Ok ill do that if i can find some aluminum. Im thinking about making a custom skidplate from a rpm skid from a emaxx/tmaxx.

If anyone knows where to get a 150a esc for a good price could you please let me know? I know it sounds kinda dumb but I'm only 15 and have to pay for all my own R/C stuff unlike my rich friend who has $2,000 in a emaxx that he barely payed a dime for and he's still not happy. So if you could please let me know that would be great! I dont have a job so the only money I have right now is from when I sell my 1515.

E-Revonut 06.07.2011 09:58 PM

Your 15, it's time to start looking for a job then!

yzinger02 06.07.2011 10:15 PM

I have but my dad wont let me, i have a brother and he and i take turns working at my dads mechanic shop every week. So if i dont have anything that i have to go to i make $40 on a good day every 2 weeks. If it was up to me id be working every day! Its not like i have a work ethic problem or anything, i have a 4.0 GPA.

8th scale is the wrong place to be if you're strapped for cash lol, especially with the monster trucks. Building my 'budget' Revo still cost me $200+ even though all I had to buy was the chassis (steering/skids/body mounts/screw set/transmission), motor and battery. I already had a full set of extras for the wheels/tires, shafts/bulkheads/arms/hexes and the other electronics (aka the most expensive stuff). I realize that the Revo is fairly expensive so far as monster trucks go, but you cannot really expect to have fun with an MT when you know you can't cover the cost of replacement parts.

That's what I think, anyway. There's been many ESC suggestions, but I only have personal experience with the Mamba Monster. It's guaranteed by Castle to work with all 15 and 17 series motors they sell/sold (151x, 152x, 1717).

Another thing to look at if you're still using mechanical brakes is to use an air-based ESC (ie. Phoenix ICE) with PiStix to convert the 1.5ms-neutral signal to 1.0ms zero throttle the air ESC expects. Radio mixing or a servo Y adapter will take care of the braking servo. A good thing about air ESC's is that their BECs are generally stronger, since they have to support several servos at once. For example, the Mamba Monster has a 3A BEC but the Phoenix ICE series I use is 5A, and it can be adjusted up to 7.0v.

I think that by the time i buy the mechanical brake setup including the servo im better off just buying a land esc. Thanks for the idea though. And by the way i really like 1/8 scale the best for some reason, so im just digging myself into a deeper and deeper hole, but i dont mind because i have fun doing it. :)

sell a kidney or something, and get an MMM.

yzinger02 06.08.2011 07:12 AM

The truck is supposed to ship out thursday, so itll be awhile before it arrives. I think im going to keep both kidneys.

yzinger02 06.08.2011 05:30 PM

Ok ive narrowed it down to 2 esc's: a used MMM or a new ezrun 150a off of ebay. The MMMs are hard to come by, and are a little more expensive than a brand new ezrun. What is your guys' opinion of the ezrun vs the MMM? Thanks!

x-y 06.08.2011 05:56 PM

very good 2 escs ...... I have 2 of each ......... sincerely I preffer the xerun/ezrun but the mmm is great :D

JThiessen 06.08.2011 06:54 PM

Never used an EZRun. But I swear by my MMM's....

brian015 06.08.2011 07:15 PM

I've had good luck buying used MMM's - I have 3 that are working great for me.

yzinger02 06.08.2011 07:19 PM

Ive found 4 MMM combos on rctech but none of them want to sell the esc, so im going to wait for something to come along.

How important are aluminum diff cases running that motor on 6s? I found a good deal on some on ebay. I also made $55 yesterday working for a plumber, so Im looking pretty hard for a MMM.

florianz 06.10.2011 02:22 PM

don't think that they are necessary. go for the important things first.
when you're on a budget, go for a ezrun v2, they're not too expensive. the same for the motor, the leopard are good, especially for that price. here you find the 4082 for 82 bucks http://www.hobbyhot.com/leopard-mode...r-pr-2789.html
