I wish it was just thermal, lots of white smoke came out and a HOT heastsink. It would turn on and operate, but with tons of cogging. I sent it back the retailer and waiting on a replacement. The first one ran fine, but I broke off the programming button.

zeropointbug 05.31.2007 12:59 AM

Oh, right, I forgot you said that. I am a little irritated about this whole thing, I guess it's hard for me to remember stuff at the moment.

Yeah, I could see intense light coming from the end of the quark, and blowing out smoke. I jump for the batteries plugs, I just froze at first, it was buring for roughly 2 seconds until I unplugged them. Who knows how many amps were going through the thing to burn that up so intensely.

I wonder what it actually was that was burning, a flame, or plasma?

AAngel 05.31.2007 01:13 AM

OK, so we need a controller that will run a Nue motor right. What is there? There's the Quark, the Compro, and what else. There has to be something out there.

I, like others, have been waiting for Castle, but I've just about given up on that. Think about it. From what I understand, the MMM controller is ready. That means that they have the software. If they do, then why haven't they released it? They have to have some version of it that is compatible with four pole motors. The only thing that I can figure is that they are afraid that if they release a fix for the MM, then their MMM sales will be hurt. If they are playing that game, I'll be PO'ed.

As for the Quarks, I know that they have a good track record thus far, but I haven't seen it. Is this a sign of a good thing gone to crap? I'm about so feed up with all of this I'm about to grab a Lehner from where ever I can find one and run it on 4S with my MM and call it a day. After all, I went to electric to simplify things, not make them more of a headache.

I'll just have to wait and see. I might luck out and the Neu that I have coming will run ok on the MM.

ZPB, do you have another controller to run? How long was the total turn around time for your last Quark?

zeropointbug 05.31.2007 01:34 AM

Yeah, the controllers are the headache really. I am fed up with this as well, almost every single R/C project I have had, the controllers have be stupid the first time.

My turn around time, IIRC, was 4 weeks. Yup, that is a long time to wait. :025:

At least I got my dimensions for my case. If that will ever take off, if I get a working Quark. I am going to ask them if they can test one for me to assure working order then send it out.

jhautz 05.31.2007 01:59 AM

The Lehner motor crisis will hopfully be over soon. :027: I had a special order Lehner Mike was getting for me and he said it was on the way from Germany now. (4 months later...:032: ) It also sounded like the rest of the motors (or at least some of them) should also be on the way. Shouldnt be too long now, hopefully anyway.

Aangel. Id hold out for the Lehner if you can. They run MUCH better on the MM than the Neu. At least in my experience they do.

Do the schulze contollers work with 4 pole motors? If not are they any good with normal 2 polers like the XL motors? I know Candyman runs his Bigmaximum on a 18.97k- if it wasnt such an expensive setup that would be a sweet route to go.

AAngel 05.31.2007 01:54 PM

jhautz, I've already bought a Neu 1512 1.5Y, but I only bought it because it was a good deal; and at worst, I could run it in a buggy if it doesn't work out for the truggy.

I would, however, like to get my hands on a 1940/8 or 9.

Patient survived the surgery. Will see on Saturday what's gonna happen :)

And quark got bit more color thanks to only big enough shrink tube I had :005:

hahha.. Geeze.. that's just funny lookin' man... hopefully it'll work good... :)

jhautz 05.31.2007 03:53 PM

That is just downright embarassing.... I feel so bad for your poor truck having to wear those goofy colors.

Aangel, I think that the 1940/8-9 would be a great chioce on the MM.

ClodMaxx 05.31.2007 03:57 PM

it looks like wrapped candy, wallot! :)

wallot 05.31.2007 04:37 PM

two 470uF candies :)

one small change - got rid of the ugly plastic that mounts the heatsink to the chassis and replaced it with another part of old alu skid thats already working as heatspreder inside the Quark. little bit of thermal glue and whole chassis + hybrids will work as one big heatsink :) - theoreticaly if the small contact area will do :)

zeropointbug 05.31.2007 07:03 PM

HEHE, looks like the Jokers clown truck. :005: It even matches your body colors!

Hopefully that will work well. About the heatsink thing, it won't add any more cooling that your silencer already has, the temp at the end of the fin tips would be almost ambient temp.

MetalMan 05.31.2007 11:12 PM

I got my Hyper 8 over to the track today with Neu 1512 2.5D and MM. Normally it is geared 18/46 (4s Lipo), but today I geared it 14/44. Cogging occurred MUCH less, but it was still there. Start power was high, timing was high (but not "highest"), punch control at 50%. Runtimes were good (BP-Revo could confirm) with only 5000mah, and nothing really heated up. The motor and ESC were both at about 118 (no fans), and the battery was at 100. This is definitely a good setup :).
