What about a class action lawsuit claiming false advertising? Surely there must be at least one lawyer out there who has gotten ripped off by these jokers who will do it pro bono...
I'd be soo pissed if I bought a 2010 vette with a 600hp supercharged all aluminum V-8, just to receive the car with a bone stock 4.3l 250 horse V-6... |

basically there is no standard way of measuring C rating... |
Misunderstood.

The 6500SS Series are hardcase too. Identical to this "New" Series.
If anyone has a 6500SS Series Pack (that hasn't puffed yet), we'll toss it on the CBA and compare the graphs at a 50 amp discharge. Anyone wanna bet? I'm sure that's identical too. It's a 30C cell. Back during the whole "Surge Watt Rating" Debate, the "surge" rating was double the actual C rating. There are still some 6500SS packs on the site with a "60C" rating. This is really nothing new though. They've been doing this for years. |
Wow! I have some flame decals and gonna put them on all my lipos to make them true 150c.Thanks MA.HA! HA!

Who woulda thunk it, MA playing marketing games ???????? Gee, Kinda explains why HK Nanos packs are so much bigger than their regular 30-40C packs ? |
You can send in a complaint to the FTC about the false advertising claims. Each state has simliar statutes about the claims, but not sure where to send them. But you need definite proof of course.

Obviously we're not Maxamps target demographic. These are aimed at cashed up people with no concept or understanding of lipos, higher numbers must be better here have my cash. Those of us who have taken the time and effort to research and actually have an understanding sadly make up a very small portion of the market.

Not the point

I think more to the point that the people who are regulars here on RCM are tired of seeing people being lied to and scammed by products and ads like this one. Plus by asking the questions that we have been asking in here over the last few weeks have provided enough info for the average person visiting here to take a close look at what is being done by Maxamps to question whether they should be buying anything from them. This started out to be a venue in which Maxamps has had a chance to step up and provide us with some level of validity to their new ad which states "TRUE 150C race ready Lipos". You tell me. Have they taken this chance and provided anyone with some thread of evidence to back this ad up? Or maybe changed the ad to make it more realistic or believable, or more in line with what the rest of the industry provides in the way of specs, which are usually continuous C and bust C ratings. Honesty is the best policy. Anything else will kill a business eventually Honestly all I have read so far is that these batteries are claimed to be a little bit better than their regular cells. The best change that I have read so far is the fact that Maxamps has finally stopped with the added cost of insurance for purchasing thier batteries. Just having that included is a step in the right direction, but we are still hearing stories that they are back peddling on the coverage with excuses about "Oh well that is not covered". Has anyone ever dealt with them and actually gotten a bad Lipo cell or pack replaced? I have never read or heard of one yet. |
I have had two dealings with them:
1. Bought 3s Lipo pack for Rustler VXL, Pack arrived and lasted half a run and then died, discharge lead wasn't soldered properly and as such came adrift. Took 2-3 days of back and forth arguing before I got a refund. 2. Bought a pair of their Lifepo4 packs for my Mini Revo, delayed in construction and shipping, paid for EMS but packs still took 2 wks to arrive. Packs worked fine however, although didn't feel much punchier than the stock Nimh pack. Their customer service is argumentative at best, lots of blame shifting and excuses but seldom are problems solved rather than merely delayed. |
Wow, we need that gif of the dude beating the dead horse attached to the title of this thread!!!
Lets just leave it alone guys. My 1st lipos were from Maxamps, and back then they were better than the similarly priced venom lipos. I would go as far to say that venom lipos are worse than maxamps and overrated too. In fact I still have some working 2100 mah maxamps cells. The quality of their stuff has gone up at the same rate as the rest of the lipo business. The high end lipo companies (hyperion thunder power, etc) have always had better lipos than MA and that is still true. HC really stepped the game up with their cheap lipos that perfomed as well as the mid grade stuff/last years tech. The few zippy packs I have owned have performed as well or better than the old enerland 25 and 30c packs... MA make money cause they advertise. Plain and simple. I know their is better stuff out there. Kinda like General Motors, they are always saying how great they are, despite the worthless crap they continue to sell... Regardless of product you are either informed, lucky, or paying too much. |
Off topic but about MA. There are a few good things about the company. Their Lipos are designed to fit in specfic models. This is a huge plus for certain models. They seem to work with the manufacturers to make things that fit and work together. I still order from MA every now and then, it's easy to find what I want on their site. If I need a certain balance tap or plug or shrinkwrap it's easy to find and they are quick to ship. Not all their lipos are bad. I have a 2s 1550mah for my RC18T, I love this pack, it's almost 3 years old and it stays balanced, holds it's charge, doesn't get hot, and performs great. That 3 year old pack even did well in a revo vxl while I had it.
Lastly MA does a great job advertising and promoting. I have received ther free money and used it several times. Also their write a review and recieve 8AA batteries for free ( which are actually pretty good alkaline AA batteries) None of this however applies to these 150C rated batteries. If Brandon wants to send me a set for my Flux, a 4s brick for my truggy, or a 2s for my SC10 I will gladly run them with an Eagle Tree and post graphs and send the batteries back. If MaxAmps wants to sponsor me for 1/8 scale electric Truggy racing or SC racing I will gladly use their packs and promote them, even if I had to pay a "reasonable" cost for the lipos. I'm not against running a MaxAmps pack as long as it can provide the power I need, not puff, and be reasonably priced. Currently the price is holding me back from buying one. |
