No just bad info - my wife works in research (Shell) and has a fair amt of contact with folks from over there, guess I've been making wrong conclusion about comments I've been hearing (at various dinners and lunches), must not be picking up their sarcasm or something.

When I worked in NY, Albany area, I met people who had never owned a car. That was hard to comprehend.

Gas prices suck. I am currently running my 2000 kawasaki zx12r as my commuter. Exactly 1.5 miles from my house to my shop, but I still save at least 10 bucks a week over driving the f150 lightning (gets about 15mpg in the city, not on boost!). I have a golf cart that needs work, and I may use that to get to work! Not brushless, but it is electric! Only issue is that it needs the esc and 6, 6v batteries at 70 bucks each.

@duster; It might be that these people work in large city's and have an ideal connection to that particular part of town.

Public transport in cities seems to be fairly good- lots of buses, trains, trams even. Its when you leave these modern cities, and head out into smaller towns (like where I live, god help me), that you suddenly discover how esential a car is if you want to go anywhere or travel to work over any kind of distance. Public transport is terribly unreliable and expensive, plus it tends to have the general public onboard *please dont let the nutter sit next to me*. $10 a gallon for petrol, and high insurance + road tax +MoT etc make owning a car something of a luxury Im sad to say. Thankfully I have a backup plan; legs....

Serum, that makes sense, most of these folks live in Rijswijk (think that's spelled correctly) a a few live in The Hague. We want to visit Rijswijk before my wife retires and see Shell's home office. I worked for Shell for 2 yrs as a consultant. After 2yrs, the drive downtown convinced me to say no to another extension of my contract and find something closer!

I just read and watched something on a 100 MPG plugin hybrid Prius, I have one question. They say that it runs the first 100 miles, on batteries and moptor alone. My question is, How can they say total 100 MPG, if the fuel engine is not running the first 100 miles? If this is true, then while not a lie, its a misrepresentation of the facts. I'm not down playing the technology, Just need a clarification on how the milage needs to be represented.

For those who are complaining about15.8 MPG, I drive a 1999 Dodge dakota w/a 5.2 V8 and it gets 13.8 at best in the city and 17 avaerage on the highway. As soon as i can swing it, I want a newer more efficient smaller car, thinking right now about a PT cruiser

I drive about 200 miles a day so I'm glad "petrol" isn't $10 a gallon here!!!!

My Mazda gets mid 20's mpg average, and 27-28 on a good tank. I could do better with a smaller car but this isn't terrible.
