Thanks guys. @Tinuss, sell me a pair of carbon straps and I will polish yours to a mirror finish, deal? ;-) I think the G1 would look awesome with a pair of carbon straps, am not happy with the purple straps that are on there now...
|
More work done today, unfortunately will need to wait till next weekend to finish up, have run out of time this weekend unfortunately.

Wow! Your polish Skills are incredible!
|
lol ...
U do realize I will send u the entire truck ?...... :na: |
You clearly have WAAAAYY more patience than I do! Looks awesome!
|
yes same here ....
I once started on a set of gmaxx arms .... they still need to be finished grrr |
It's a pain for sure, but I just like to plug away if I am watching tv etc. I managed to put aside time this weekend to watch Game 1 of the World Series. Massive KC Royals fan so was stoked to hear they won this year... I am also always waiting for parts to ship from overseas, so I just slowly take one step at a time until the build is finished...

Ok so some help needed if that is ok. Following the traxxas slipper assembly instructions, it just doesn't seem to match what I see in Serum's assembly pics.
Here is what traxxas shows the setup should be as: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...113_185547.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...113_185121.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...113_185041.jpg But the fins on the outside of Part# 5351 rubs on the RCM Mount. If you take a look at Serum's pics, this part does not seem to have fins.... http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...al%20V1/22.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...al%20V1/25.jpg It has got me scratching my head. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, maybe traxxas have changed the design of their part# 5351? Thoughts? |
The more I look at it, the more it looks like part# 5351 has either changed, or this part is different between nitro & electric models. The pic in the traxxas instructions show a difference in the number of fins, yet they have the same part #... If you look at Ralf's pic of his old slipperential as well, it looks like his had only 5 fins, instead of 10 like mine. Maybe I need to order a different kit...
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...1/IMG_0846.jpg |
It looks to me there are 2 variations of this part, both seemingly with the same part#.
Looks like the one I got from amain is the wrong electric version? http://www.amainhobbies.com/rc-cars-...-tra5351/p3376 And the correct nitro one we need can be ordered from Tower Hobbies? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHGC5&P=ML What I don't want to do is go ahead and order from tower, pay $15 in shipping and find out I still receive the wrong one and tower just haven't updated their part pic... Wish it was as easy as picking up the phone, maybe I might shoot them an email before I place the order... |
As you can see from the pic below, I have the steel rod in as far as it can go towards the slipper:
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...113_200339.jpg But no matter what I do, I can stop the fins rubbing here: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...113_200401.jpg |
You seem to have some extra space on the shaft, can't you shim it forward just a tad?
I would shoot Tower an email indeed, asking if they can make a picture of the parts in the bag. |
We used to trim the fins from the back of the slipper during the installation - Rene, being the thorough guy he is, likely mentioned it somewhere in the build. This was intentional to minimize overhang, but also to allow ample clearance to the mount(dimensions are driven by the Gorilla chassis), which is very close(mount is machined to fit around the input shaft as well, while allowing room for the adjustment wrench). There should be enough room on the shaft to simply slide it a little to allow clearance, but grinding the fins was part of the plan from the onset.
|
Also, you are installing it onto a G1, which has slightly more room(braces are slightly different and the mount piece is slightly rearward vs the G2 braces) - you will have no clearance issue if you simply move the shaft rearward as ruudxd mentioned without grinding the fins.
|
Yeah nice one. You know when you are looking at something wrong, you know you are, but still can't figure it out. That was me yesterday lol. I like the clean look of Rene's having grinded the fins completely down. That will be my plan of attack today. Cheers guys!

Sometimes you just need to sleep on it. I was tired before I started working on the Slipperential last night, got up this morning and it is now complete.
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...114_111310.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...114_111321.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...114_111332.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...114_111338.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...114_111352.jpg |
I think because my G1 rails are a little different to the G2 rails, I needed to shave less than 1mm from the Motor Mount to get a good fit. 30 seconds with the dremel fixed this right up tho:

SO, a very big THANK YOU going out to Mike for this run of parts, I appreciate it, and a lot of other guys have also contacted me directly to stress their appreciation too.
Guys, if you encounter any problems and concerns when building your Slipperentials, hopefully my pics above are of help, but please do not be shy in posting up any questions you have. I'm here to help! ;-) Sammy |
Oh no.....I missed this!!! :(
Thinking these were forever gone from the shelves I've had an ebay search on "slipperential" since forever trying to get one of these! It's been sending me buggies but never a maxx related auction. My gorillamaxx project has been boxed up in storage since I separated from my ex in 2007. Living all over the world since then (England, Canada, Ireland, Spain, India), I'm now (finally!) settled in Canada, very happily married and moving to our new house with my wife in a months time. (Some stability at last!) I started to think about resurrecting this project, and just discovered this thread! :/ Mike, on the very rare chance that there's a test cut of one of these lying in a parts drawer somewhere, unpolished & beaten up, I'll give it a loving home! :) |

There are still a few of these around on people's wall's .... :) U should be able to find a set . If not u could always sell me the Gmaxx.... :na: Welcome back !! |
:) thanks, I'll post pics of the project once I get the man-cave setup at the house. :yipi: IIRC there was just the tranny and batts needed to complete it.
Then see if someone will part with those mounts! <3 Sorry, the G's not for sale  |

lol yeah was just messing with ya.... The Gmaxx is still a sexy kit ... not rare but very sexy and makes a nice build Be sure to post pics yes |
Think this guy is being a little ambitious
http://www.ebay.com/itm/gorillamaxx-...o/252503024921 Still tempting.... |
Been on there for so long and not complete
|
Aaah yes, so I see.
Without this little guy will be stripping gears under the torque.... or worse. http://image.prntscr.com/image/7a704...4daea81976.png |
It is missing the motor mount completely, so a little more to worry about than the little part pictured. Been for sale for at least a couple years I think...

It does seem dubious that the motor mount is in a different picture to the rest....anyway, my pockets are nowhere deep enough to take that risk. Thanks for the heads up that it's been around for so long guys, just adds to the uncertainty around it.
Hopefully a member on here is helping me out! :) :yipi: I dug in my emails (as all my gear is still boxed in deep storage)... I have the Neu 1521/1.5D, 1900kv motor to go in it (I think the BigMaximum's were out of stock at the time)....with the Mamba Monster V2 controller. I quite like keeping with a black colour scheme. :) Am looking forward to finishing the build!!! |
