http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...&postcount=119 I've used 20-30wt oil with this setup with good results. The lexan piece helps damping as the shock compresses, but allows quicker rebound (due to the relatively light-weight oil). I also use RCRaven springs - they are the best for the LST shocks. -brian |
Quote:
I will have to do some more research on which oil thickness and also which springs I will use. |
I've also used these shocks with the Raven dual rate springs. Very smooth but even though the shaft is 4mm it's not as strong as the stock Flux shock. I bent plenty of those shafts before going back to stock shocks. The other problem is that the plastic caps tend to rip off under pressure, metal caps might help.
|
Thanks for infos..
I ordered GD front shocks :) : http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/en...nt-2-pcs-.html |
One Savage flux A720 = 59g
One GD shock = 129g These are masive ! http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5803Medium.jpg also received Xerun 150A esc...this was faaast. |
Quote:
I also received my Xerun 150 but I am now waiting for the 6.5 mm Castle plugs to connect it to my Castle motors  |
what's the diameter of those shafts??? my losi's are 4mm and for theire size a bit to thin imho. These shocks you have are pretty cheap and look mighty beefy so letme know plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ;)
|
Well i am thinking to go 6mm all over the truck this time, as i got xerun, mxl and few motors but not enough 6,5mm connectors :)
Pietrvds - Here infos Dimensions: Mounting hole distance (extended): 152 mm Total length (extended): 170 mm Travel: 42 mm Shock shaft diameter: 6 mm Body diameter: 30 mm Upper shock hole is M8, i will use 8mm diameter sleve woith inner hole M4... http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/pu...ad7ca3174a.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u.../ShocksKit.jpg Hope Alza dosent have too much work these days and this gets cut fast :) |
Hey Knez, how do the shocks feel coz my LST's are pretty smooth and you kinda feel they're quality but do those shocks feel like quality or just so so....?
kinda wanting to buy beefier shocks and these are cheap but maybe they're also garbage? lolz dont mean to be offensive :) :) |
i saw on the site there are 2 versions of these shocks....? 10 euro difference also...
those you got i presume but the front versions for 19,90euro --> http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/en...ar-2-pcs-.html and those for 29,90euro --> http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/en...ng-2-pcs-.html lol i dont see any difference only in price....???? |
19€ shocks are standart parts for Gas Devl cars...they are identical as 29€ shocks wich are labeled under Option parts for Carson cars. No diference in shocks only in price!
Shocks do look well made and feel good, masive shaft but tests on BMX track will show more. yes, i got front set if you check few posts back.. :) Maybe i would be better with FLM Ext. A-arms and longer rear shocks...anyway.. Could be the stock sping is a bit to stiff/hard... If so i will go for softest springs. Here springs....price is almost same as shocks lol. http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/en...gd-2-pcs-.html Rebuild kit is 26€, so if something goes bad on shocks, just buy another set and viola..spares if ever needed:) |
haha crazy shit on that site but its still cheappppp if they're holding up to the abuse and dont leak :)
I think i'll go for the longer shocks with 14mm more travel, when i'll make my extended arms they'll fit better i think. And indeed it looks better to buy an extra set of shocks to repair them :))) Just letme know how they hold up though before i order them ;) cheerz! |
Will report, just waiting for alza to cut me the kit for shocks.. hope he is not to busy and can do it this week.... i want it a.s.a.p....but it is not up to me :)
Hope there will be no leaking around the shafts. That would be way cool, longer shocks with ext. a-arms :whip: For now only option is FLM or KD... |
i mailed to Kershaw to show me some better pictures of their extension kit coz you don't seem to find any pics and on their site it's kinda &é"*é"'! lolz
Hope he sends me some bics but people don't seem to use them otherwise you should find some pics of them online but...it's a mystery for the moment :) For the shocks, indeed i hope they don't leak otherwise i'll stay with the lst's, they're also pretty cheap and haven't got an y problems with them for the moment. The extended arms and longer shocks...i've been dreaming about them so i decided i'll make them myself and if i got some positive mails they should became reality if not to expensive.... ;) |
hey Knez, i just got an email from Dan of KD designs and he will put some decent pictures of his extended arms design online soon so hope that will be soon ;)
|
ow allmost forgot, are the standard springs to hard for the the 5b conversion and should you order some softer or harder springs?
i'm not a real basher so i like smooth soft dampening for small jumps |
I think i would take a set or 2 of your ext aarms and towers too if it proves to be worth it!
Will check the KD site :) and thanks for info! Well if we are taking about GD shocks than the springs are a bit hard, didnt tested them, but i got a feeling i will have to order softest i can get. Also shocks with no spring...if i put shaft totaly in...it comes out by it self to total extended lenght. If we are talking about flux shocks "A720" i got on these 1 harder than stock, i think yellow rated springs. Small update, I got rid of 6,5mm connectors and now got only 6mm from HK. Also made 4 holes in esc plate and mounted esc directly on. Xerun 150A is great for first test and runs very very nice. Got no card at the moment but cells are on outo cut off 3.2V per cell. Had a great 23 min of run at the night with lights on. I like the size of the esc, small but strong. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5812Medium.jpg Here is how i mounted wing to friends 5b to get an angle for a wing. Cutted 2 long shafts from body mount and made 2 holes wich those 2 shafts where put thrue and secured with body clips..2 Bclips up and 2 Bclips down. We can actually put more angle to the wing (set the wing angle) if 2 cutted shafts are slided/moved more up (out of the towers) or if slided/moved more down (in to the towers). These 2 shafts push the rear of the wing more up in this case. No need for 2 body posts between the body mount and tower as body mount is leaning on the tower ears ( tallest part on towers, where you put shock upper shcerw thrue) Also must say wing is no longer moving, it is secured now. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5817Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5816Medium.jpg FG wing, perfect fit with stock holes. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5818Medium.jpg Me and my english...lol |
Friend ordered 14$ Yeah racing steering kit suppose to be same as mine.. but somehow it was made for oposite side.. like "mirrored" dont know the word.....lol,
we had to turn servo plate for 180 degree and servo and servo arm all because of the steering kit :) http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5808Medium.jpg Bad pic but anway...with lights, lol. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5820Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5825Medium.jpg |
looking good and bright lights! I have 2 sets of baja lights and they shine mighty bright also on a small 2cell lipo.
It looks like that drive cup is getting eaten away ;) I have put the hd cups on it and they still look like new but dont think my car ran as much as yours... Just ordered some rubber boots to cover all the cups coz most of the damage gets caused by dirt who starts acting as sandpaper so hope this will prevent this even more. Concerning the shocks springs, i will order the softest springs then coz i want soft dampening :) Those shafts extending to full length without the spring on them, that's simple. It means they're correctly filled, when you didn't fill them correctly the shaft won't extend to full length wich is not good, the shock should be sufficiently filled untill the shock shaft extends fully when you push it in and release it ;) So if you fill them put the cap on them, test it and refill if necessary, I guess they did a good job at the factory who filled them :))) That esc looks good to, i ordered a hobbyking 150a esc, 60$ or something with a programming card so looking forward to test it all out but the car is only bits and parts for the moment.... When i get my arms and stuff finished i'll post it all on the forum but it will be something of a long breath coz it aint that simple to work it all out DIY style but will be fun if it works :) now test those shocks and post some pics when they're mounted on your car ;) cheerz! |
I checked the cups and only front cup is eaten on both 5b-s.
My friends 5b wich picture is above is eaten the most, my is a bit less. All other cups are ok for now. Could be because of the accelerations cars weight goes to the back so front wheels spin easier..maybe that is why only front gets eaten. Will go for SS cups. What guys on local forum linked me is to new ESC on the market... I so wish i saw this 15 days earlier. Chek it out FighterCat ESC up from 3S to 17S 200A and the price is right! :gasp: Other one is 8S and 300A !!! Size 145mm x 50mm x 50mm with 2 fans on it! http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...emart&Itemid=1 Thanks for infos about the shocks  Yes i saw yesterday those HK esc are now up to 6S and for 60$... pff. I know they use to be from 2 to 4S and had problems..now upgraded...well you will report i guess :) Well take your time for aarms but make them ... Going to draw the lower parts for shock kit, i hope i finish fast and send it to "the man" :) |
Small update..
My drawings, lol http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...eupperpart.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...reShockKit.jpg Thanks to Alza Racing for cutting all out and Mr.S2K for resizeing the aluminum shock bushings to fit the GD shocks! :yipi: http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...205b-t/1-4.jpg Shocks kit and alu bushings for GD shocks http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...205b-t/2-4.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...-t/3Medium.jpg maybe a better picture a bit latter :) Bmx track is waiting.. A package from Castle arrived to post office as i refceived the ticket, just need to go and pick it up in Monday. Think it might be new MXL , 1520 and bec pro for the black flux 5b wich i am waiting 6 months !!! Hope second MXL wich i send in 3 weeks ago, will ship out to me sooner. Black savage 5b will be soon ready to rumbleee ! Must say my friend Foty killed the tranny on hes savage flux 5b that is got 130mm shocks and 44/23T on 5000mah 5S, MMM + 1520 motor. So i gues i will be making a little video alone :/ |
Alza racing new goodies
Got the wide brace kit for Ext. FLM dogbones from Alza racing.
And the new roof. Also received yellow springs for shocks. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5925Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5928Medium.jpg I send alza a picture that i liked and he put that on the roof. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5945Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5951Medium.jpg :intello: |
nice roof! :)
I'm curious, do the arms still move the same way with those extended dogbones and braces? arent the dogbones rubbing against the a-arms now? how much wider is your stance now? ow and how do the shocks hold up or haven't you run them yet? i'm still busy experimenting and being to lazy also so not much progress yet lolz... |
Yup, roof is really nice!
Dogbones are just fine as FLM dogbones are more massive yes, but they do not rub against aarms, dogbones sit perfect. Before it was 44cm wide now is 47cm. Shocks, well i made 2 jumps befor ei broke upper SS arms and lower shock plastic part. But i must say i just went full throttle on... landed ok, but was just tooo much air and too long jump. Almost twice as loong and higher as on my last video on BMX track, front landed first and rear took all the impact wich was too much. Got the repair kit and repaired those suckers :) Here a pic or 2.. http://forum.modelarji.com/datoteke/111_154.jpg http://forum.modelarji.com/datoteke/222_147.jpg Just need to jump a little less air. |
I been off a while as i been waiting all kinds of small parts.
Antena was torn and had to wait for new one. I protected antena now with shrink tube as it was damaged right on the spot where it goes out from receiver. Hole on receiver was made a bit bigger so shrink tube can go thrue. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5971Medium.jpg Next on the list was some kind of lipo protector or whatever you wanna call it. Brace i had there was slowly leaving marks on the lipos wich was not good. Now lipos cant be hit anyway and they wont get damaged! White plastic part is doing the job great. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5973Medium.jpg Alza wide brace kit and FLM dogbones. Wide brace kit does the job and widens the truck for aprox 30mm. What i dont lik eis FLM dogbones or should i say PINS.. those are to short. Should be longer on each side fro around 1mm to aprox 2mm. When i turn wheels in 1 side, there is only 1 pin on dogbone tuching output axle cup. should be 2 pins. So i will get these to the man so he knocks them out and puts longer PINS. I dont know why FLM didnt do this when they where making them. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5976Medium.jpg Upper arms where made from two SS upper arm kits. Also changed the center cups for stronger ones http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5977Medium.jpg Servo wire secured nicely between lipo plate and braces. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5980Medium.jpg Here the antena tube wich i secured with few shrink tubes up and down. Dont mind the mess around the receiver, one day when i wont be too lazy i will cut and solder all the wires to correct lenght. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5986Medium.jpg Next is motor grub screw. Stock one is PURE rubbish. So take one M4x4mm screw and just grind off a little on the hex screw head, so it wont hit the motor pinion when securing it on. I also cutted a little off on tranny, so if motor pinion ever comes lose and it hits the tranny it wont get stuck. Also using 2 nuts on slipper locker kit. Third M5 nut is just working as a shim/spacer. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5997Medium.jpg For steering i used longer shafts Stock are M4x70mm i used M4x80mm from HPI and other plastic parts are stock for now. Here you can also see how i mounted upper arms. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...5999Medium.jpg I must say i dont like the way upper arms are extended as there is less meat in the plastic parts, so i need longer shafts/screw for upper arms. Here friends roof, he used white sticker cf look a like, as he is got black tvps it should be nice effect. http://forum.modelarji.com/datoteke/dsc04946_226.jpg And hes wing Black CF and white CF look a like sticker. http://forum.modelarji.com/datoteke/dsc04947_275.jpg |
Does the wide arm kit make it bump steer or anything?
Seems it would throw things out a little. |
ahaaa i was reading it wrong lol i thought your truck was 30mm widened on each side with those braces....
anyway you don't experience any troubles with the different angle/movement you now have and the dogbone going from diff output axle to drive axle???? strrrange i thought it was going to rub against the lower a-arm.... My arms are going back to the drawing table, i'm not happy with them lolz so it will take some more time but they will be better :) the custom dogbones are finally arriving this monday or tuesday in the mail so i'm pretty psyched about that!!!! after a couple of months of waiting and looking for manufacturers :))) will update soon :) |
coolhandcountry - can you explain a bit your question... sorry just my english sometimes gives me trubels.
pietrvds - Truck is total widened for 30mm or there about... i got bad mesuring tool almost older than me  No trubles or any other problems with dogbones except the 2 short pins on FLM dogbones. I really cant wait for your arms.. i am waching your thread closely :) And dont forget to post the pic of the dogbones you receive! oh wich manufaturer made yours ? |
It looks as if your arms was moved out from factory positions.
Doesn't look like your steering linkage moved anything. That in turn may make it drive differently over bumps cause of geometry defference. Maybe the wheelbase makes it less noticable. |
Arms where moved out form factory position as it is wide brace kit.
Before car was 44cm wide now is 47cm wide. Steering linkage i replaced the shaft (Stock M4x70mm for M4x80mm) From this stock HPI 93535 Turnbuckle M4x70mm http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-93535-Tu...item336d63c80f To this HPI Nitro Hellfire SS Turnbuckle M4x80mm Hellfire (2) HPI86535 http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-Nitro-He...item2316ed319b Well i wanted wider car because of the 5b lenght. How it will handle i do not know, but I got a feeling it will be good. Test will show more. Wish it would stop raining for 1 freaking day. |
Sold my XeRun150A yesterday and today i received this from Castle :)
A very nice A! http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...205b-t/MXL.jpg |
WOOOOOOT! :)
and will you also purchase a 2028 for it or a leopard....? |
You mean new motor for CD?
I got 1520 on it and will use tranny for now :) What i was thinking is going to 8S with 18/44T. |
What's the idea behind that? couldn't you just adjust gearing instead of using more cells? ;)
have you got any more news about those shocks? are they holding up ok? |
Idea is a bit more speed and more driving time.
Shocks are holding so good, i wont change these for no others. I did have only 3 hard tests, befor my antena started to glitch and so on. But i am loving these. |
very good to hear that! can't wait to test them also....
did you change the oil or did you leave it factory filled and just changed the white springs? I like soft dampening alot so thought of drilling the pistons but if you're allready satisfied with the factory oil and the yellow springs ... ;) |
I did not yet tested yellow springs, but i do have factory oil in shocks.
With white springs is driving ok but more for jumps and so. Yellow are no way for jumps but driving should be a lot better as car sits very low, similar to S8 Bxe. i do have 3 preloaders or shims for springs on. On front even 4 i think. What i need to do is solder the 6mm connectors on MXL2 and go ut to test the yellow springs... Hope i wont be too lazy..i mean the weather here and cold...i perfere a neat place :) |

MXL2 is back on Savage 5b flux baja.
What i need to do is secure the front lights and set the angle for them. Also need to buy some lipos as i sold them all and got a new baja 5b body to spray / paint. Rear wing is now secured and it is not moving. What i did i used small plastic peace and just stick it to the wing, turned upside down 1 side of alza upper racing shock kit wich is now working as a support for wing. Now next to do is Green locktite on the motor pinion, if that goes loose i will try red locktite. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...6035Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...6039Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...6038Medium.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...6040Medium.jpg |
Here another video...
Steering much better now, i grinded a little so now it turns more. I tested White springs in front with no preloaders and yellow springs "soft" at the rear with 3 preloaders on each shock. Green locktite on motor pinion !!! It holds for now, 3 runs all good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1YHEjRw4cQ |
