in everything along the way(the gear mesh will cost 1-2% efficiency in power - even more in the tranny itself, the battery connections, wire, ESC, etc. all have resistence that makes achieving 90% efficiency extremely unlikely in the real world)Actual efficiency will likely be very significantly lower. Regarding heat - even if you use 90% efficiency as the baseline, dropping to 80% efficiency(still somewhat unrealistic throughout the run) would double the heat generated(so a 10% efficiency reduction would yield 100% more heat). It is very significant. |
Excellent looking kit Mike! :mdr: This thread has me thinking it may be time to ditch that little 1/8 scale toy I thought was a big RC...

What's you baja 5b bl-setup ?
would a cc-hydra 249A HV esc and a neu 2230 motor on 8-10s be good ? |
^There are 22 pages of discussion & suggested setups & recommendations, especially in the last couple of pages or so- happy reading

Any new vids or build pics?
I am still waiting for my two kits to arrive here in Denmark... |

Gotta love that international shipping... |
Kits finally arrived

The (first) wait is over. I finally got the kits and mounted the first one. I only had little time to do this so I am by no means done. Still missing the batteries (10S config) which unfortunately are out of stock.
Anyway - for this test setup I have the Turnigy ESC, the Castle BEC, 10S batteries, 2215 Neu 750kv, pistix and 13T pinion which will give me a speed of around 64km/h (40mph). This is a test setup and I bought this fairly cheap ESC to test how it works while I wait for the Castle ICE ESC for cars (should be able to handle 12S/160A according to Patrick from Castle). I am also going to build yet another Baja where I will test a Neu 2230 and a Lehner 3060 but only when the new Castle ESC is out. Excellent kit btw Mike - mounting it was a pleasant experience. Great fitting and workmanship! |
