Neu 2230 motor will not fit

I just received my 2230 from Offshoreelectrics to find out that the measurements given was not correct and that the motor will not fit the car.

Here are the specs
- Given measurements:From this chart on Offshoreelectrics website the length of the 2230 1.5Y is 4.7 inches
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/neu-motor-chart.htm

- The car with the kit mounted has exactly 4.975 inches of space for a motor. This should leave enough space based on the above mentioned chart...

- The motor that i received is 5.491 inches long :( This includes the little peace of the shaft sticking out the rear of the motor.

Any ideas where I went wrong here?? Should be pretty straight forward.

Still waiting for batteries here. They were ordered a few weeks ago but is still out of stuck :(

Anyway - did any of you get to test this kit with a bit of driving. Any vids and pics shared will be much appreciated. I will of course do the same when I get mine rolling...

I finally finished it and will drive it this weekend. Decided to go with the Ice HV 160. Here's a comparison with my Savage Flux.

I actually thought about buying that ESC too but somehow I know I'd be disappointed if Castle put out the car version the day after I bought it so I opted to wait a little more.

Two questions:
1. Did you make a flat spot on the motor shaft to get a better grip when mounting the pinion?
2. Do you plan on dust protecting the Neu motor? If you drive off-road you may very well get a stone or gravel into the large gap in the motor.

The car looks very nice and I hope you will post some vids when you get it out!

According to neu motors, the 2230 series is 4,7 inch long too... And its the longest motor they have  Maybe you get a prototype of 2235 ?:lol:

Maybe - but I'm not laughing. Will have to modify stuff to make it work. Will make it happen though...

At thoses motor price levels, you have maybe to contact offshoreelectrics and neumotors support to have a proper explanation about this extra sized motor....

Thom, I did grind a small flat spot on the shaft. For dust protection I'll wire tie one of these Outerwear filters to the rear of the motor. http://www.outerwears.com/proddetail...9290&cat=12439

The Outerwears mesh lets air flow but really keeps the junk out. I've used them on a lot of motors and they work well.
Sorry to hear about the 2230 size problem. I've sent Steve Neu a few e-mails asking him to update the 22XX sizes on his page, but nothing yet.

Electric Eel,
What size motor are you running?

I may give them a call and ask. It is a problem that sizes are not accurate.

Did you do it with a Dremel? I am worried about getting it even. If you could post a close up pic of it that would be great!

As for the Outerwears that is a great idea. I did have a look at their Electric motor prefilters but they are far too small for the larger Neu and Lehner motors.

Let me know if you get an answer from Steven Neu on the size btw. Does your 2220 length match those from the chart?

Here is the motors I'll be testing. Still waiting for batteries so no telling how long I have to wait until I get to try them out.

Have you figured out a way to fit the 2230?

Only way I can see is to dremel away some of the area highlighted in the attached picture. If anyone has another approach please let me know!
