Scott, I feel your grief. I have followed your posts. |
thanks mark. it's officially the end of an...obsession, lol.
because of all of what i went through for that truck, my plan is to put the LMT (which i kept - plus the MM and a123 packs) in a truck that can be STOCK (don't even remember what that is anymore) and hold up. either the new emaxx or a LST2. |
Sounds like a good idea. I think that the new emaxx would be a great basher. Maybe upgrade to rpm arms and shock towers. I have an aftershock that I need to convert. It came with al diff cases, and I purchased a set of nova rc 7075 diff cups too. The truck is brand new, so I will be upgrading a never run set of diffs. I have a strong feeling (maybe I need to use the potty?!) that the emaxx will be alot lighter than the lst/aftershock, and lighter is better in my book. We shall see, cause I will be buying a new emaxx as soon as it comes out!

I think the movie Gone Baby Gone open's in theater's today. Seems appropriate. :gasp:
Good to hear the LST2 dream still lives on in some fashion though. I'd have to go 8ight or 8ight-T  I'm anxious to see how you'll go with the new & improved E-Maxx. Hurry Up Already!!! |
I'm with RCShocker. I would go wtih a 8ight or a Muggy.
|
Noooooooooooooooo........
Oh well, I understand why you sold it, but it is still a sad day. As for what next- New E-maxx, it is such a fine looking truck, with all the upgrades coming as 'stock', that it would be criminal not to buy one. Add the bonkers lehner to the single motor mount option and you would have one mean looking & performing truck. |
Good decision. I got rid of most of my bling trucks..
Go for a good setup and a fair tough truck/truggy.. buy loads of batteries and have fun without worrying about a truck getting damaged. |

That sound's like some very good advice Dr. Phil, ermm, uh um doc Serum :intello: Good stuff for a guy that let a beautiful dream machine go. But just like 1:1's, you cant keep them all. And for ALOT of guys, the build is the best part. Chop,Cut,Rebuild, and then Cut'em Loose. Either way, the guy know's what he's doing. |
i like that - yes, good advice dr. rene
i definitely agree to try and get something that can be as tough as possible in stock form - and hopefully have a truck that handles/corners well too, but most importantly be super tough. while the new emaxx is still a rather outdated machine (IMO), it sounds like it'll fit the durability bill. those 3.3 sliders still worry me, but even if they can last a few months before needing to be replaced, it'll be much cheaper than the SM ever was. the LMT on 5s a123 packs should be able to test the durability well. :diablo: i cleaned the SM up thoroughly yesterday, and she's boxed and ready to go out tomorrow morning. i think the post office employee will have to pry it from my fingers to ship it out... i love that truck, but i think it's the best decision. i got really good money for it - who knows if that would've happened in a year or more if i waited. |
Clod, all I can say is wow, hard to believe!
I'm just getting mine together so I sure hope a year from now I'm either still head over heels about mine and or prices are even higher for good used equip. I've been scrounging for a while and so far the only thing used on my Lightning will be the chassis. I've managed to find new Towered VBS, 8 spyders, TI skids, alum bumpers and jounces, new Racer-X suspension, new UE SuperShocks, TI center drives and 8mm cvds. Taken a while, but looks like mine is going to come together. Now with the MM due in Jan or Feb at such a super price, I'll prob wait and go for that. |
i still find it hard to believe too - and i dropped the huge box off at the post office this morning, lol.
i definitely loved that truck. it was (and probably will be) the best looking and performing truck i'll ever have owned. but i was waaaay too paranoid about driving it (crashing...heck, even just flipping it) and that's not why i'm in this hobby. i want to beat the tar out of my trucks, and not have to worry about spending a small fortune IF i happen to find replacement parts. and i figured it i did dump it, it would make sense to do so when the market was still good for the product. but it's all good - i swore the only way i'd sell it is if i could get good money for it - and i did. sounds like your truck is exactly like what mine was - except the only things new that i bought were the 8mm cvds and the SS's. everything else i bought lightly used. you'll love it. be sure to post pics once you get it together, even if it's sans a motor. |
Definitely! I plan on running mine hard. My orig predator is the only one I worry about and take it real easy with since I know I can't get parts for it if I break it, I def know what you're saying.
I came into this type rc just about 2yrs too late, well past its heyday. Story of my life, too little too late, lol!! |
Wow Scott, I never thought the day would come...
Might I go ahead and hint at an E-Revo. |
Quote:
an e-revo is definitely a possibility... i kept my 1940/7, MM, a123 packs and 5955tg servo...they'd fit nicely in that! and about 10 other trucks i have to choose from.... ugh! i want 'em all! |
wow, this almost makes me want to build a G2R revo......and sell my UE stuff....
|
hey clod, just lookin back at the pics, you don't have the nut on that comes with the strobe sprong kit, how tight was your slipper, and how did you do it up tight enough?
also did you use the stock slipper plates with the strobe? thanks jordan |
nope - there weren't enough threads exposed to put the nut on. i hand-tightened the sprong, and it went as far as i could tighten it - i had punch control set low on my MM, and if i hit the throttle hard i could tell the strobe was slipping a bit, but i didn't want to take a wrench to the sprong and risk damaging it. it seemed to work ok as it only had a little slip here and there.
the strobe uses special friction pads, so the stock plates aren't used. |
i see, ive got the other hi temp pads, does the sprong just go straight onto them?
could you please tell me what order you were running things from the tranny, ie. motor mount, pad, slipper..., but in the right order :mdr: thanks jordan |
It should be stock slipper plate, slipper disc, pad, slipper, pad, disc, plate, sprong.

I can't find Strobe RC any more, so can't provide a link. This was his instructions for the slipper, just like listed above. |
thanks very much, thats a BIG help :mdr:
