damn, this rampage is the same size as my lawnmower, I should give it a shot... I still have one final cut on my grass...

aqwut 09.18.2009 06:40 PM

Well I have a video of the truck running for the first Trial.. Area is way too small and my spektrum's range just sucks.. period.. Truck could've been a tad quicker, but I don't want to fry the $100 ESC..

This was the problem at the end... Thank God it wasn't anything else...

It sounds so cool.... Did you really think the plastic gears would last??

_paralyzed_ 09.18.2009 07:46 PM

Hell's yeah! That is awesome. Can't wait for more:yes:

redshift 09.18.2009 09:34 PM

WoW.

Schweeeeeeeet

I am wondering if metal gears will hold up on that!

Better do something with the radio.. range issues could be fatal w that thing...

At the least you could take out a decent sized evergreen :surprised:

Sounds beastly!

big greg 09.18.2009 09:40 PM

your gonna have a problem if those gears stripped out with that little bit of power, wait till ya start to romp on it!

I had my fingers crossed.. I have to weigh that thing, it's atleast 35Lbs...

Me too, just finished the battery mounts... now I just have to make a mount for the ESC and I'm all set..

I'm suppose to send the module back to spektrum to change the antenna wire. But I have races for the next few weeks and unable to send it yet...

Lookin' at the Metal gears right now....I might keep one of the gears plastic.... but I have lots of gears(came with the truck), I want to see which one keep dying... I'm sure, it'll be that same one all the time...

Just a few thoughts I had aqwut, the intermediate gearset (idlers) seem like a potential trouble spot. They're only supported on the inboard side, any bearing slop will translate into severe wear on the gears. I realize this was sort of a bang-together and I LOVE it, just thinking longevity. If you notched the tray a little more it the bevel drive could accomodate a single large spur, and the pinion could be moved inboard on the motor.

Also I was wondering if there are any belt drive options that would work here? Just for motor-to-bevel drive. You mentioned you want to keep it stock looking-ish lol. I just hope you aren't limiting yourself as far as reliability?

Hey, thanks for the input... I wondered why only that gear was worn... The guy I bought it from used a 24T gear.. it's suppose to be a 25T... I just read it on website a few minutes ago... I will give it a few more shots with the plastic gears, but I will be getting the alloy motor and center differential mount...

big greg 09.19.2009 01:13 AM

so the gear that stripped was supposed to be a 25t? if the mesh wasnt tight that would make sense why it stripped so easily

Ryu James 09.19.2009 02:11 AM

love the video aqwut! ramtech or largescale both have steel gears for the ramp. as i am sure you know. as well as the alu. gear plate and diff mount. i was surprised at how agile it seems. just looking at these 1/5s you think they would be real sluggish and clumsy but it seems the opposite. i cant wait to drive mine.

Yeah, it was suppose to be 25T meshing with a 25T (50T total) for the transfer gear and 60T total for the spur/pinion gear..

I'm liking this rampage a lot... the more I work on it, the more I start to like it.. Parts aren't too expensive Either..

I'm not too big a fan of metal on metal gearing... but for this beastly machine, I would probably get metal gearing for the transfer gear and for the Spur gear(once I find the right gearing).

I currently have 25T with 35T on there right now.. I will try 29T & 31T today.. see how much I could push the 100A ESC... ESC was barely warm with the 25/35T Gearing...

aqwut 09.19.2009 09:40 PM

This is how I will be mounting the batteries.. battery mound and tray...

I used up all the stock holes... Did not modify the chassis in any way...

I updated the battery tray...

Here's the rest of the pictures of the finished truck..

Here's a Video, it's a little DARK.. will get a day video tomorrow...
5 minutes of runtime in the front yard, and 7 minutes of runtime in the backyard..
Lipo took about 2150mAh charge... so I should get about 20 minutes with this gearing... 27/33.. and 12S1P 5000mAh...

After the run the motor was 34 Deg Celcius and the ESC was 39 Deg Celcius...

Metallover 09.19.2009 10:04 PM

Setup looks spot on! With most of the 5th scales I've seen, it was like putting a fiegao S motor and a MM in a savage. This looks more like putting a MMM in a savage! What it should be. Temps look really good too. Looking forward to more videos if they get made!
