Ditto. Some portion of it needs to be donated. Perhaps a different non-profit charity every time we have a raffle?

I did something like that back then too. I had a car audio amplifier that was new in the box that I decided to raffle off on a forum. All of the money collected in my paypal account was donated directly to the Red Cross. Several manufacturers decided to pitch in with products too, so there were like 6 items total that were raffled off and we raised something like $1200.

I like the idea. But there should be something like 50 (or 100/200/300 if there a so many people interested in it) numbers which people can buy. (One per person per raffle)
And there should be 3 gift cirtaficates to win. For example: The first one 200$, second one 100$, and third one 50$. Or something like that...

Let's keep it simple. The original idea would do for me. If we must do a charity, I say kids over animals. Regardless how you feel about welfare, drug addict etc, kids do not have a choice to whom they are born.

Also I have no problem if the person running it participates. To me this would be more like an office pool plus to most it's only $5.

I think the 50:50 or 75:25 idea is a pretty good one and can save our butts from any types of consequences...

Count me in.

Even though I'm in his boat as well... I never win.

Why not consider keeping it simple this first run and if the participation is enough to warrant a charity contribution then there will be a (hopefully) a sizable amount to give ?

Fast5sRevo88 07.17.2009 12:50 PM

I say we should donate to help animals on every other raffle and help kids on every other one.

I kinda agree with this. Charity is nice and all, but let's see how this first run goes and then plan from there. If only 30 people contribute at $5 each, that's $150. 33% to charity would leave the certificate good for just under $100, which doesn't even cover most ESCs or motors.

And as far as using "gift" for PP so they don't charge the fee: I wonder if they will catch on if so many people are contributing "gifts" in $5 increments?

Arct1k 07.17.2009 05:06 PM

If it does not got any kind on charity component then personally I'm out... I'm more than happy to put the time in for good causes (pizza castle, T's, mike xmas, paralyzed, RCM monster bash charity raffle etc) but this just doesn't have that element...

I look it as a 20X return on investment turning $5 to $100 which should enable you get get an ESC and $50 to a charity that had $0 to start with...

Do they do anything with the donations for your calculator? Or how about for the laptop gift that was done?

I think the animal/kid stuff doesn't belong here. You could better give the money to a company like WWF if you would like to help animals or UNICEF if you would like to help children.
This site is made by Mike for selling his stuff (right?). If someone get's the check he MUST have to use it in Mikes store and because of that Mike will make profit from the buyer because he sells some stuff to the Raffle winner.
And I think this should be for Mike, not for animals or that kind of stuff because this site is originally made for Mike's stuff that he sells.

I hope you guys understand it, my English isn't that good

Bondonutz 07.17.2009 06:44 PM

Winners to receive redeemable RCM certificates sounds good by me.
I'm not against the charity but I'd rather see all 100% go to us guys getting something back for all the money we spend on RC. Sorry if it sounds a little selfish.

I don't receive enough donations for them to catch, lol. I may have a month where I get 2, then nothing the next month. That's ok of course, just stating that PP doesn't care when it's at that level. But, if all of a sudden I get 50 X $5 donations, they might get suspicious.
