No. I'm used to it LOL. I've been messing with R/C for over 13yrs now and from the exploding NiCads to smoked ESC, Lipos are safer LOL. I remember when I got my 12,000mAh packs, poeple were saying it was too big and they don't need them. A few yrs. later MaxAmps came out with big mAh packs and everyone is loving them. I shorted them as well to see if they would puff or explode and nothing. Got to love electricity.

That's hilarious!

I got electrocuted a few times and it wasn't so bad LOL. The one time I actually got scared was when I was installing a competition audio system for a friend of mine. I had a few guys helping me and I asked them to make sure that the ground wires were disconnected and I have no clue what happened, but I got thrown back a few feet and the pain through out my body was really scary. I was also shaking a lot. I'm ok though LOL. I wish I had time to mess with my other toys. Here is a photo of 2 of them.

Hmm, very impressive. What is it?

lutach 08.31.2007 12:59 PM

Competition audio amplifiers. The little guy puts out around 5000watts and the big one puts out close to 8000watts. I have 4 of the big one and 2 of the small one.

Did you have the cover off and touch the internals or something? Assuming a monoblock design, 8,000w on even a 1ohm load requires around +/- 135vDC rails (270v total). That same power on 4ohms would require power rails around +/-260vDC (520v total). That can hurt!

Wow, over 1,000A on 12vDC battery power just for the 8kW amp! Must be one heck of a charging system! Makes my "old school" PPI 600w (sub) and 400w (mids/highs) system seem anemic by comparison.

Those look to be some high quality amps there. What brand? The PS section is larger than the actual amplifier section. Beefy transformers and capacitor bank...

I have no clue how the voltage stuff works LOL. The amplifiers can only accept 18 volts max. They are Class D amps around 85% efficiency. I haven't installed this amps yet. I was going to have them manufactured for me, but it seems that market for such powerful amps is not there anymore. The system that I installed and got electrocuted had 20 SLA batteries each putting out 1200CCA. Man the wire we used were 2/0GA.

I was assuming class AB (eff ~60%) in my battery current calculations, but that's still a LOT of current!

Any 12v amp over ~16w rms (and that is assuming BTL output) will require a switching power supply to boost that 12v to whatever the amp needs. BTW: BTL stands for Bridge tied Load. Anyway, let's say you have a 100W @ 4ohm mono amp. The output would need 20v rms. Convert that to peak voltage (28.3v), then add a few volts because transistors are not perfect switches (31v), multiply by two since signals go positive and negative. So, you'd need at least +31vDC and -31vDC rails, or 62vDC total. Hard to get 62vDC from 14.4vDC without a switcher. Aside from the switching PS and maybe extra output transistors for the low impedance loads for auto use, there really is no difference between a car and a home amp.

Powerful amps like that are difficult to make because of the current at 14v required, kinda like why we prefer HV setups. Plus, it's expensive. Plus, why? I mean; unless you're competing or running a mobile movie theater, why would you need that kind of power?

I was planning on competing just to showcase the product. Got tied up with my company and I'm now devoting 99% of my time to my daughter. The 99% was 100%, but she is in PA right now with her grandma so 99% it is LOL. The great thing is that she is showing signs of being a Savant.

I think I'm done waiting for a monster maxx :(

I am also really let down by castle, there over confidence will hurt them.

When despairation reaches the peaks, then....relief shall befall us..well, I hope that'll happen..:)

Al,

How are you? I was planning on moving to either Saudi Arabia or UAE, but I didn't get an answer from one of my client about a job in the UAE. I could still sell electronic components, but I would have to work 100% to really get established in either country. I was wondering if know how the school system is over there and if it might be the same in UAE? My daughter has Autism and I need to get this information before I make a decision. I'm from Brasil btw and I hate the cold weather here in New Jersey. I was looking at some houses around Dubai and they are amazing.

captain harlock 09.01.2007 02:40 AM

How are me?!!!

I thought I did interact with you befor!?!

Well, I'm fine. Thanks, for asking, hehe...

Dubai is PERFECT, but Saudi Arabia is great, too. I say Saudi Arabia comes in the second place after Dubai and..well...it needs some heavy reformations to make it as advanced as Dubai.
I think you need to find an international school for your girl, first.
As for the system, well, I really can't be of much help here...sorry, my friend..but as far as I can tell, you won't find it very different from the schools in the west...not as good, though..=(

lutach 09.01.2007 10:44 AM

Ok, I'll make some searches and see what I can find. Thanks Al.
