Looks like upload speeds are being regulated to allow for faster downloading throughout.

Actually I don't really know. I pay $156/month for phone,tv,internet combined but I have the best tv package which includes all movie channels. If I had to guess I'd say it accounts for $40-45 dollars of the bill. I recently renewed with them and the speed went from 15 mbps to 35. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

Noice, for $45?
We're SUPPOSED to be getting 10/1 for about $35, but we're getting 20/1
I would love FiOS... Too bad it's way expensive..

At home it's about the same, except my upload is just 2mb or so.

I went rummage saleing today and I got a brand new D-link wireless card for $4. I hooked it up to my laptop and compared the speed to my desktop. The desktop is wired and the laptop is completey wireless.

Why is my wireless laptop so much faster than my desktop? Maybe processor speed plays into it?

Could be the time of day usually, or it could be some setting on the router thats throttling your desktops download/ upload speed- make sure the laptop is turned off when you test the PC and viceversa.

This is my work PC:

Interesting thing is that it is recommended a server in madchester ( not a typo... ) , where as my home PC is directed via Reading. Curious, think its because its done via a Sodeho proxy server ( company intranet bollocks, blocks all the good sites, and now the proxy browsers too  ).

EDIT: Ah, Im on BT at home, but work is Cable & Wireless ISP. That makes sense...

Chadworkz 05.08.2010 03:28 PM

Damn I'll be glad when Verizon get's their hard-lines here...I really want that 25Mb/s!!!

Supposed to be paying for the 10Mbps down 1Mbps up service, so I can't complain.
