Hey, I got it done again in the nimh charge up to 6v and then put it into Lipo balance at 5amps and the battery check passed and now its charging! The cell voltages are different between .03 and .05 volts.
EDIT: Nvm, the lipo was starting to get warm before it even hit the 5 min mark in Lipo balance charge mode so I immediatly ripped it out of the charger and have it outside on the concrete. Guess i'm screwed..... |
you may just have a bad cell. what you can do is get a VERY low power resister and wire it up on the balance lead plugs for the bad cell and charge that one cell up to 3+ volts. by the sound of it though, you may indeed have a bad cell. you just don't have very good luck in this hobby do you?

Well, I figured if nothing else, seeings how both batteries were kinda partial charged, I went ahead and plugged them up to the Flux to make sure it works out the box and lucky for me, it came to life. Now that I know for sure it works, i'll start tearing it apart tonight and begin work on "Frostbyte II" while im waiting for my other Turnigys.

If you smash up the lipo, at least save the good cell. If you go with my idea, you might be able to use it on a 3S setup for a different vehicle down the road. Thats the one think about HK, if its broken you really dont have much of a recoarse to send it back. I generally only order things that I can live without.

Wow, you just have terrible luck in the hobby Freeze.
If you can, you could always pluck one cell out, and have a plinking session with the puffed one (Springfield 9mill?) And you can save one cell, and possibly resell it? Just thinking out aloud. |
Guy at LHS said I should charge the bad Lipo at a really low rate, like .2 amp to try and bring the cells back to life and keep it from getting warm due to the cells being discharged that low. I was charging it at 1c o 5 amps when it started to get warm and he said thats really bad for Lipo's like this one that have been discharged really low, you need to charge it very low to bring it back to life.
I'm trying the very low charge and so far so good after almost an hour, puffing has decreased as well. |
Personally, that's the risk you take for buying lipos at such cheap prices. When they work, they work well. At least if they are bad, they're not expensive to replace.
I would just get another pack. Then, disassemble the bad pack and save the good cell in case a future cell goes south. |

One of the cells would still be good. If you save it and keep the deans on it then when you get the extra 2s pack, you could use it to run 5S in your truck. You would just put all the cells in series. its still a 40C 5000mah cell thats in there. There is not much risk to taking that pack apart and just pulling the bad cell off.
5S is a sweet spot for the MMM. If you gear it down to the same speed on 4S your motor and speed control will run cooler, plus you dont have to push the MMM to the limit at 6S. |

Send that bad pack to me. I'll revive it and use it my my low amp draw vehicles...

Just buy Hyperion and you wont have to worry about anything. Just get the VX or EX versions. They are more expensive but well worth it. And they fit perfect in the ERBE batt. trays, no modding/hacking needed.
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=4797 http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=5471 I personally use the EX version and they are absolutely awesome. I have never once pulled a pack out after a 15-20min race and had the pack above 110*F, and that was on a 91*F day. Oh and I charge @ 2.5c and the batts are at ambient temp after charge. My racing buddy uses the VX version and they are awesome as well. The only reason I went for the EX was my LHS has them for only $5 more. I have a brand new set of the Turnigy 2s 5000mah 40c, but I dont really want to hack my battery doors to make them fit. Worry about winning, not your lipos. Pete |
1. This thread is a month old, why bump it?
2. I sold the Lipos 3. I bash, I don't race and after paying premium for racing SMC lipos last year and having both sets crap out because they were so "picky" about being maintained, i'll never pay high prices for Lipo's again. End of discussion |
