You have apoint. F1 is the same, now with all the rules, but the last time I watched F1 it was still exciting. They should bring back the turbo charged engines. I would love to see a F1 go 300mph. I think Nelson Piquet had the fastest speed of over 220mph. I'm not 100% sure, I was just a kid in Brasil going nuts everytime I watched F1.

I used to be a big watcher of F-1 in my younger years, but with the advances of the NASCAR as a sport I made the change back in 1990. Even the NASCAR officials have put restrictor plates on every car for the big track races at tracks like Daytona, Charlotte, and Talladega to limit their speeds for safety reasons. Without the restrictor plates these cars will now run into the 230 MPH range on the 2.5 mile banked oval tracks. If you have ever driven over 150 mph or more you can appreciate that running in traffic over 200 mph is phsycotic, but hugely entertaining. Dale E was the most revered driver on the NASCAR circuit. While racing at Daytona a few years back He hit the wall in the 3rd turn on the last lap going about 200 mph and never recovered. He died in like 2001 and still today his offical gear outsells every other driver. You should try going to just one race with a few friends. We usually stay at the track in an RV for the weekend and party every night after the Bush and Nextel Cup races. We always spend a little time in the garage area, and the stunt shows are getting crazy as well. The whole event is a blast.

Let the cars go 230-300, overcoming (ok, battling) the fear of death to go as fast as possible is what made drivers heros. Keep up the safety improvements but let the cars go. Let the pit guys strive for more power, traction, and better drivers. Regulate the lower classes to keep them affordable but let the big dogs RUN!

I personally love road courses, gas, brakes, turn left, turn right, shift, all that good stuff. And give me lots of in-car camera with telemitry and radio chat, less announcers.

The problem is how do you survive an acident at those sorts of speeds. There will always be accidents and the forces at those speeds even with a glancing blow to the wall are enough to rip the car to peices. Say you loose only a third of your speed in a glancing hit on the wall, that's still 100mph when you are doing 300mph. Even with perfect safety features you are still loosing 100mph in an instant.

I don't know if you get to see the NASCAR racing down under:lol:, but that is why these kinds of racing machines are so important to the automobile industry:yes:. They are trying a lot of new things and breaking ground on new safety inovations that are being put into the every day automobiles that we drive:rules:. They have been calling it the car of tomorrow because the changes were brought into the sport gradually over the last 24 months, but now it is in full swing for the 2008 season:yipi:. These cars are built to take those kinds of speeds in an accident, and even help prevent major issues from becomming a huge catastrophy.:gasp: So do we want to see 230 mph, of course we do. That is just the nature of racing. :party::whistle:

The faster a race car driver drives the more attention he pays and the car is basically glued to the ground with so much down force. I remember when I told my grandfather my kart wasn't fast enough. Well the old guy came to the US and bought a small turbo (He said it was made for Harley) and the mechanic found a way to add it to my kart and let me tell you, it was fantastic to race a 125CC against the big dogs and we had to add a roll cage after I rolled a few times. With the higher speeds one would have to come out with new technologies to keep the cars safer and afterwards that technology would be used in our overweight unsafe road cars. Group C was safe and to see some cars go over 250mph was just amazing.

I do have a Q related to the MMM though. I know lipolys are at 4.2V/cell at full charge, and 4.2V is also their CV charge voltage. I think Life cells are 3.6V charge voltage, does this mean that they are 3.6V at full charge? If you want to know what this has to do with anything (or the MMM in particular) being a bit more of a basher at heart, I'm thinking of upgrading my battery systems to A123 cells soon, and was thinking of going from 6s lipo to 7s A123 in my revo... since 6*4.2 = 7*3.6 I'm kind of assuming the MMM should handle it fine... lol the questions kinda hidden in that rant up there... :P

Well we had to find something to talk about while waiting for the MMM:oh:. One can only say so many times that they wish the MMM was here:yes:. Hopefully it will be released soon and you will have the specs that you need to make that decision.:lol: Until then anything is pretty much speculation and guess work.:eyes:

The quark 125B is rated for 6s (apparently it doesn't work properly for some people, but it has worked well for me), and zeropointbug has used his on 7s A123's. He did have some extra caps on it, so maybe that helped a bit, not sure.

7s A123 has the same unloaded voltage as 6s LiPo but I hear A123 drop more voltage under load so it should be a little easier on the ESC if it is truly 6s capable.

Back on topic, I am a F1 fan too and don't really get nascar, ok from a road track like monaco or Phoenix you can only see a few corners but with nascar its the same even if you can see the whole track, most F1 tracks dont have buildings either side of the street, hockenheim in germany is quite wooded and also doesnt offer a good view but most of the tracks are out in the open and you can see quite a lot of the trackfrom a grandstand. I've never seen F1 in person as tickets are very expensive but I have seen groupC, and sportscar racing at silverstone the English F1 track and from the grandstand at stowe corner you can see about half the track and a big screen for the other half and there is 2 other positions that you can see about a third of the track from, you can probably view of more corners in 1 race than the entire season of nascar.

I lament all the restrictions they put in F1 especially the underfloor aerodynamics that are a lot less affected by the car in front than wings are, which hampers overtaking. But in this litigious society we live in it is needed for the drivers and spectators safety, shame as when F1 started drivers wore leather helmets and had no seatbelts, spectators had no crash barriers or catch fences and there was no shortage of either, people accepted the risk to play there part in racing at the highest level.

I have long thought there should be a TV only unlimited computer driven unmanned class with only 1 rule which is a maximum car width so there can still be overtaking, get the squishy diver and trackside spectators out so there are no safety concerns, then release the hounds! Think you can get a 10,000hp methonol burning V8 to stay together for 200 miles? Go for it. Want a turbocharged 30litre diesel giving 10,000lb/ft? No problemo. Want a 1500hp turboed F1 engine in a 100kg car? Your welcome to get it a light as you can. Fan assisted underfloor aerodynamics giving 5G whilst stationary, good idea. Pop up variable camber wings for 300mph top speed and 20G cornering that would kill a driver instantly, that will be a sight to see. Lets see what the best creative minds can do with the pinnacle of modern technology, not how can you best optimise a car to a set of rules.

Did anyone notice in rcgroups that patrick's pumped out the prices for the MMM with a "don't quote me" - apparently street price 180...
