The price of the large can Medusas is really good when you compare it with a Neu or even a Mega. The only reason I bought a Mega was because Medusa didn't have a large can motor. Neu isn't an option for me because all I do is bash, and Feigao is... well you know.

Yeh stuff does get expensive in the large scale. I just look to the left of me and think, hmm I could have bought a new 1/10th TC for drifting instead of a single neu motor, or the lipos that go with it.
It is all part of the fun.... at least that is what I keep telling myself. :D |

Very true. I think I will have spent about £290 when I have got everything, which isn't too bad really, as it should last a long time.

I have to say I'm really impressed with the 70mm medusa. I'm running the 1600kv one in my hyper on 6S A123 and it just refuses to heat up. I was flying around the yard for a good while last night and when I went to go in I touched the motor and it was just warm, not hot at all, and that's with no heatsink. A cup of coffee would be hotter. Love 'em!

I dont suppose you've tried that same motor in your maxx yet by any chance, with the same batts? Im really having issues deciding between a 1600 or 2000kv 80mm motor for my truck; I could get the 2000 and gear it down, but I'd still be a little concerned about a motor that fast (on 5s) running a bit hot and needing cooling down brakes still. If I opted for the 1600kv, it would run cooler for sure on 5s, but according to my calculations I would struggle to see ~40mph without running something like 24/56 gearing, though tire balloonage (love them jumbo clawdawgs!) would help abit.

I'm getting a Thunder Tiger ST-1 Pro soon and I'm sure that I'll be getting the Medusa 36-80. But do I get the 1600 or 2000kv??? lol Grrr, where's the 1800!?!?! |

Voltage seems to be my main issue really- I have set myself up with 5s lipos and 6s A123 packs (equal to 5s lipo), so I really need an 1800kv motor ideally too. If you havent bought your batts or esc yet, then 6s lipo is ideal for the 1600kv motor and the MMM or another 6s esc. Otherwise, I would suggest 4s lipo and 2000kv with the MMM or some other beefy esc for a big truck/truggy etc. The MMM+2200kv motor system would also be ideal for 4s lipo, maybe 5s lipo, but 6s would be too much usually for an MT. |
I have a 5S 4900mah 25C Zippy-R and MMM now and really don't want to go under 5S. IDK, 4S just seems too low for me. lol
I'm thinking of going 1600kv and gearing up because that's the most popular thing to do, but having the extra 400kv with the 2000 would just be sooo fast!!! I like fast. |
I have had 0 issues running my 60-2000 on 5 and 6s in my Erevo.Actually even with the same gearing it seems to run cooler on 5s then 4s.Perhaps the longer rotor could make you want to turn lower RPM's,but really the 37000 seems to be in the sweet spot for mine.

You'd still be within the operational limits of the motor, and I find that Medusas' sweet spot is between 35k and 45k rpm, at least thats when my 36-50-3300 really becomes lively. Also, when you're running 6S the current draw is less and as a result everything runs cooler anyway, same reason why you see a difference between 5S and 4S too; if you're pulling the same amount of wattage from both setups, the 5S setup will obviously have a lower current.
