Anyone know if this motor (1515 1y) with the MMM would handle a 45/20 or 45/22 gearing on a losi 8ight-e buggy? Also would this gearing help keep it from flipping over at full throttle?

I have now had a chance to run my e-revo (MMM w Tekno Neu 1515/1Y) on the same track using two different voltage set-ups.

Set-up 1 TRC 4s 15c 8000 mah Geared 58/24 (41mph)
Set-up 2 Zippy 6s 25-30c 4800mAh Geared 20/65 (46mph)

Everything ran cooler on the 6s set-up. BUT!...to be fair...A couple things. It is too fast for the track(both set-ups were really) so i may gear both down a bit more next time I go. When i ran the 6s set-up, i had added some mudguards which eliminated ALOT of rotating weight that got added to the driveshafts while running on 4s. Also, it was a cooler day out when I ran on 6s (overcast).
Temps;
4s (MMMv2)= ESC 140-155 / Motor 135-158 / batteries 110-118
6s (MMMv3)= ESC*** 110-118 / Motor 100-112 / batteries 90-95

I am starting to get the impression that these motors like to run in the high 40k's to low 50k's without alot of heat buildup if geared correctly.

*** :eyes:something kinda weird happened with my MMMV3. The fan is coming on at around 110F. I checked the temp throughout the day and it never got hotter than 118 in the hottest spot i could find on it, yet the fan wouldnt shut off. Wondering if maybe I have a bad transistor. *shrug*:neutral:

Thanks!

...according to Patrick, Castle will sell both a Green and a Black motor;:yipi:

Hoov,couple questions. How long did you run each setup? The temp ranges given,were they taken at different times,or different spots on the components? IOW is that the temps they leveled out at,which both seem fine.With the 4s did you have those temps at lvc?That seems a little high,my SPC's usually stay around 5 degrees warmer then the ambient,but I rarely run them to lvc.1 more thing,where are you getting your speed estimates?Since My Medusa 2000 runs 44 with 24/68 gearing,on 4s,I'm wondering what the 2 setups would radar at.Are you running LPR tires?

Hoov,couple questions. How long did you run each setup? 4s about 35 minutes before the V2 failed. The 6s I ran for about the same on the first run and then about 30 minutes on the second. The temp ranges given,were they taken at different times,or different spots on the components? Yes, I temped the components at different times throughout the runs, but always took their hottest spot as the total temp, never an average. IOW is that the temps they leveled out at,which both seem fine.With the 4s did you have those temps at lvc? Never got that far, so no. The MMMv2 died before reaching LVC. That seems a little high,my SPC's usually stay around 5 degrees warmer then the ambient,but I rarely run them to lvc.1 more thing,where are you getting your speed estimates? i am using BrianG's speed calc. Since My Medusa 2000 runs 44 with 24/68 gearing,on 4s, What tires are you using?, To get those speeds on BrianG's calc, you need to balloon out to like 8 inches! I'm wondering what the 2 setups would radar at. Me too, but I dont have a radar. Are you running LPR tires? This is a good question, because I forgot to mention something important. On the 4s I was using badlands on LPR rims, on 6s I was using Crimefighters on LPR rims. I think that the badlands may have been holding more clay and retaining more weight than the crimefighters....which would have effected the temps. I'll do more runs on 4s now that my MMMv3 is here. I'll try to have less variables to give a better compairison.

I wonder how much just being a V3 helps out.That new firmware is supposed to work wonders.Stock Talons.The calculator is an excellent estimator.However you do not know for sure till you throw a radar or gps on it.Funny thing is that changing esc's changed the top end by about 4mph. Yeah the tires would make a substantial difference by stock weight andf size alone. Well keep up on the updates,I'd really like to see comparable rund s to see what the difference is.

it's a shame I broke mine before you go there yesterday, we missed out on revo racin'.

I already upgraded the Diff to hybrids so I think the input shaft will be the weak link...

I havent read the whole thread yet, but how did this work out for you? Or did your shaft issue put the brakes on it?

I'm really curious how your shocks are going to hold up with those batteries. Mine sagged like cows teat at milking time......
