3080 is over $1,000 last I checked. Bolidos are harder to get than a Neu, expensive, bad service/customer care, etc. 10mm shaft is actually a good thing, all 1/5th scale pinions I've seen are 10mm shaft.

You can get 12 and 14t pinion with 8mm bore. The 1521 motors I have here have 8mm shafts, so the 12t pinions will be used on 10s to get around 50mph.

On a side note I cleaned the carb and reset it to factory. After a few tugs it started up. So I will put it back together and setup the radio. Hopefully I can run it tonight or tomorrow.

What motor mount is Unsullied_Spy talking about?
Be careful running that gas motor linc, you never know when some BL car might just whip your butt. haha

Gassers are damn fast if you know how to port, polish them. Along with buying a quality performance pipe and engine. I never had any issues with gas. Always stayed tuned. Could get 45min runtimes on each tank and it always ran strong. I just hated the noise.

I am guessing he is refering to the OSE mounts I linked to. I was going to use them as a rear support, and bolt the front of the motor on as is usually done. I do not plan to make much adjustment, as my pinion choice (and power delivery) is limited.

Yeah, I know that I will get my ass handed to me by something brushless... Luckily I think I am the only guy in a 40mile radius to have anything brushless worth a crap. Mkrusdek (sp?) is about the closest guy with anything decent, or maybe Chip Cross.

All of the really nice gas engines I have seen are quite expensive... For me I would invest the money in an electric setup before I bought anything high end gas. Or I could steal the 75cc engine off my husky chainsaw! 6.5 hp twin choke and tons of torque. I was cutting a 2' tree last weekend and it did not even feel like it was putting a load on it...

Anyways, I only have to buy about 250 bucks worth of stuff to convert the baja, and I was mocking up the motors earlier and it looks like I will have plenty of room for them and the escs in the gas engine location. Plus the lipos will fit where the tank sits. I can even keep the stock radio tray. I may have to move the brake servo, not sure if the linkage will clear the top motor.

I also plan to run front brakes, so I may need a pair of servos, but the m11 can handle that. the 4th channel is a slave to the throttle channel, so I can even bias the brakes thru the radio.

You can pick up a 29cc cy silver ed. engine for around $180. The pipe will run you anywere from $80-$200.

Well, I got the 5b running... Kinda disappointed with it. It does handle really well, but I think this engine has seen its day. No matter what we did with the high and low needles it would just not work very well. Not much top end, and it is noisy. Once it heated up the power really dropped off, so I think it may be due for a rebuild... Not that I have any interest rebuilding it!

So I pulled the engine and tank, and started eyeballing the leftover space. The motors look quite easy to mount, and I think I have figured out a center brace that will support the rear chassis. Worst part will be trying to get everything lined up correctly. I need to order the pinions and go from there, then I will be able to see if my motor mount ideas will work. So this project may take a while...

You can get a Bolido from icare-rc.com He has great service.

I will most likely start a new thread with pics and link this one to it...

Should have some pics next week... Trying to finish at least one other project before I start this one!

I have thought about doing one of these, Would a 2250 lehner 10t be enough to power one of these beasts? There is a hobbyshop here in GA selling the lower priced B5 copy and i might try it one day

If the 2250 would work, I plan to run about 8s on it

Not familiar with the lehner ratings, but if it can put out about 2500-3000 watts cont it should do.

BL_RV0 04.04.2009 10:55 AM

I remember reading a hobbycity review of the KB45 XL motors a while back. The guy said that the KB45 was as powerful as a lehner 2240, just ran hotter. If the 2250 is only slightly larger, I doubt it would be enough to push the 5B around.

The first one is what should be done to the baja and the second one has a lehner in it.

BL_RV0 04.04.2009 11:05 AM

Riley, you call THIS what SHOULD be done to a baja?
