I still like the jato, that would be my personal choice but i dont see what else is out there as an extremely fast semi-offroad vehicle... its gotta be different... something thats not done often...

Yeah, I am not nice at times. Duratrax may make a few decent vehicles, but nothing as good as the better brands. They rank with ofna's cheaper buggys, like the lx and ultra series. All of Duratrax's 10th scale stuff is junk compared to a losi or AE. I do like the mini quarke and vendetta, but they are made by different companies IIRC.

Maxx trucks are fine until you try to add a bunch of weight with al parts and 18 nimh cells.

Personally, I would go with a 4WD vehicle. The 2WD is only good for races where they specify 2WD only IMO. 4WD is MUCH more fun and stable. A CRT.5 or one of the other 4WD buggies would be my choice in retrospect.

And if 2WD is what you really want, you might want to consider something specifically electric since those typically hang the motor off the rear end, which allows more room in the middle to mount batteries/electronics, and also gives more weight where it matters for traction.
