I just purcased the 8 cells for the battery- Tenergy 3500 Sub-C NiMH. I know they aren't the best, but for $2.98/cell in that capacity, they aint that bad. I need figure out how to mount them onto the axles now.

Doh have you checked holme's site he's 50% off on packs at the moment it is like $15 for an 8 cell split pack...

Well, I've made a bit of progress lately......

I have the ESC's programmed, and the "Dig Mixing" works flawlessly with the 6EXA. I have driven it around the basement a bit. I crawled over various objects, cardboard boxes, tool boxes, X-boxes, etc. The dig mixing will definitely take some getting used to, but I am very happy that it works.

I would like some larger tires. I'm looking for something in the 5.5-6" diameter size. Preferably for a 2.2 sized wheel.

Looking good WN, what wind motors are those? Are they any good? look like tc race motors...

What's_nitro? 01.12.2009 01:17 AM

Thanks. They're 55T motors. Very good quality. I went with the Reedy name because I used them back in my "brushed" days. AAMOF the first motor I bought for my Rustler over 10 years ago was a Reedy modified 12T double. The brushes are still wearing in on these motors, so they do "skip" occasionally. As it stands the top speed is about 7 mph on this rig. Low speed looks to be ~1/4 mph. The Sidewinders provide perfectly smooth control. I do want to upgrade the radio to 2.4 at some point. All of the metal-to-metal friction causes the FM to glitch once in a while. I don't think I will need an external BEC. The two SW BECs together have no trouble powering that brushless servo. The only reason I would get one is to run the servo at 6V, instead of 5V. The BLS351 won't be staying in there. More than likely I'll buy the HS7955TG; and another when I can get the rear steer kit.

If you plan to run a pair of servos the ccbec is a must. I had issues with a jr 9000t overloading the internal bec and switching off the spectrum rec. Even tried a cap on the rec, no dice. The ccbec cured the issues and I have a solid 6v on the servo. Mad power, and the 9100t is even more powerful. I also have a jr 8711, that servo is super on 6v.

Extreme Crawler Makeover!

 A lot has changed!

Check out the slideshow: V-twin Sidewinder engine with Spektrum carburetor! :surprised:

I love the look of the "engine". The fuel is supplied by a 2s 4000 lipo in the trunk. It's a bit slower than before but that's NBD. I'm using a Hitec 645MG at the moment and it's working well. No UBEC yet, no complaints from the Sidewinders yet either. I also installed 0.5" travel limiters on the shocks to tame the articulation. The Flat Irons aren't too grippy, IMO, so I ordered a set of the Chisel 2.2 G8 tires that come with the memory foams. They are about 0.75" larger in diameter, 0.2" wider, and are a softer compound. I have "high hopes" for them!

More updates!

Is anybody still subscribed to this thread???

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...h_DSC00379.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...h_DSC00374.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...h_DSC00373.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...h_DSC00370.jpg

I got the G8 Chisels mounted up. They are VERY soft, especially with the memory foams. I painted the body (DUH). I'm pleased with the results, though if I had a better detail brush (than the cheap plastic one in the testors sample pack), the lines would be straight... I plan on installing LEDs in all of the appropriate places- and maybe some inappropriate ones. I hope somebody reads this!

SpeedAssault 03.22.2009 10:54 PM

thats cool

lights are cool too
Did you clock your axles
whats the specs on it?
DIG switches ?

I bought berg axles to
but I like my custom super which still needs LEDs mounted
