Video coming of my baja running with two actual baja's.
One is a 30.5 and the other has a 28.5 motor. They did start to pull past me on the top end. Defiantly getting a kb motor:diablo: I am very happy with the chassis though, it handled great. They even commented how mine has better handling then theirs.

TexasSP 03.28.2008 06:07 PM

It looks nice, but definitely looks to need more power. Can't wait to see more vids!

MTBikerTim 03.28.2008 08:16 PM

Yeah yours should have far better handling just because it weighs so much less.

Arct1k 03.28.2008 09:40 PM

if you pm mike i'm sure he could make you a custom version of the neu motor plate to go from 30mm to 25mm..

820maxx 03.29.2008 06:23 PM

kyle u can put a lmt 3040 in your baja and it still wont catch mine. come on kyle where the vid of yesterdays run. but anyway its a nice build when i was getting my baja out of the car the yesterday to run with him i did not realize it was not a hpi baja until it made no noise.

That does sound like a challenge that an E-Baja can't hang with your weedwacker-Baja. :intello:

I don't think I would take that bet if I were you :na: cause we all know that it can be done, it's just a matter of $$$$ and electrics always win

lol

We'll see... I just ordered a kb-45 10L. I might run 6s3p a123 with it.:intello: His gas baja is fast, but I like a challenge:lol: Video will be up Monday night.

820maxx 03.29.2008 09:03 PM

i know the power of brushless setups. b4 i moved into largescale cars thats what i had. the mega 22/45/2 he is going to try came from me. its a power house it pushed a 12lb 43" catamaran running on 22 cells to 39mph and was pulling less than 30 amps. my other baja not the black one in the vid he is going to post has a fully ported billet reed case motor that is 27.2cc around 7hp est. so im not too worried right now. plus if one loses ill just try another.

820maxx 03.29.2008 09:06 PM

are u going to turn the shaft down to 5mm or drill the pinions out also if u are running the strobe slipper is found some pads while moving to day u can have.

Ok finally got the vids up. They are short and not very good. I will get better, longer footage when I get my kb45-10L. I am wondering now if I should have just went with a kb8xl instead. Oh well hopefully I'm satified with the 10L. This was my first full run and it did great. I got a solid 20 minutes of run time:yipi: and no breakage at all. http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/k...t=DSCN6299.flv
http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/k...t=DSCN6295.flv

MTBikerTim 04.01.2008 09:58 PM

That really does look like a baja. The main difference I can see is the wheels. I'm trying to get some wheel adapters at the moment so I can run baja wheels on my electric savage.

And yes with a bigger motor and a few more cells possibly I'm sure you can beat the silly weed wackers.

Nice Dude!!!.. she'll move well with the KB45...
How much did your rig weigh? how many cells and capacity on that video...

Looks just like a 5B man... again.. great job..

lydiasdad 04.01.2008 11:08 PM

Thanks. It weighs 13lbs rtr. With a 9xl 20/66 gearing and 6s2p a123. I am thinking of of going 6s3p with my new motor, but thats 18 cells. Or maybe just 7s2p if the MMM ever comes out.

Revracer 04.01.2008 11:11 PM

i looked at this KB45 and really like it. it makes massive power. it be great for my terra crusher build im about to do. itll be my least expensive build ever! but those motors can make nearly 4k watts... which is friggin huge... great for my 12lbs crusher... but they have a 6mm shaft... i dont wanna try to shave the shaft down so how could i fit a pinion onto that?

lydiasdad 04.01.2008 11:17 PM

you can order 6mm pinions, grind or turn the shaft to 5mm or drill out 5mm pinions to 6mm.

aqwut 04.01.2008 11:19 PM

SDP-SI.com has 6mm Modular 1 Pinions... It's just too expensive to ship to canada..

Revracer 04.01.2008 11:21 PM

terra crusher has a 32p gear though... so mod1 wouldnt work for me...

aqwut 04.01.2008 11:36 PM

I think Mod 0.8 works with 32 Pitch...

Attachment 5715I'm taking a stab at a brushless baja right now ....I just finished the rolling chassis and will be shipping it to mike for full conversion in the next week or so, I got over 2 grand just in the roller.

BL_RV0 10.27.2008 11:25 PM

Whoa. What a beauty!! This is worth starting a new thread for, BTW.

Unsullied_Spy 10.28.2008 01:11 AM

What driveshafts are you using in the 5E? Hopefully not the Traxxas shafts, you'll break those things in so many ways...

MIP cvd's. I was actually going to update this post beacuse I just got my MM. It's going to run a kb10L with 7s2p a123. I'll post picks and a vid when I get it going.
@coolrunnings Very nice. Can't wait to see it finished.

anson 12.11.2008 04:02 PM

Just found this thread linked from the other 1/5th conversion, looks really good! Have there been any upgrades since?

I was planning on selling my hopped up maxx, but I think I will have a shot at doing a 1/5th conversion. Looks like a lot of fun.

still sorting out the diff. I have the MMM and a kb45-10l and will be using 7s2p a123 cells. I plan on posting an updated video when I repair the diff. Thanks for the complements

BL_RV0 12.14.2008 05:26 PM

FYI: Someone fried a MMM V3 on 7s a123, I wouldn't risk it, just run 6s2p.

lydiasdad 12.15.2008 01:32 AM

7s2p a123 is the same voltage as 6s lipo. The fact that it failed most likely had nothing to do with running that voltage.

SpeedAssault 12.15.2008 05:23 PM

Hey that is really Awesome !

must pull some quick speeds or wheelies
It turned out really good :surprised:

I'm kinda doing the same large idea
onroad and offroad rally car

MTBikerTim 12.15.2008 10:25 PM

Woot. Can't wait for video.

2 turnigy 100a hv esc's @$200
2 dc9360 for 10s2p a123 @$200-250
.

GOOd Lord :surprised: :gasp:

That's crazy fast

Do you have pics and info on these parts ?

I'm watching this one
I have a custom build that needs a lot of power

i am in te process of making a very similar buggy using emaxx chassis components. My chassis will be a welded steel tube affair, with lots of cross bracing and a solid skid in the center.

I am still in the design phase and an trying to get a good chassis design figured out. I may even fab up a sheet steel box section that will run from the front bulk to the rear, and then weld some outrigger tube sections to that. Or it may be all tube with a sheet steel center skid (prefered design).

I am going to go with a 4wd setup most likely, and use a center diff. That way I can have fornt and rear mech brakes and use a kb45 motor on 8s-10s lipo. Need a big motor to move this beast around!

I also have a different All4wd creation and looking for a good power plant and what to use for center diff and if do a front diff ?

lydiasdad 03.18.2009 09:38 PM

I know i said this before but new vids are coming soon, I promise. Its a lot faster with the kb-45 8l motor instead of the wanderer 9xl and I got the flm 7075 diff cup. So far the diff is holding up after 5 or so full runs. I think i'm going to get a kb45-10xl motor as it's slightly over geared as it is. With 200 less kv and more torque I think it will be the ticket. Thanks for the complements guys.

BitHed 03.18.2009 10:40 PM

...brilliant...very well done...you took the project right out of my mind :D (sing it like Meatloaf would ;))

...Savage version anyone? :D

KMN 05.18.2009 03:46 AM

Bringing up an old thread, but after reading this, I just ripped off my son's razor scooter for the chassis.

Mock-up has started. Nice job on the 5e. I hope mine turns out half as well.

...Tim the new Savage 5T will have these included...Allows you to run baja rims on savage axles with dedicated HPI adaptors...coolies...I am looking at running them on my BL savage too...trying to get the roller down light enough so that i can justify the weight...The front tires (narrower) llok to be better than the rears too...The rears are really fat...

...slightly off topic so back to regular programming...Any updates on this build?

lydiasdad 05.19.2009 11:27 PM

There are updates. I replaced the kb45-10l with a kb45-8xl. I haven't tried 7s2p yet, I'm still only running 6s and I'm happy with the speed. I'm messing with timing and gearing as my motor temps went up after the motor change. I think I'm under geared. I lost access to the video camera but I'm trying to get video of it. Overall I'm very happy with it.

gyn77 07.24.2009 07:51 AM

News about this project?

coolhandcountry 12.23.2010 07:54 PM

Any updates or new pics?

lydiasdad 02.02.2011 10:56 PM

Sadly, havent done much with it to be honest. I fried the MMM running 7s2p a123. I was much happier with its speed before the controller quit. I couldn't be happier with the build, very solid. I did purchase a 10s controller over a year ago from lutch. Havent even tried it yet:oops: Plan on running it some this spring. I will get pics and vids up sooner or later.

lydiasdad 02.08.2011 01:02 AM

Thanks coolhandcountry for getting me back into this project. I have a tendency to jump from project to project. I ordered a new pinion tonight so should be running soon. I thought I would post some better pics also. Video when i get the pinion.

Lutach's 10s speed control with kb45 8xl plan on running 8s2p a123 until i get big boy lipo's this summer.

The tank like Great Assembly front bulkead with ti skid plates
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/pict...&pictureid=819

Shows how old this maxx was. Most the al parts are hardcore racing. The al arms are the original narrow width, ti arm extensions bring them out to "wide maxx" width.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/pict...&pictureid=820

The front arms are plastic (normal width) for durability. Used the extra set of ti arm extensions on the front to widen it. Carbon tube steering links.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/pict...&pictureid=817

I do plan on either replacing or at least de-anodizing the shocks.
