im glad you are back at it

Ok, lets talk chassis material. Guessing the stock tvps are about 3mm - 1/8". So I am thinking something like 4mm would be good. Probably 6061 al, as it is cheap and easy to cut with the tools I have. I have read that people think 5mm is overkill, and I am inclinded to agree.

As far as tvp design, I figured I would match the profile of my 19" wb savvy chassis, and alter it to fit the battery location, and clearance it for the motor on that side. I may make cutouts to lighten it, but that is more work and I am not sure if it is really necessary. I guess when I weigh it assembled I will decide if it is needed.

Time to scour ebay for some deals...

Ok, whatcha think about this?

6061 t6 sheet, 12x24", .160 thick, so right at 4mm. About 26 bucks shipped. Sound like a deal?

Oh, and I put together the other GH bulk today, as my other XL bulletproof diff setup arrived. A bit disappointed, the bulk had to be filed/saned quite a bit where the diff bearings sit. Took about 5mins to do, but took 15 to figure out where the problem was... So to recap, improperly finished threads in one, and so machining issues on the other. Everything else on them seems to be good, we will see how they hold up to a 21" plus chassis and 1717 power.

Good deal sounds like. Do you buy materials locally or online? I've been looking for some cheap materials. Want to try making my own stuff as well.

And it's odd that you had to sand the GH bulk. I thought all the Savages shared the exact bulkhead/diff area dimensions.

the only problems i had with my bulks were that the threads for the sway bars were not tapped...
They will definitely hold up to the 1717 power. THey are awesome bulks!

The TCS Crawlers TVPs are about 5.25mm, probably a bit of an overkill. I'd say 4mm is probably ok.

I'm trying out 3.5mm carbon fiber myself.

4mm alloy would be plenty! 5mm is definitely un necessary!!! added extra weight too...

I just go to ebay, best prices i have seen so far.

The bulk was not made correctly, that is why i had to sand it.

Yeah, I was worried about the extra weight, especially since I might not cut alot of windows in the chassis.
