I am simply stating that alot of people think that all nitros with the same size engines have the same power output or the same reliability. Well its just like comparing a hand made neu or a pletty big maxximum to a hobby city motor. There is no comparison Right? The neu and pletty's are made better more efficient last longer and probably make more power. We all know this thats why we spend ~$250 instead of ~$50. My first nitro engines were the tiawan made traxxas engines and my first big block was a chinese hyper .21. These engines were both hard too tune and were prone too air leaks. They did have power when sealed & tuned properly(TRX 2.5 did awesome wheelies & hyper .21 did standing back flips & went ~55 mph 7 years ago) but neither was more user friendly or was easier to tune like an OS engine. OS engine are just made better for some reason they last a long time hold a tune and always have power. You really shouldnt judge somthing unless youve experienced it with good quality products. Basically you get what you pay for just like ecm's lipos and brushless motors.
Remember, I wasnt the first to challenge anyone I was merly trying to defend nitro for it good qualities. . Quote:

Got a bit of a story from today's run.
Went down to a local BMX track with a mate, his BL Revo, my CRT & buggy. We were burning around doing some jumps over my jump. A guy rocks up with his little 1/10 nitro buggy. Didn't even think to ask us what frequency we were on (both Spektrum anyway) & then just drove around the footy oval on his own while his mates watch out silent rockets tearing up the grass. They all ended up walking past after we'd packed up try to get a glimpse of what was so fast & silent. Hehehe. Love it. Rivermaxx, OS engines aren't that good. They have a short lifespan for their ease of tunability. You should've mentioned engines like RB, Novarossi, GRP, JP & the engines in the upper classes. I've owned run & raced with all of those & the one I stuck with was RB. However, I now have $1200aud worth in two engines sitting in a box because I wanted to go even faster! :-) |
Don't be a hater.
Hey RIver don't be too defensive about this. There are a lot of teens in here that have bailed on TRX and they just like taking cheap shots at anyone who speaks out about nitro. The majority of us in here have enough matority to know that it all has its good and bad points nitro or BL it really does not matter in the garnd sceme of things. We mostly run the BL stuff here and really just don't care that much about the nitro stuff. Still there are a select few who run both and seem to find a happy medium as I am sure that you will to. Life is too short to waste time engaging in sensless mumbo jumbo. The real test is on the race track and bashing wherever we can. Enjoy your conversion experience and just have some fun. We are always glad to see someone new at RCM doing what you are doing. Good luck.

I got into Nitro because it was chalanging to tune and perfect my nitro rigs performance. It doesnt suck though. It for me is just alot easier than the hastle of starter box, fuel, glowstarter, tuning tools etc.Nitro fuel is very Toxic and the exhaust is highly toxic also. Not to mention I have 3 daughters that like to play with my rcs now because they dont smell funny and make their eyes burn.Besides Brushless/Lipo provides massive power with great run times.I have a NT18 with a picco p 0 that is a blast to drive because it is nitro.

Thanks Jerry, No hater here. I just dont like people talking crap and not be able too back it up. Somebody got to defend the black sheep on the block especially if it cant defend itself. Its just my nature I guess. Besides I like having a debate its a good way to view a persons character and their point of views. As far as OS engines I personally have put about 5 gallons through my os.18tm and it sill runs like new I have heard them go as much as 10 gallons without a rebuild. It might not last as long if your tuning abilities are not refined. Brushless seems to be easy plug and play maybe a gear change for differnt voltage. Nitro is a little more challenging and takes a little more tunning abilities to make it perform its best. Maybe its just me but I like that challenge. I tell you what tuning a model nitro aint shit compared to tuning and syncing two dual carburated 1100hp each blown 572's in a boat. This is a vid of my other hobbie building engines. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...icsboat019.jpg

Sweet!!!!
Hey RIver is that your boat? If you take waterskiers out I would love to hang out with you some time. That is one fun looking EXSPENSIVE toy. Something you said made a light bulb go off in my head.
I want to say up front that I am on the electrical side of this hobby for two simple reasons. With all of our international traveling it is just to complicated for me to mess with nitro fuels, so I steer clear of that. The second is that I know how simple it is, and I did not want this to be a painful experience for me in my retirement years. BUT what I was just realizing is that a lot of the kids in here probably go the electric route just because it is easy, and less complicated for their level of knowledge hence "Plug & Play". The other thing I wanted to mention about some of the low blows you have been getting is just some of us having fun taking jabs at you for being the new Nitro guy on the site. I don't think anyone means to be mean to the nitro guys. It is just good clean fun. I think you are going to have a lot of fun in here once you establish yourself. Another day of R/C is a good thing. |
Electric, just like nitro can be both easy and difficult. Consider a vxl rustler and a nitro rustler. Both are simple entry level vehicles, and they are really easy to use. Run decent sidexside nimhs and the vxl will have similar performance to the nitro rustler. With the easy start setup the nitro rustler is simple to start and run, plus you only need to carry the ez start and a screwdriver. If you want more performance you can throw a bigger motor in the rustler, like an os .18. If you want the vxl to go faster, a 3s lipo will do the trick.
As far as nitro goes I am not really a fan of the noise. I do like the ability to refill the tank and keep playing, and my racing friends say that keeping the engine running during a race is one of the main parts of the competition. Just as Jerry says, some people like electric, and others like nitro. Alot of the guys here are craftsmen, and I believe that electric has more opportunity to make and modify than nitro offers... I am not that familiar with custom nitro projects, or a forum dedicated to them, so don't shoot me!!!! Electric will always have the edge on speed, due to the larger useable rpm range and low end torque that allows for more aggressive gearing. As battery technology continues to improve electric will get even better. I do see that nitro can be tuned and modded to make more power, but the motors will have to get forced induction and fuel injection to improve and match electric. And the fuel will most likely have to change too... But as long as you are having fun, who cares what you run! For the last few months i have been playing with crawlers, and they can barely do 10mph!!!! |

Really, I think the only reason why nitros became popular in the first place was because back in the day where NiCDs/mech speed controls/brushed motors were the norm, nitro was the only way to get serious affordable power in an RC. With highly efficient and powerful brushless motors/ESCs, and better battery technology in the market, the power advantage is shifted the other way. And the only argument the nitro guys can come up with is the "realism" factor and smell, both irrelevant to me. There's nothing better than having a little toy go from 0-60 in like 3-5 seconds and the only noise is the whine of the motor and gears. Now, if they had the low growl that muscle cars have, maybe I'd try that... Just yesterday I was at the LHS and some guy spent literally 1/2 hour trying to get his Revo started outside. By that time, I would have already played through a pack or two. |
By that time.
Just yesterday I was at the LHS and some guy spent literally 1/2 hour trying to get his Revo started outside. By that time, I would have already played through a pack or two.
__________________ yea by that time I would have parked it just under the front tire of my van and run it over a couple of times and then handed it over to the store owner and told him to start selling BL. Then I would have just bought an E-Revo and got it over with.:rofl: |
Jerry, you should have schooled that guy. He'd probably ditch his nitro revo for brushless :lol::lol:.
Anyway, nitro or electric shouldn't really matter as long as your enjoying either one of them or both. I enjoy them both myself and I'm about to charter into a new territory along with my son; crawling. I just received the Axial AX 10 today and will be assembling it after I get off of work in a few hours :whistle:. By the looks of it, I might end up buying my own crawler if he doesn't let me play with it. Bottom line is I'm enjoying this hobby with my kids even though my wallet says otherwise :party:  |
Watch that.
Yea you really got to watch that wallet desease, as it can kill you. Hey Lito I am also interested in that AX-10. I have not done any crawling, but if James(lincpimp) can do it, then anyone can do it. Right??? I really like all of the aftermarket aluminum stuff you can get for it:yes:. I love the BLING factor myself:intello:, and when you put one of those AX10's together right they look awesome just like the Baja 5b when it is all blinged out:party:. BUT like you said going that route can be very very costly in deed. Post up a thread on your project so we can see how it goes.

I should have placed several of those LOL icon within the body of this post. Instead me of cluttering up the post with a bunch of them. Just take this one  and place it in the spots you think I was going to put them or should of put them. If a sentence offends you that would be where I would put one. When you are done put it back where you got it for others to use.
It took a while to read through this thread only to end up talking about crawlers. So I feel like I need to get my money worth. I own both nitro and bl setups and enjoy both of them. Can't run the nitro in this cold weather. Most are bl setups right now and come spring I will put the engines back on one or two. The trigger and control of them are different and how you drive them too It's funny to find yourself feathering the throttle on your BL after you just got done trying to keep a nitro running. Both are frustrating as all hell at times. Both are expensive but not as expensive as flying, landing, or women or landing flying women. My dogs will chase both types of rcs, but niether has landed a flying women. The neighbors were annoyed with me running my electrics through their yards until I started running nitros through them. They now enjoy the BL setup and sometimes even wave or smile at me (when not running the nitro) when I go by. They were also unhappy about my sudden case of terets (sp) syndrom that could be heard from a few block away I've been told lately. I didn't know I could blurt out so many nasty and volgure words while wanting to kill something that I wished was alive so I could kill it so it would know I was so piss off at it I could kill it. I can assume they were pretty happy when they saw me throw the cause (a truggy with a pos .28) in the garbage. I did retrieve in and put something better on it. Can you guess what it was? It's the thrill of the chase, not the kill for some. Running them both is a challange I found to be as close to having my cake and eating it too (as far a hobbies and staying within the law goes). I have learned a lot from both side of the hobby and have been able to apply what I have learned so far to other aspects of my life. I found some women just don't like to be tuned, no matter how much hotter you think they should be. An iceberge is an iceberg, just run away fast and don't look back. If you've never had a nitro RC and only electrics. It is worth the time to try it. You may like it or you will hate it. You will learn from it and will be able to tell others based on your experience why you dislike the part of this hobby they have come to love. May as well just twist the knife for good measure while your at it. For those who have tried it and hate it. I know what you mean and understand why you simply hate it. Atleast you tried it and can hold an intellegent mature conversation about the pros and cons of the hobby. Some may call you quiters, wussies, or tell you to stay on the porch mommas boys. Hey, you should be use to all the names by now. I doubt quiting is something that comes pretty easy to some. I mean not everybody can handle both sides of the hobby. It takes a certain level of intelligence and common sense to do both. It took me a while before I learned not to look into the exhaust pipe while it was still running. It takes a big man to stick with it but I have to say it takes a bigger man to admit they can't. All my rcs ar fast and I have never felt the need for a video and gps to prove it. I have never felt the need to video tape myself just to prove I don't sit down while I piss either and if there is a women in the house I alway respect the position of the toliet seat. I have been unjustly accussed, tried, and sentenced, of such in insensitive selfish act. I did proved without a doubt it was in fact the dogs that should have had to bear that wrath of fury. I don't even drink from the toliet, and that one time it looked like it, I was giving not taking, some call it praying to the porcelen gods. So I don't know why I was always being blamed for the wet toliet seat to beging with. LOL I plan on getting a crawler too, then we can post those speed runs. There should be a limit to 10minutes per video even if you haven't gone the whole distance yet. I don't need three big couches in this living room. I saw those modular crawling blocks a while back made out of milk crate and well the damn dogs can sit on the floor when they watch tv. I can sit on my ass in front of this pc and run the crawler in the warmth of my living room. Hell I'm paying for the heat anyways. Can't run a nitro in doors though. Guess it will be a BL crawler. There it is in a nut shell, can't run them inside. Winner BL! In case some of you didn't realize I was joking around about some of this post and not all of it. I thought I would mention I wasn't really serious about the not joking on some of it but I was laughing at myself when I read some of it. It wasn't just at your expense either. It was more of at my expense, because the internet may be free but their is a toll for the onramp. So it did cost something to poke fun at all the people out there looking in reading this that are not members at RCM and have no voice to comment. We are not paraniod, we know your watching us and reading what we type! Look there he is again! |
That was a great post Gee. I almost fell from my chair laughing while reading your post.
And you're right about running the crawler indoors. I was sitting in front of my computer setting up the Sidewninder via Castle link, calibrating it, and running the AX 10 from the warmth and softness of my computer chair. |

First of all, Hi! im new member on this forum :) I just wanted to correct some things i seen about me that are incorrect.. When i tested my revo it was for myself, never intended to beat an electric or anything... Im tired of the people using my "record" for arguing , i do it for fun its part of my hobby, i post the video for people that may want to know how to get that kind of speed... Its just toys .... lol At that time i was not an ABmods Team driver yet, and all was done was installing the big block, gearing and tires. Nothing serious :) I never talk about something that may not happen, money can be an issue in RC lol Thats why i posted result once done... What was time consuming is repair the transmission that was failing just about every time igot it out for speed runs :) Anyway, just wanted to put fact straight about that, i read a lot of stuff about me i have no idea where it came from! Finaly im not into that nitro vs electric thing, i run what i like until i switch stuff, right now its nitro who know what it will be next :) Mike |
Mike, welcome to RCmonster!!!!

Thx Georges!:mdr:

Welcome mike.

Do you have a vid showing the whole boat with it at WOT? From what I saw, I like it. I've always been a big fan of big ocean racing boats. Turbine power rocks! |
33' eliminator daytona 2200hp on pump gas, 5 broken drives, way too much torque.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...23-05_1047.jpg My 25'eliminator daytona boat only ~900hp btw its for sale: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...x/CIMG0312.jpg |
Got any other vids of it? Or at least pics of the hull?
Love em. |
Geeezzee.
Those boats are killer. My first thought was how in the hell can he afford R/C with those toys sitting in the driveway? I guess you must be doing ok compaired to most. Life is good?
|
The 33' is not mine its my buddies he owns a limo business and he got a really good deal on the engines from me. When I work I make decent money and I live a drug, smoke and alcohol free life. I work with alot of guys the either drink or waste their hard erned money on drugs or cigarettes and 90% of then dont even own a home.Times are tough right now and the savings is getting hit hard that why I am going to sell the boat. Shoot my buddy is really struggling also he just built a 1.5 million dollar house and can barely make the payments. This recession is hitting hard the area next to the 15 freeway over here is called forclosure alley thousands of homes forclosed on. I bought a home I could afford when it hit the fan most people didnt do that.
