I was thinking either a MMM setup on 6s, or a unique setup... for the price of the MMM setup, I could run a 80MM medusa on 8s with that $100 plane esc.....

I got it! here it is... Get 2 4s 5000 mah zippys. Then a 100a plane esc. I can run the packs in series (14.8v i think) for the 8xl, and hook them up in parallel to run the 80mm or similar motor when i get it. that covers me for now, and for later. mech brakes of course...

Anyone else think that is a good idea? i could just buy the mmm and call it a day, but for only a tad more, i could potentially be running an 80mm on 8s in a savage.... don't know how that would compare to the standard 6s setup... but should run pretty good i would think.

Got that backwards.

series give you double the voltage (what the "s" in 4s means)

parallel will give you double the runtime and no voltage change.

Seems like it could work:yes:

I always get the two mixed up....

I listed the BP 8xl for sale. Seeing if I have any interest in it. If so, might just go with the MMM combo. seems safe, proven, and more then enough power to push a Savage around. Still thinking on that though.

Got a box today! Novak battery trays. They are super adjustable. Need to figure out how I am going to mount them. Also, need to lock the tranny first. Don't want to zip tie the trays on until I get the internals setup. Don't want to drill into the battery tray more then once.

Good choice on the MMM combo.

brushlessboy16 05.05.2009 10:14 PM

Pretty easy to mount them.. IIRC the holes to mount them are on 6in centers.

BB has been trying to pound that into my head for... quite a while now.

Woah, too fast. IIRC = ?

And what about the 6in centers? Guessing you are suggesting I drill the chassis, and mount with screws?

BL_RV0 05.05.2009 10:49 PM

No, mount your motor with snot. Works great!

Alright. I will try to get as low CG as possible, with them as far front as I can...

I noticed stock Flux gearing is 25/44. Seems a bit high. Could that be right? It's what it says in the Flux manual. And I will be running the same setup... (6s, 2200kv mmm)

Go with a 17t pinion for 6s usage, the manual is wrong. It lists the 25t pinion for use with phatline tires for the max speed.

Always Dreamin 05.05.2009 11:14 PM

17/44 is what I want then... I will add that to my growing list on Tower...

Just got to figure out the tray mounting, then just wait for my stuff to sell.

Ok next step: deciding on what battery. It will be a Zippy, 5s or 6s is the question. 4s is also an option. Which will the setup run coolest on? Will my tranny handle 6s fine? The higher 's' i go, the less mah i will be able to afford... I'd like a really high mah 4s. Think that'd be fun. It seems like they still perform great. standstill backflips, and plenty of top end for a big truck like the Savage. Your thoughts on battery voltage?

Frozen72 05.06.2009 10:19 PM

5S it's the best of both worlds...

Always Dreamin 05.06.2009 10:22 PM

That was what I was thinking. But that was originally when I had planned to use the 8xl. With the 2200kv MMM, I might want to step up the voltage. Especially if the setup will run as cool/cooler. Then again, 4s looked pretty fast, and I could run all day long. If the setup would run hotter on 4s then 6s, there is really no point. And with 6s, if I am not using the power all the time (wont be), then wouldn't I just be getting extra runtime?

Quantity vs quality...

Frozen72 05.06.2009 10:34 PM

A 5s and the 2200 would give you just over 40k. I've always been told to aim for 35k so since that is what most nitro engines put out. On 4s it would be like a stock engine and on 5s it would be like a decent or modded engine and on 6s it would be stupid powerful. It's better to have a little less than to much when it comes to stuff like this IMO
