My buddy Bernard from CT Motorsports here in Miami took home a few records at the recent ISC event, I may look into it with both this and my ta05 :mdr: I need to hit AT LEAST 115-120 with the 8ight before even thinking about it though. If the 2650 has enough juice? Well, only one way to find out. As it stands, according to my numbers, I'm having about a 17% efficiency loss due to drivetrain loss and voltage drop. This is much better than expected, not to mention the temps are staying nice and low. So 115 may be attainable with this setup. This is too fun.

ran 103mph today, but was geared for 118. I'm going to try and find a happy medium, Probably somewhere around 107-112.

i'm done with my speed runs till summer. it's barely above freezing and we got 27 inches of snow last week. :cry:

DCastaneda- Great job on 103mph. Thats pretty darn fast. I think some aerodynamics could push this car even faster with current setup.

Dwight- Got to love Florida weather. you can run nitro year round here (as if I would want to, ha!). 103mph i don't think is a record, I think an inferno GT or someother "onroad" buggy hit 118mph at the ISC event this year. It may technically be an onroad car but its in the same class as mine IMO.

As a side note, the 103mph was on my 2nd buggy, with the rc-monster motor mount and Losi tray. I want to say the Tekno conversion is a lighter setup, but frankly i don't know and the opposite is probably true. Going to tear down and lube everything on the car today, then patiently await Mike to ship me out that 26tooth!

For record breaking runs i have other ideas up my sleeve. If a deal i made yesterday goes through (selling another speed project) I may be attempting an HV setup :mdr:

You sure about that? The fastest electric 1/8th scale there was a Ofna GTP from my neck of the wood. Brian ran 112mph. But he is running a Porsche body which covers the wheels and classifies him in the Electric Modified class. He is also only running a 4cell lipo which is the limit for the modified class. He's running a 1515/1.5D or a custom turned Neu 1515 can with a BIG ole pinion.

Running more than 4s would put you in the Open electric class in which case you would be competing against Nic Case, which I don't see a buggy reaching 160+mph anytime soon...
That why I was suggesting running in the Open Wheel class, which would be the only class you qualify in running a buggy body. Record is on 81.75mph.


Only thing I could think of is some type of cone/wedge shape place on the A-arms to deflect air instead of trapping.

Going to give the buggy a complete tear-down while I wait for my pinion gear to squeeze the most speed possible out of this bugger.

For the a-arms a sleek airfoil shape out of lexan might work.. don't know how much of an effect it would really have though.

I would recommend this for at least the center diff if you can't make your own:

It will remove about an ounce of weight from each diff you put it in and decrease wobble.

I'd try narrowing the hole you need to punch through the air, you could do that with a set a L8ight arms all round

A L8ight front shock tower, with matching front shocks would smooth down the aero at the front also

Edit: I went back & had a look at pics from post #27...I'd suggest losing the 1/8 rear wing in favour of a wing with a longer cord length. You've obviously done the right thing by removing all the downforce elements but I'd be surprised if you're not getting a huge amount of oscillation with such a narrow chord
