SUICIDENEIL!!!!!!

Damn man, you shoulda told me about this deal! I wouldn't have bought the Hyperion VX packs then for my lawn mower! I never check the general discussion board, I just happen to be browsing around and came across this post.... dang dang dang. This would have owned the lipo's in the mower, cheaper, longer running time, cycle life, and they would be tough to boot in a mower. I am so excited about these man! Seriously, $9000 for my Toyota truck and I would have the same range, if not better than my 30 Yellow Top lead acids, plus they would have much better performance, and dirt cheap in the long run! 75 cents per Watt-hour...... frigging awesome! I can make my electric super bike for cheap now! I want to use a 70hp electric series wound DC motor for it, if not, then a 40hp brushless DC motor system. gigity

Nitrostarter, yah ask me the difference... lol. World of difference for the G3 packs, flat discharge curve similar to A123's I have found. But Nitrostarter, in EVERY other application, A123's are better suited

Better late than never I suppose?

AArrrgg...

And guess what, I am seriously thinking of buying 4 sets of these! Along with another 8s A123 pack I have, I can make a 8s7p pack, or a 8s8p pack if I use my 7s1p Revo pack along with one cell of a couple I have sitting around. That would get me 45+ minutes of runtime, of glorious grass cutting runtime. That's almost enough to do my entire yard.

I should have been on the GD board since the start... I have confined myself to the brushless board up until now.

But, thanks... I guess, for posting this link up. It's made me seriously happy!

Yeah I bought a set. I could tell from his original pics that they were battery take-outs (you could see where tabs were welded on before). I finished tinning all 12 cells yesterday. I have yet to charge/run them.

Have you tested your cells yet? I would like to get 4 sets of these for my lawnmower. Let me know how they perform.

BTW, in the eBay pic, the front M1 cell is actually an OLD M1 cell (notice the thinner darker blue line), like not from a Dewalt pack, but from the developer kits, I would know because I bought a developer kit the first week they were available (3 years ago)... actually still have those cells too in 5s1p packs, still perform as good as new too, go figure.

No, I haven't. I need to buy a charger set up for A123 cells. I have a DTX Ice and an AF 109 Lithium. Neither one can charger A123 properly. I'll get to it soon, I just have to pay the bills first.

The AF109 can be modded relatively easily to charge up to 10s A123 and still maintain Lipo charging capabilities. Lemme see if I can pull up the info for that.

EDIT: Look here:

Only a few $$ for parts, and you have a multi-function charger capable of about 170watts!

What's_nitro? 06.23.2009 06:58 PM

^ Thanks MM. I saw that a while back, I guess I forgot all about it.

What's_nitro? 06.23.2009 08:19 PM

I finished the mod. I know it will work, though I can't test it. The proof is in the math:

3.6/4.2=0.857

Then I attached a 4s LiPo with a resting voltage of 16.36v, hit the switch, and voila:

16.36/18.91=0.865

This corresponds to:

0.865*4.2=3.633

So the A123 will charge to 3.633v/c.

Pics here if you want...

Very cool

What's_nitro? 06.24.2009 07:06 PM

I will. I have ordered the copper braid as well. When it gets here I'll start building the packs.

Are you guys sure that all A123 2300 mAh cells are the same? I believe that's not the case. The ones with the thin solder tabs probably can't deliver the same current as the ones without solder tabs. I'm buying mine assembled with high-current connections from the European distributor.

What's_nitro? 06.24.2009 07:27 PM

They are the same lithiium-ion phosphate cells. If the tabs are thinner they may have come out of a different battery pack than the others. Just solder directly to the cell (remove the tab first) or solder an extra piece of wire in parallel to the thinner tab.
