But if you make an adapter the caps start getting away from the board and deminsh their function...

It's a compromise but i think I'd shorten the CC power leads to an 1" and then direct solder the leads together...

All depends on your tools and soldering ability....

If BrianG is listening this is a good time to jump in!

Takedown 07.02.2008 05:36 PM

Ya thats why I shortened the one side of the cap board way more than the other. Direct soldering 1inch away from the MM's board isnt a bad idea.

Arct1k 07.02.2008 05:38 PM

What is the total uf of the board - are they 25v or 35v?

Takedown 07.02.2008 05:56 PM

Beleive it or not its a 330uf 50v board with 6 caps. I tested it a few times and I am very pleased with the results of the temp decline on the MM.

BL_RV0 07.02.2008 07:09 PM

Yeah, the power wires on the MM are going to be very short.

BL_RV0 07.04.2008 12:14 PM

Little update- got the MM and the RX in the mail! :yipi: Got it mounted, but as some of you know I got a dud Castle Link, so I am going to go to the LHS tomorrow and see if I can trade it in. :grrrrrr: So, all I have to do now is have a soldering party and get a new Castle Link, then I'll be ready to roll! :yipi:

Arct1k 07.04.2008 01:05 PM

MM doesn't use castle link...

BL_RV0 07.04.2008 09:58 PM

Well, the software doesn't work on my computer, says that there is no controller of an invalid controller connected. Stupid.

verynice!

BL_RV0 07.06.2008 11:25 AM

Thanks!
I'll probably get a video on wednesday, if not sooner.

Takedown 07.06.2008 01:21 PM

Finally the end of this build! Cant wait to see it in action.

BL_RV0 07.06.2008 03:13 PM

Neither can I!

Arct1k 07.06.2008 04:39 PM

Doesn't look like you've got the front brace in yet - Any issues with MM on 5s?

Where is the cap board?

Those are Very long motor leads...

BL_RV0 07.06.2008 06:32 PM

The castle software doesn't work still. The cap board and BEC are on the other side of the MM. Check out my new thread in the General Discussion forum and see if you can help.

BL_RV0 07.06.2008 07:21 PM

Got the castle programming to work. Plugged the balanced and charged 5s into the MM- instant toast. MM is dead. Completely. Now, need to wait for the MMM to re-release.

TDC57 07.06.2008 08:10 PM

That sucks... Sorry dude...

BL_RV0 07.06.2008 08:11 PM

Yeah- hopefully it is really late july. We'll see.

Takedown 07.07.2008 08:08 AM

So tell me what exactly happend to make it just randomly poof...?

BL_RV0 07.07.2008 10:59 AM

Well, I was plugging in the battery, instant smoke. Before I could even get the battery all the way plugged in. I have no idea what caused this.

Arct1k 07.07.2008 11:38 AM

Odd my MM took 8S by accident and did nothing - I plugged it in twice before I realised I was using the wrong adapter...

Still runs fine... Normally the MM has good over voltage protection - You might need to check your wiring before plugging another one in...

BL_RV0 07.07.2008 11:41 AM

Even if my wiring was wrong, there's nothing I can do.

BL_RV0 07.08.2008 12:00 PM

Teeny update:
Just got notification from TD that the MM is going out today.

Takedown 07.08.2008 12:03 PM

Ya, Ill see if I can get it shipped here within the next couple of hours.

BL_RV0 07.08.2008 12:15 PM

Arct1k 07.08.2008 12:34 PM

The one that went up in smoke or a new one?

BL_RV0 07.08.2008 12:43 PM

New one. Other one (smoked as of now) will be sent into Castle in a couple days and will be for the MBX4-RR.

Finnster 07.09.2008 11:11 PM

I don't feel like starting a whole another Hyper ST thread, so I'll just throw a couple pics of mine up here. Currently it has my old 8XL and my MM from my CRT.5 currently powered by 4S 5Ah TrueRCs. Plan is to change over to a MMM and a Neu 1515 2.5D and adding a cell to the batt for 5S. I can ditch the BEC and the extra wires for the fan and the bec power supply then as well and clean up more. I have it geared 12/46. On the mashers tonite I was pulling 45-46 mph on radar. A bit too fast for the track. Here's to the MMM coming out soon.

BTW.. I don't know why the paint looks sparkly. Its insanely humid out, must be water droplets. I also already managed to lose a wheel nut and had to use a spare  Lots of loctite on that one. :)

You should be closer to 38mph unless you are getting .5" ballooning...

Differential Ratio: 3.909090909090909
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 12
Total Voltage: 14.8
Motor KV: 2084
Tire Diameter (inches): 6.6
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0.0073
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 3.83 : 1
Total Ratio: 14.98485 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 20.73 inches (526.66 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 30843.2 RPM

I prob am, def even more so in the F under WOT due to the light fluid in the diff. I admit it was much higher than I expected, but I ran it several times back to back with the radar gun and it was consistantly 45-46mph.

Arct1k 07.10.2008 11:35 AM

I went for about 20k in the middle...

BL_RV0 07.10.2008 11:45 AM

Yeah. Problem is, all I've got on hand is 7k, 5k, and 1k. I'll probably do some testing and see what i can come up with. I'm currently running 5/5/3 diffs. Going to change out the center oil tomorrow. Nice conversion Finnster! I really hope my MM gets here today, so I can test this beast! How long did it tke for you to lose your wheel nut?

Arct1k 07.10.2008 11:48 AM

5k is too light for brushless 10k is really I think the min

I would put the 2.5D in and run the 18... You will be a little faster than me but should be manageable and much better than that 8xl

Finnster 07.10.2008 12:24 PM

I got 10K in the CD and its too light. next stop was 20K and see hwo it does.

The only thing I need are more 5.5mm bullets. I meant to order w/ the 2.5D but forgot. The LHS doesn't have them, they are on backorder and won't be here till the 21st. :(

I may redo the motor, but its such a PITA. Seems like even the 14T would gimme 35mph or so would would be fine for track

Arct1k 07.10.2008 01:09 PM

I think I may have a set at home - I can post them to you if you PM your address.

You can send me a set back when you get them - Do you just need three female?

Worst case can just fit them on the 20th

BL_RV0 07.12.2008 12:03 AM

Got the MM in the mail... Castle link won't work again. :diablo: I gave it a 2min run anyway and destroyed the bore reducer. Also chewed up my pinion pretty badly. Still usable, but it won't last more than ~10 runs probably. Not a very good day...

moneybagsfor-rc 07.12.2008 07:26 PM

Do any of you happen to know where I could buy a replacement (or replacements parts) center differential for this Ofna Hyper ST? I need one for a little conversion of my own.

Thanks guys

tc3_racer_001 07.12.2008 07:49 PM

same as the hyper 8 buggy im pretty sure, or very similar. just the way they are mounted. but dont trust me on this until someone confirms :)

brushlessboy16 07.12.2008 07:49 PM

BL_rv0 you might as well just ship your MM's out to people to get them programmed :D

tc3_racer_001 07.12.2008 08:07 PM

u got public libraries in your state? if you do just use one of them with a usb with castle link on it :)
