There is a risk with ANY ESC. None are bulletproof. You can't base a buying decision on one or two horror stories. You have to remember the sheer amount of the MM systems out there. Not too many people are going to start new threads saying "My ESC works and didn't blow up". :)

Even the muti-hundred dollar ESCs can have trouble. Just ask AAngel. ;)

I'd go with the 10XL. Actually, I'm a big fan of the 9XL, but the 10 will do fine. It will also leave lots of room for going to 5S later.

As for blowing up equipment, it doesn't matter how much you pay for a piece of equipment. All of the smoke smells the same when it decides to escape.

The MM is a great investment. For the price, you could buy a spare. Later, when the Lehner motors become more readily available, all you'll have to do to upgrade is get the Lehner.

It's good to have the all time high esc-waster aboard..

The BL gods do not look favourably on him, that is for sure.

You are pushing a controller beyond the specification the manufacturer rated it at, so yeah, you do risk it to happen.

But lots of people run it with great success on 5S, and the hardware which is used is technically capable of doing so.

Don't give AAngel a bad time! The equipment he was pushing beyond its limits (mamba max) has been the one thing to serve him well! All the stuff he has had problems with has been run within specs.

What can I say? I push my equipment to its limits, whether intentionally or not.

bdebde is right. Of all of the controllers I've gone through, the only one that goes beyond what it says it will is the MM. It is a SOLID 4S controller. The only thing that my MM won't do that my $250+ Quark will is run a four pole motor. If the Lehner motors were more readily available, I would never have bought either the Compro or the Quark.

The only real advise that I can give relative to the MM is this. If you overgear the MM it will manifest its displeasure in the form of cogging. The higher voltage you are running, the more dangerous the cogging is to your esc. If you are running 5S and it cogs, get off of the throttle quick and then back off a tooth or two on the pinion.

To be truthful, when the Lehners are back up for sale I'll probably be putting my Quark/Neu combo up for sale.

Quick question... I was also thinking of going with a Lehner basic 3100XL in my E-revo. Is this the correct motor to use, or should I be looking for something bigger. My other options are a Feigao/Nemesis 9XL or Hacker B50. I plan to use this w/ my MM and a 4s 6000mah Lipo (two 2s run in series). Will the MM ba able to handle all this? Also, I've heard that the Lehner 3100XL is spec'd only up to 10-cells. Is this true? Will that be a problem?

I'm a little new to large size BL motors and esc's so any help is great. My main goal is to set-up my new E-Revo with a reliable and powerful system. It will be about 9-10lbs when finished, so I need a nice beefy motor to handle this thing. Thanks for any help!

rschoi, I'm not very familiar with the 3100XL, but I would assume that the 3100 denotes the kv rating of the motor. If so, that is much too high of a kv rating for a truck, especially on 4S lipo. Motors in the kv rating range of about 2000 rpms work the best in trucks.

IMO, the 9XL with the MM on 4S would be a solid, inexpensive setup for a truck. The only real drawback is that the Feigao motors tend to run hotter than better, more efficient motors, like the Lehners or Neus. How hot it gets and how fast it gets hot will depend a lot on the climate in your area and the way you drive the truck.

If you can afford it, you might also want to consider a Lehner motor. Perhaps a 1940/9, hi amp.

^ +1. The Basic XLs are more like an S motor length-wise. A basic XL is 48mm long and an S Feigao motor is 50mm long.

I will look into the lehner 1940/9. I am debating on it, but at over double the price, its a tough choice.

So has anyone heard anything new? Or is it still the old "we're working on it. It will be out soon".

Any news about the MM and Neu compatibility software yet? I have a BL rc18 about to sell on ebay, and I will hopefully get enough money off it, to buy a Neu. :)

I believe someone posted on the traxxas forum that the esc was in beta testing, and they were going with a new motor supplier since the old one couldnt meet the standard required, or some't like that. Basically the same thing as they keep saying.
