I think I'll try that, Neil...thanks for the idea!

I made mention of it in another thread, but there is a possibility that I will be making top-plates and chassis for the G2 & G3, maybe even the G2R & G3R if I can get some original pieces for measurements, out of thicker/stronger materials.

The reason is because a lot of people have been bending the very thin 2mm top-plates, and some have bent the 2.1mm chassis as well. Because of this, I thought it would be a good idea to make some replacement top-plates out of 3mm 6061-T6 aluminum, 2.5mm 7075-T6 aluminum, 2mm 6AL-4V titanium, and 3mm carbon-fiber (3k weave). I also think I am going to make replacement X-braces as well, out of both 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 aluminum.

I am, of course, going to contact Gorillamaxx and let them know that I do not intend to copy their designs, but just make stronger versions out of stronger materials. I am also going to ask them about maybe getting the rights to make the parts that they no longer produce. How cool would it be to get their original CAD/CAM files?

Anyway, I am buying a new CNC machine so that I will be able to produce the highest quality parts possible, and I actually have access to the highest quality materials for free. They will be scraps left over from previous milling projects, but they will be large enough to make all of the parts I want to make. Below is the CNC machine I am getting.

HaHa that is funny Chad, I was reading the post and I am thinking to myself man I wonder if he can make me a set of VBS Bumpers. I got a set from a dude and they are pretty shabby. I would like a new set out of 7075 or Ti. Then I read your signature and you are looking for a set.

That is a really nice machine you are getting. I hope you do get the rights, might just have to be a good customer of yours. I have two G3R's.

PM me if you think you might be able to make a set of bumpers.

I have a question for you. I had my heat exchanger switched out in my Heat pump for my swimming pool and the whole exchanger tubing was made from Titanium. So I have a roll of Titanium tubing that weighs close to 6-7 lbs at the least. Could this be melted down and made into something else?? Or does it kind of lose it's integrity once it is made into something in particular.

Thanks man

To be honest, I don't know if there would be any chemical changes or not when you melt titanium, but I would have to think it would not be as dense or as strong...unless you used the process in which it is done under pressure to make a true billet out of it.

But, when I do get the CNC, I would be glad to make some bumpers for you.

MiRatlhed 08.27.2009 12:36 AM

That would be awesome man. I would truly appreciate it!! They were hard enough to find a set of just bumpers alone, I got a set of VBS's and they did not have jounces or bumpers so I hunted these down for almost 5 months till I found a set. But they just are not up to the par of what the truck is going to be so I wanted to find a person to make me some new ones.

We don't have a shop around here where I can find that kind of information out so I am going to try and see what I come up with over the winter and find a shop to try it out. Would be cool to find someone who could do it and make me some wheels or something out of it. I would enjoy a nice set of Ti VBS Skids also....haha Them is nice!! lol Mine are aluminum.

Good to hear Chad I look forward to it! :yipi:

Hi, as we speak I recieved an email from George at gorillamaxx stating that the G4 is in stock and are still making parts. Great my build continues.

Chadworkz 09.09.2009 09:50 PM

Yea, too bad they aren't making parts for the G2, G3, G2R, G3R, or the motor-mounts. :(

It is really a pity they stop making them, especially the X brace chassis. IMO, G3R X chassis looks more beautiful than E-REVO chassis. I am still running G3R and making it better. However it is more closer to an antique, since no replacements available now.
