6061 on the ally, I couldnt get hold of any 7075.

mill is an X1, cost me £250 uk, thats about $350 us, the lathe was about the same.

Dang! That's a very good price for a mill. I've been looking to buy one but they were all around $3,000.

little mills are cheap, big mills are expensive, as with a lot of things.

The tooling is usually the expensive part after the intial purchase, you could blow a fortune on the zillions of attachments, bits etc etc. Ebay is a good place to get a nice lathe or mill though- the old antique items are sturdy as you like, and work just as well- I miss my old school's Colchester lathe; weighed a few tons and had a 6 speed gear box that was adjusted by a pair of ring-handle things, beautiful machines... :yes:

Candyman, I have run two low kv motors on lower voltages. I have a 1200XL basic lehner, in an RC10GT conversion, that gets run regularly on 5s lipo's (rough equivalent, maybe slightly lower volt as you are planning) geared to about 40, it runs cool all day and i can get away with smaller cells. I also have played with a 2250/10t (1184kv) lehner on 4-6 s lipo's, it's in a twinforce with a center diff, buggy gearing and a 19/51 pinion to spur. till i broke a C-hub, it never had trouble pulling the truck on MT size knobbie tires to 50+, with wheelie power to spare almost everywhere on the trigger i wanted. What i'm saying is do not discount the 2y Just because its a low kv motor, If its like my 2.5d (1600kv) it has almost as much torque as the 2250 i have and should be able to pull the required gearing

oh yeh, im not writting it off because its low kv alone, its rated for 50 volts i think, so it stands to reason that the peak of 2500 watts will be achieved near that. At 22 volts i'll be getting much less power, more like half. I might do better with a motor that has a peak voltage at 25v or so.

I will test it this weekend, I have it geared for 44mph (20/44) but if it doesnt feel punchy enough im going to switch to the medusa 80mm 1600kv.
